3 GREAT books for when your child becomes a big brother or big sister

We're expecting our second child and like most parents we've been worried about how our two year old will adjust to this big change in our lives. He's had our complete and total adoration and undivided attention for the past two years and suddenly his whole world is going to change. We've worried that he'll be jealous, upset, sad or just forlorn about this new addition when what we want is for it to be an exciting, happy experience instead.

Since we feel books are a great way to introduce new situations to our child, I asked several friends for book recommendations and then hit the web myself to see what was out there on this topic. Here's what I came up with and three of our child's favorites, he often chooses these books from the bookshelf and asks us to read them to him again and again:

I'm a Big Brother by Joanna Cole costs $6.99. This book also comes in a big sister version called I'm a Big Sister by the same author. These books are great at capturing a child's voice and explaining what babies are like. They also share with children what they as a sibling can do with a newborn and it reassures the older sibling that his parents love him.

My New Baby by Annie Kubler costs $3.99. This book is a picture book without words so it can be told to your child differently each time you look at it, which our child loves! I really get a kick out of how many pictures in this book show the husband doing everything from changing the baby's diaper to cooking! Our son loves pulling this one off the bookshelf to look at the pictures on his own.

The New Baby by Mercer Mayer costs $3.29. This book is about a "critter" who gets a new sister and discovers how many different ways he can play with her.

All three of these books have been so great in helping prepare our child for our new baby! Our lives are now just days away from being magically changed forever and we really feel that our child is ready and excited to meet his new baby brother. All three books can be bought on Amazon.com and they are eligible for free shipping when you spend $25 or more.
