Imagine upgrading your cell phone, while your kids play in a adjoining child-friendly section. How great would it be to actually be able to concentrate on what the mobile specialist is saying? I attended an recent event at Best Buy Mobile and they told me that the company is trying to make their stores friendlier to families. One way is by adding play areas to their stores (which includes Best Buy Mobile and the larger Best Buy Superstores), so children can be safely occupied.
I think its a smart idea – based on my own recent cell phone upgrade experience, which frankly was a disaster. Even though I brought activities to occupy my kids, plus my father to keep an eye on them, they misbehaved and I could barely concentrate on what the customer service person was telling me about my new phone.
While the Kids Areas have only been rolled out in select Best Buy Mobiles and Best Buy Stores, the company has plans for more. Their areas feature two game systems, various toys and a T.V. playing kids movies. The company requests children ten years old and younger should have parent/guardian supervision. Which would have worked perfectly for me, because my father could have sat in the kids area with them while I upgraded my phone.
I also liked Best Buy Mobile’s range of mobile phones and accessories – they have 90 different phones from 9 carriers, and over 130 accessories. I was also pretty impressed that the Dave, Mobile Specialist (also called “Blue Shirts”) that I spoke to was able to teach me about the new mobile phone I had purchased the weekend before. Staff members get over 80 hours of training, so they really know the products carried in the store. When you purchase a mobile phone, the mobile specialists will transfer your contacts from your old phone to your new phone, at no charge.
The Best Buy Mobile website is also pretty cool. It has cool functions like the Upgrade Checker. Just enter your mobile phone number, plus your carrier’s name and it will let you know when you are due for an upgrade. It also offers trade-in estimators for mobile phones, coverage maps for different carriers, news, reviews, how-to’s, and available mobile accessories.
Best Buy gifted me with a gift card to purchase mobile accessories. The opinions expressed are my entirely my own.
