Frigidaire Friday: We’ve Gone Hi-Tech with Our New Washer & Dryer

Last week, I posted that after weeks of waiting, my Frigidaire Affinity washer and dryer finally arrived.  Since I had them in the house less than 24 hours before putting up my first post, I hadn’t had a chance to run a load yet.

I have since.  But before I tell you about my laundry doings, let me preface this by telling you a little bit about my old washer and dryer.  I had no problem with my old washer and dryer.  They were a wedding gift from my parents.  My husband and I just this week celebrated our 9 year anniversary, and the old products had held up well.

I applied to be a part of the Frigidaire Moms Super Influencer team because my stove and dishwasher were pretty much falling apart.  And I wasn’t loving my refridgerator but the new washer/dryer that was a part of the package was just an added bonus.

But I wasn’t sure what I’d say or how I would feel about the new washer/dryer as I didn’t really have any problems in the past.  How different could they be?  Now that a week has gone by, and all the laundry that comes with a family of four, I think I can leave a little more feedback.

I was working with average appliances before and now I’m living in laundry luxury.  And I’m not just talking about the pretty look.  The Frigidaire Affinity Washer and Dryer are faster and more efficient than my old washer and dryer.  Each cycle takes about 45 minutes.  It’s not a huge time saver for me with the washer, but the dryer amazes me. My old dryer took about an hour and a half to dry each load, depending on size.

Other nice perks:  these products are Energy Savers, using 30% less water than the average washer.  They also fit a lot of clothes – somehow the amount of laundry I can fit into each is much more than my old set, but the actual products aren’t taking up any additional floor space in my laundry room.  And I love the delay start function.  I recently used it on the dryer when my kids were going to bed to test it out and to have it start up once they were fully asleep.

More to come!

Frigidaire Friday: My new Washer & Dryer have finally arrived!

Out with the old

The third time is apparently the charm because on the third delivery attempt from my local appliance guys, I finally have my brand new Affinity Washer and Dryer from Frigidaire!  (First delivery try, they ordered the wrong dryer; second time the washer had broken in the box during shipping.)

They arrived Thursday morning, as I was running around getting ready for a party.  I haven’t had time to run a load yet but I’m excited to do laundry this weekend.  (You won’t hear me saying that very often!)

And they are beautiful.  I know, I know, we’re talking appliances here.  But Moms, you have to admit, isn’t the picture of the new washer below just a tad bit wonderful?

In with the new

One more and then I promise I’m done: Jennifer Garner with the Mom Bloggers

It’s such a nice photo, I had to share.  Here is a group shot of Jennifer Garner with the Mom Bloggers who attended last week’s Make Time for Snack Time event with Jennifer Garner, Frigidare and Save the Children.

From L to R: Role Mommy, Mommies with Style, I'm Not Obessed, Classy Mommy, Jennifer Garner, Cafe Mom, Mom Generations & Selfish Mom

Snack Time with Jennifer Garner & Times Square with my 6 year old

So I would have shared this sooner but my 3-year-old decided to hide my camera in a blanket under his bed for two days.  Gotta love those crazy Mom moments!

I wanted to post just a couple more photos from my amazing trip up to NYC last Friday to meet Jennifer Garner and to hear more about Snack Time with Save the Children & Frigidare.

And if you missed it and have no idea what I’m talking about, check out my post from Saturday night:  Meeting Jennifer Garner in NYC: Frigidaire & Save the Children Make Time for Snack Time

Meeting Jennifer Garner in NYC: Frigidaire & Save the Children Make Time for Snack Time

I’ve been a big fan of Jennifer Garner’s for awhile now, ever since my obsession with the tv show Alias.

I’ve followed her career and Jennifer’s always been one of my favorite celebrities as I always thought she appeared to “keep it real” and just seemed like an every day Mom.  Meeting her in person, I can now say my impressions were right – she’s just a down to earth, normal person.

So I met her via Frigidaire and their campaign with Save the Children to Make Time for Snack Time, I was one of 7 lucky bloggers who attended an event up in New York City last Friday.   Kids were invited and while I thought it was great they were encouraging to me to also bring my 3-year-old, I decided to save myself to the stress and went only with my 6-year-old.  I wanted to have some special time with Nate – it was his first time on the train and up to Manhattan.

I learned that starting yesterday, when people visit www.Frigidaire.com and join the Make Time for Snack Time campaign, Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children’s U.S. Programs.

So together along with Jennifer Garner and chef Lucina Scala Quinn, Nate and I got to make an assortment of healthy snacks.  I got some great cooking tips!

I’ll have more photos to share but I had to put up a little something about it.

I took this video in the first few minutes when everyone was introduced: Mark Shriver, Executive Director of Save the Children, actress Jennifer Garner and Lucinda Scala Quinn (Executive Food Director of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and co-host of “Everyday Food” on PBS).

Frigidaire Fridays: Let’s not forget my fab microwave

If you’ve been on Mommies with Style over the last month and a half, you may have seen me sharing about from my new kitchen on my Frigidaire Fridays features.  I’ve been talking about my dishwasher, my fridge and my stove.

(And you can see all of my reviews on my Frigidaire Moms section, by the way!)

I realized today that I haven’t yet talked about my new microwave.  I’ve definitely been remiss as this little appliance is actually a great addition to our kitchen.

For starters, it’s bigger than my old microwave.  I didn’t really think I had much of a space issue before but I’m finding I do love the depth of the new microwave from Frigidaire.

