For Your Baby: Baby Einstein Activity Table

I have had an activity table for all my kids. I love them. They are so entertaining for babies/toddlers and they can be educational too. The activity table has been especially great for my kids when they are learning to pull themselves and stand.

They are encouraged to pull themselves up and stay standing at the table while they play. I already have the Baby Einstein Discovering Music Activity Table by Disney for my infant and can’t wait to watch her interactions with it as she grows. The Baby Einstein Activity Table even has pull off legs so that babies can play on the floor. The table helps babies learn colors, shapes, and counting to five in three languages and plays five classical melodies. The light up colors and sounds attract babies’ attention and are just fun.

You can buy the Baby Einstein Discovering Music Activity Table at Target for $39.99.

The Rockin’ Rider Pony – It sings and talks!

The sounds and mouth motions are activated by gently touching a button in his year. Rocking ponies have long been a favored toy and the Rockin’ Rider’s sounds, singing and mouth movements make it all the more fun and entertaining for your child. The pony is available in either pink or brown and features a soft and plush body, non-slip foot steps and easy to grip handles.

Giveaway: No Slippy Hair Clippy

I have been a long time fan of No Slippy Hair Clippy. I discovered them when I had my daughter, now 5, and loved them for their beautiful clips, bows and headbands and their quality. They were one of the only clips I could find that would stay in her hair. They have a velvet lined, patent pending alligator clip that keeps the clip from slipping out, it also does not break or damage hair, and is super comfortable. Best of all they are great for all different ages. No Slippy Hair Clippy offers great smaller styles as well as wrap around headbands that are both appropriately sized and gentle enough for baby, but they also have offerings for toddlers and young girls through their teens.

No Slippy Hair Clippy has recently introduced a new line, Clipettes, modern grosgrain lined no-slip hair clips.  These adorable clips come in an array grosgrain bows and ribbon prints such as multi dots, colorful stripes, animal prints, ladybugs, and more.  They have a non-slip grip that will hold securely without damaging hair. And they only start at $2.95.

Fashion Friday – The Techie Fashionista

Kallie Kindle Clutch

I have so many accessories these days. It goes far beyond my bag and shoes. With all the technology I tote

Kayley Kindle Clutch

around on a regular basis it is nice to know that there are fashionable options out there to house them. So you never have to be style free.

Let me start with my two latest acquisitions. My Kindle and my iPad. My Kindle was a Christmas present and I tend to carry it around a lot. As soon as I got I downloaded books and looked immediately for a cute case. I am LOVING the cases by Diane Von Furstenberg.

I am a big fan of her clothing and have quite a few pieces. I love the gorgeous prints her for which many of her designs are known. The Kindle clutch is no exception. There are leather and canvas versions. My favorites are the Kallie Leather Clutch and the

Burberry iPad Case

Kayley Canvas Clutch at $69 and $88 respectively.

There are more and more iPad cases on the market everyday. Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Burberry have all come out with options, but they come at a higher price. I do love the Burberry offering but at $325, the SPI Inc Animal iPad case may be a better option. Still very cute it is right now on sale at Neiman Marcus for $87.90.

With the current cold cold weather, I am getting myself a pair of these Echo Touch Gloves. Not only are they warm and cute, the index and thumb have an “e-link fabric” on them that  allows you to still be able to use the touchscreen on

Novero Bluetooth Earpiece

your iPhone, iPad, and other touch sensitive devices. They retail for $30.

With more and more states adding the hands free

Plantronics Bluetooth Earpiece

law for mobile phones, some very cute earpiece options have been introduced to the market. The Novero Fashion Headsets showcase  bluetooth devices that look like pretty necklaces.

They start at $259. The Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth earpiece featuring a filtered glass bead is a cute and more affordable option at $85.99.

Fashion Friday – Sweater Weather

It’s cold, it’s snowy and I love being bundled up in a warm cozy sweater. And while I would love nothing more than to sit by the fire under a blanket all day and read a good book… that is not what is in store for me on this blustery day. I have preschool drop-off and pick-up, errands to run, playdates to attend, karate class to transport my son to, etc. So while I want to stay cozy and bundled I am trading in my blanket for a snugly sweater. Frumpy and bulky sweaters just wont do, I need to look and feel good too. These sweaters are the perfect answer. Even their names sound comforting. I would pair any of them with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans and boots.

Willow & Clay Two Tone Blanket Sweater

This Blanket Sweater (doesn’t the name just say it all) from Willow & Clay is perfect to throw on for a chilly day. You could even belt it. Wearing a pretty black and white print blanket all day – now that is cozy!It is available at Piperlime for $84.

