Pearl Swimwear - for Glamourous Moms
Let me recount for you a conversation I had with my 9 year old daughter, last week at the pool:DD: "Hey Mommy," (pointing boldly at a multi-tatooed mommy in a teeny bikini) "Is that bathing suit sexy or hoochie?"
ME: "Uh...Well..." I'm actually ok with the tats, but I cannot help but notice that the woman's left nipple is a millimeter from daylight. And as she bends to retrieve her toddler, I get way too much of a gander at her bum cleavage. Ew. "I do think it's a little hoochie honey. And don't point at people."
DD: "Ok but Mommy - what about her, is she Sexy?" My daughter jerks her head comically towards a haggard looking mom of twins, wearing a full skirted Lands End ensemble that is billowing all around her in the wading pool.
ME: "Well, she looks fine honey. Comfortable. Go find your friends"
DD: "But Moooom....what about..."
I'll spare you the rest of the conversation but it was more of the same. Why is this relevant? Because I think that when it comes to swimwear (or any wear for that matter) we all struggle with the same problem. Yes we want to look sexy. But we want to look nice sexy. Not sleazy (aka "hoochie" in my house) sexy. It's hard to explain that difference to a 9yo. And harder still to figure it out for yourself in a flourescent lit cubicle at a department store. No wonder swimwear makes us all so nervous. It seems like every suit you try on is either designed for a matronly grandma or Carmen Electra. What a choice!
Enter Pearl Swimwear. Designer Heather Fish is a real mom in the trenches. She knows firsthand how hard it is to look cute, without looking, well... hoochie! And as the active surfer mom of three sons, she was a little uncomfortable with the notion of being "checked out" by her son's friends. But finding a fashionable and flattering one piece suit was so difficult, she decided to design her own.
Drawing on a retro beach babe aesthetic, with a twist of mod 70's chic, Pearl Swimwear suits manage to be that most difficult blend: Sexy and Modest at the same time. I think the word is Glamorous. And there is a lesson here, at least for my curious 9 yo daughter, that there is such a thing as a woman being "good sexy".
