Dell’s new XPS 12 2-in-1 is a tablet and laptop to consider for today’s busy mama. How many devices do you have in your family’s house? It’s kind of ridiculous how many everyone in our household has – cell phones, tablets, laptops. If your house is anything like ours, the idea of a 2-in-1 may be appealing to you too. Dell’s XPS 12 is both a laptop and a tablet and it’s easily convertible between the two.
I had a chance to test out the XPS 12 and here are some pictures and some thoughts on my experience. I’ve only been checking it out for about a week so here are my initial thoughts and I’ll share in another month when I can really dig deep to let you guys know how I’m making out.
As a tablet, this is a beautiful machine. It’s so light (1.75 pounds) and the 12.5 inch 4k display is sharp and beautiful. It has something called an UltraSharp 4K UltraHD display. In plain talk: your programs and work look crisp and gorgeous on the big tablet screen.
So how does this turn into a laptop? It comes with a portable keyboard that it docks into magnetically. The Dell’s keys on the keyboard have a travel of 1.9mm – basically they feel like a regular keyboard. It’s also backlight which is much appreciated for a work-from-home Mom like myself who pushes some late nights working after the kids go to bed! Adding in the keyboard adds anadditional 1.1 pounds to the overall weight. Still very light.
Here’s a shot of it from the side – I held up a pencil to show you how slim it really is:
It’s pretty thin with the keyboard attached but if you’re looking for something even narrower, Dell is offering a slim keyboard accessory to this product.
- Battery life -the XPS 12 should last up to 10 hours on a charge.
- It comes with Windows 10
- It’s also sporting a 6th Generation Intel Core m5, which as far as processors go, is the top of the line super-speedy processor that you want running your laptop.