Un-Cabled Pullover

I am loving the color of the Un-Cabled Pullover from Anthropologie. It is a warm chunky knit wool sweater with fun wider sleevesand I really like the way the neck falls. Wear it over a tight fitting, long-sleeved layering shirt. The Un-Cabled Pullover retails for $198.

Cocoon Cozy Sweater

I think this is my favorite. The Cocoon Cozy Sweater (again, all in the name)  from Athleta for $89. I adore the versatility of the neck. It has a cocoon neck that can be worn as a shawl over the shoulders, as an over-sized cowl neck, or as a hood – so super cute!

Mix Pups – Cute Pocket-Sized Fun

My daughter just had her 4th birthday and one of her gifts was this Mix Pup set. She loves playing with them and customizing them over and over. Mix Pups are playful, cute, poseable and perfectly pocket sized. The whole point is that you can mix and match their clothes, hair style, accessories etc. One of the things I like about them was that their front and back legs and head are detachable so it makes it super easy to change the clothes. My daughter likes it because there are so many parts she can switch up on her pups.

There are 16 collector puppies available with accessory packs and fun play sets, like the Ultimate Fancy Paws Day Spa. I think there will be more Mix Pups in our future. Thinking ahead to the holidays they would make perfect stocking stuffers. Mix Pups was just nominated for a Peoples Play Award by Time To Play Magazine and they have also come out in plush stuffed animal form.

Mix Pups were provided by Jazwares for this review.

Fashion Fridays – Vintage Details

Vintage is hot this fall. And so easy to add in to your wardrobe with fun little details like faux fur, statement jewelry, lace, a-line dresses and chunky knits. It’s a great way to customize a one of a kind look. The way you combine and mix the vintage pieces in with your wardrobe can make a great and unique statement. Here are a few fabulous pieces to throw in some vintage flair to your wardrobe.

These Michael Kors “Parker” Faux Fur Clog Booties are adorable. Clog bottoms,  gold studded footbed and a faux fur cuff. This boot combines classic styling with more than one fall trend – booties and faux fur. They retail for $198 at Bloomingdales. But if you use your Bloomingdales’ card and purchase them before September 19th, you can take 25% off.

You can have a lot of fun with statement jewelry too like over-sized cocktail rings and bib necklaces. This Sequin Faux Pearl Bead Necklace looks fabulous and is available at Nordstrom for $138. Nordstrom also carries a variety of beautiful cocktail rings, like this Kate Spade “Marquee” Paillette Ring for $55.

Lace can be brought in in so many ways adding a feminine and delicate touch. I think this Hazel lace Fitted Cardigan from Piperlime for $84 is adorable and would look great paired with a great pair of jeans, distressed or skinny or cargo pants.

I had to throw in capes. I love this look to throw on top on chilly days. Anthropologie has some very cute ones. The Everything In Place Cape retails for $198.

Meeting Chef Marcela Valladolid at Sauza Tequila’s Ladies Night In Party

Last night I had the fabulous opportunity to meet Chef Marcela Valledolid, taste her wonderful cuisine and learn from her how to make several delicious margaritas all featuring Sauza Tequila. I attended a Ladies Night In event sponsored by Sauza Tequila. The recipes were really great for simple yet impressive entertaining year round. One of my favorite things I walked away with was that margaritas are not just for the summer anymore. I love making fresh margaritas in the summer when I entertain, but Chef Marcela showed us this amazing recipe for a Warm Winter Margarita. Yum!

It was so delicious and just made you feel all warm and toasty inside. I will definitely be making that a lot this winter. It was made with apple juice, dried fruit, sugar, cinnamon sticks and Sauza Silver Tequila. It is a must try when the weather gets cooler. We also tasted some terrific margaritas for the warmer weather. I really enjoyed the Citrus Cooler, made with White Wine, Limeade, Lemon-Lime Soda and Sauza Silver Tequila (recipe to follow). The delicious fresh Mexican food we sampled also showcased the fabulous flavor of Sauza Tequila. We enjoyed Tequila Lime Chicken Tacos, Tequila Lime Shrimp, Apricot Tequila Drumsticks. Just some really great and simple entertaining food. The simple recipes allow you to serve fabulous fresh and tasty food and drinks and have more time to spend with your guests.

Sauza Tequila and Chef Marcela have teamed up to equip women easy and delicious recipes for entertaining. Sauza Tequila is very affordably priced at around $15 a bottle. It is available in 3 varieties:  Gold, Silver, and Commemorativo. The taste is fresh and crisp agave. It is made from agave cooked and pressed wit in 48 hours of being harvested. You can find more of Chef Marcela’s yummy recipes in her cookbook titled Fresh Mexico: 100 Simple Recipes for True Mexican Flavor.ť She also hosts her own Food Network show, Mexican Made Easy where she showcases authentic and accessible recipes. Just like me she has a young son (5) mine is 6 who serves as her sous chef.

This morning my son flipped through her cookbook to pick out all the recipes we have to make. He also told me that Chef Marcela “is soo beautiful!”ť We can’t wait to try out the dishes from the cookbook.

You can find more information and recipes on Sauza Margaritas Facebook Page.

Get Belted: Affordable accessories to make or break a look

Accessories. They make the outfit. One of my favorites – the belt. Worn properly it finishes your outfit. It is a quick way to update or punch up an outfit. As an added bonus, the right one can really help hide that extra winter bulge. And there are so many options from style, to color, to material, to embellishments, to ways to wear one.

There’s the wide belt, the skinny belt, the chunky colorful one, the one with the dazzling buckle…  The right belt can pull your whole look together. A belt can add flair to a ho-hum outfit or complete an already fabulous one. Belts have come out of the pants and are seen draped all over the

Anthropologie's Three Beat Belt

Anthropologie's Three Beat Belt

mid-body, anywhere from below the bustline to down low around the hips. There are many ways to wear them too. Over an open cardigan thrown over a shapless shirt, slung low on tunic, defining your waist with a skinny belt, adding a splash of color to a monochromatic outfit. Just make sure your chosen belt width suits your proportions. For instance if you are a little wider in the middle don’t opt for a super skinny belt.  Likewise, if you are very narrow through the middle you might want to stay away from that extra extra wide belt.

Anthropologie has some great belts this season. I am loving their Three Beat Belt for $48. It completes so many looks so nicely. Look how cute it is paired with a dress and an open cardigan.

Another Line’s Hammered Disc Chain Belt from Nordstrom for $38 would look terrific slung low around the hips over a great pair of jeans, it comes in both silver or gold.

Forever 21's Patent Skinny Belt

Forever 21's Patent Skinny Belt

If you want to play around with belts and don’t want to do any damage to your wallet check out Forever 21′s selection. Their Patent Skinny Belt comes in great colors and are retailing for only $2.50. At that price you can get one every color. Since they are so narrow they are a great way to add bright colors to your look. And skinny belts are great for accentuating the waist.

So go on – sling it, cinch it, belt it and polish your outfit.

Pick up a few new belts and play – an easy, inexpensive way to change the look of your outfits.

A Recessionista’s 5 Ways to Update Her Fall Wardrobe

This fall it is all about layering and a new twist on 80’s fashion. Since an entire new wardrobe seems to be out of the question right now, here are a few key pieces I am looking at to mix in and update my look this fall.  I tried to keep most items under $100 except small splurges on denim and leather.

J. Crew's Silk Pleated Posy

J. Crew's Silk Pleated Posy

Ruffles. Ruffles are hot this fall and can be seen everywhere from shoes to bags to clothes. In the right top they can be a great layering piece. There are many different ways to wear ruffles. Those of us larger chested girls may wish to opt for a top with a few less ruffles. I like the “Sleeveless Cascade Ripple Top” from Ann Taylor, available in a few colors. It can be worn on its own or under a jacket or cardigan. For a dressier version, I also like the J. Crew “Silk Pleated Posy Top” for $89.50.

Anthropologie Cooling Cardigan

Anthropologie Cooling Cardigan

Open front cardigans and chunky knits. These essentials are not only cozy but very much in style this fall. Pair them with something slim, add some accessories and you are all set. The “Cooling Cardigan” from Anthropologie is the perfect layering piece. It comes in jewel toned yellow, black or taupe. Retails for $88.

Distressed denim. The ripped look is in and this trend is popping up everywhere. I had

7 For All Mankind’s 'Roxanne' Skinny Stretch Jeans
7 For All Mankind’s ‘Roxanne’ Skinny Stretch Jeans

to hit two price points with denim. For under $100, check out the “Always Skinny Destructed Jean” from Gap for $69.50 or the “Skinny Stitch Jean” from Bebe for $99. In the under $200 range, try the Paige Premium Denim ‘Laurel Canyon’ Dark Stretch Destruction for $185.00, I love the fit of Paige jeans. Or for an edgier look, I like 7 For All Mankind’s ‘Roxanne’ Skinny Stretch Jeans (Super Vintage Nakita Wash) for $198 available at Nordstrom.

Boyfriend jacket. This boxy jacket has made a return and looks great thrown over a dress or worn with leggings. Pair it with a t-shirt and pencil jeans for a stylish casual look. Try the Trouvé “Double Knit Boyfriend Blazer” from Nordstrom for $88.

Leather Motorcycle Jacket. The fitted leather motorcycle jacket is also making a comeback. A perfect go-to piece for the fall, pair it with a feminine top for a chic look. Check out the “Tall Leather Mix Biker Jacket” from TopShop for $265 or the “BB Dakota Nora Leather Jacket” from Piperlime for $215.

Ponchos are perfect for fall weather

polkadotpatchI think the poncho look is so great for fall and they are so cozy. This fall my 3 year old will be sporting one too. Polkadot Patch Boutique sells adorable fleece ponchos embellished with ric rac and pom poms and a matching tassel on the hood. They are available in many different colors and patterns.  I love the Peri Red Riding Hood Fleece Poncho in red with black adornments. So cute.

Polkadot Patch Boutique is committed to offering only unique, funky and high quality baby and children’s clothing. The ponchos retail for $44-$46.

A Recessionista Shops for Fall Boots.

Fergie Carly Fergie “Carly”

It’s gray outside and the weather is getting cooler and as I get dressed this morning my mind keeps turning to boots. Fall is right here and that means boot weather. I am addicted to boots. Every fall, I add to my collection. I own more pairs than I care to disclose. Next up on my hit list are two of this Fall’s must have boots. The bootie – so cute and functional. And the sexy, tall, over-the-knee boot. Both are so versatile and can be worn with anything from jeans to skirts, leggings and dresses.

Let’s start with the OTK Boot. There are so many options out there – brand, price range, color, style, height, material, and I could go on. You can go flat with a comfy sweater and leggings, high heeled with a mini-dress. Then there’s boot length, many designers actually go way over the knee to mid-thigh, a great look if you are tall, lean and leggy. If you’re more petite, try to stick with the OTK boot that falls over the knee, between knee and thigh.

Here are some options for the recessionista, one who is able to stick to a budget and still dress stylishly. My goal under $200 a pair.

Jessica Simpson's Clancey Jessica Simpson “Clancy”

If you are looking for a casual and comfortable OTK boot this fall, Chinese Laundry’s Trust Me boot is a great and affordable option, retailing for $99 from Nordstrom. Another option, Fergie’s Carly also available at Nordstrom for $199.95.

For a more tailored look, I like Sam Edelman’s “Mischief” boots from Bloomindales, retailing for $180 and available in Rainy Gray, Brown or Black Suede. Another nice tailored boot is Jessica Simpson’s “Clancy” which carries the riding boot style and can be cuffed down for a slightly different look. It is available

Guess "Rumala"

Guess "Rumala"

at Nordstrom and retails for $197.95.

In the higher heel category, I like the Guess “Rumala” High Heel Over-The-Knee Boots from Bloomingdales. They come in Black or Mushroom and retail for $199.  Another choice, would be Two Lips’ Over-The-Knee Boot from Victoria’s Secret for $197.

On to booties, or ankle boots, a staple in any fall wardrobe. They were big last fall and are still strong in 09. They can be worn with jeans, skirts, pants, leggings, the list goes on. And if you thought there were a lot of options in the OTK boot wait until you start exploring the bootie. Booties combine with other fall trends such studs or ruffles (which are very big this fall). You can have stiletto, platform, peep toe, cut outs, flats, etc. They come in many different fabrics and color options. You can take a simple outfit and make it pop with a fabulous bootie. It is a great accessory this fall. With so many options it is very hard to narrow the choices. My goal this time, under $150. I find Nordstrom and

Hive & Honey "Truffle"

Hive & Honey "Truffle"

Piperlime to offer a great selection in this price range.

Here are some of my favorites. First up, the Truffle by Hive & Honey. It combines the peep toe bootie with ruffles a must have this fall. And very affordable at $89 from Piperlime.

For an edgier look, you can go with the N.Y.L.A. Isabel Bootie for $109.95. It is a great look combining cutouts and studs. Another edgier option is the Fergie Thief Bootie with side cutouts, shiny patent piping, a peep toe, and snake skin embossed mid-sole retails for $139.95. Both are

Report "Kline"

Report "Kline"

available at Nordstrom.

Some great everyday booties are the Mia Seductive on Piperlime for $130, the Sofft Orlena Bootie at Nordstrom for $149.95 (I love this brand for their comfort), and the Report Kline Bootie at Nordstrom for $124.95.

There are endless fabulous options out there and these are only a few.  Did I mention I love boots?