And it also has some totally handy functions that are great when you’re a busy family – like the chicken nuggets button, which somehow seems to know just how long to cook them for.  It also has a baked potato, veggies and popcorn function, all which seem to work at just the right time and temp.

Frigidaire Fridays: Dishwasher Tour from a cute 3 year old

This reminds me of that book, Everything I Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten.  Because really – he likes that, that, and that.  Who needs more from a review than this?

Read some of my other Frigidaire reviews on my Frigidaire Moms section of Mommies with Style.  Still loving my Dishwasher which runs quieter than any other appliance I’ve ever owned.

Frigidare Fridays: Food stays heated in the Warming Drawer

Here’s a cool thing I did this past weekend.  I made this French Toast Apple Bake on the recommendation of Melissa from Girlymama.  It was great!  But as I was cooking it to bring to an Easter Brunch at another family member’s house, and we had Mass to attend, I wasn’t sure how and when to make it.

I ended up making it the night before, but cooking it first thing in the morning.  When it was done, I used the awesome warming drawer at the bottom of the stove.  (Previously I had been using it for storage of cooking sheets.)

The next neat feature I plan to check out and utilize is the Delay Start.  You can program your stove to turn on and start to cook anything anywhere from 1-24 hours from the current time.

Here’s some cool eco-friendly information about my new stove too:  The newly introduced Frigidaire line just received the EPA’s prestigious 2010 Energy Star award for their “Swap and Save” Energy Star Promotion. The award recognizes Frigidaire’s commitment to smart energy management and its efforts to share the importance of energy efficiency with a wide audience.

In addition to the time-saving features you already know about, the new Frigidaire collections also save you considerable amounts of energy and water – from washers that use up to 82% less energy and 60% less water, to dishwashers that use at least 41% less energy and 40% less water than was used just 10 years ago.

Visit Frigidaire’s EcoSavings website to calculate your potential cash and energy savings by swapping out old appliances.

Frigidaire Fridays: An inside tour of my fridge

Not sure what’s up with the music getting so loud in the middle of the video but it does tone back down.  Here’s a short video tour of my Frigidaire fridge in honor of Frigidaire Fridays on Mommies with Style:

Frigidaire Fridays: The quiet hum of my dishwasher

I continue to be amazed at how fantastic our new Frigidaire dishwasher is.  If you haven’t read it, you can see why I was so excited to get a new dishwasher here.  Our last one had issues.

So I still hold that the best thing about our new dishwasher is the sound, or lack thereof, that it makes while running.  So much so that I have to either put my ear to it or check the time to see how long it’s been running.

But there are other great features that I am loving.  Little things make a huge difference.  Like this little accessory on the top shelf that holds wine glasses.  No more water and grime in my wine glasses.   I love my regular glass of Pinot Grigio so this is a feature we really appreciate:

Holds up to 3 wine glasses in an upright position while washing

Also very cool is the Smart Soil option, which detects the amount of soil in the water and adjusts accordingly to optimize wash performance:

Everything’s digital and it comes with tons of different cycle options to suit your needs.  I usually run it on a normal wash and it takes about an hour and a half.

Frigidaire Fridays: I can’t cook, but my new stove inspires me to learn.

One of the things I’m learning with this new stove is that I really just can’t cook.  My last stove was over 8 years old and was not only looking old & tired, but it underperformed by 2010 appliance standards.

My new Frigidare Freestanding Electric Range definitely means business.  I opted for an electric range as I have a weird aversion to gas.  My old electric took awhile to heat up on the range portion - as I assumed all electric ranges did.

It’s definitely not the case with this new stove.  I turn it on high and it’s on full heat within a matter of seconds.  It’s fabulous.  And it cooks like a dream.

Not to mention that the stove part is also more efficient.  I don’t know how 350 degrees isn’t just 350 degrees for every stove, but it just isn’t.

Lastly, I have yet to use but am excited to start using the keep warm drawer.  See the drawer at the bottom in the picture?  I’m currently using it for storage of pots and pans but I plan to clear it out soon to actually use it for it’s intent – which is to turn on the warming feature to keep side dishes and other dinner items warm when I need to.

Frigidaire Fridays: A video peek at my new kitchen

So I took this video back in January, just a few hours after the install guys left my house.  I had received a brand new refrigerator, dishwasher and stove with microwave from Frigidaire.

Frigidaire Fridays: A fairy tale about a Dishwasher

Stu was so very sad

Stu was so very sad

Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice – An Editor’s Note:  I was under the influence of a lot of happy people wearing sparkly dresses (vacationing in Disney and attending the Disney Social Media Moms Conference) when I wrote this review.

Once upon a time, there was a sad little dishwasher. For the sake of the story, we’ll call him Stu.

Stu was 8 years old.  Try as he might, he just couldn’t do what he was supposed to do.  Day after day, his family put dirty dishes into his racks and one very loud hour later, they still came out dirty.

His family was frustrated with his inefficiencies.  And Stu was frustrated that he just couldn’t get the job done, as any formerly virile appliance would be.

Stu frequently got stopped up (as old folks often do) and he’d often cause his family’s disposal to back up.

Ed & Curtis take Stu away

Ed & Curtis arrive

His family was disappointed, and Stu was sad because he was so very tired.  He longed to retire to a retirement community where he could claim social security, watch NCIS re-runs and wear Isotoner slippers every day.

For many years, this sad story continued:  Stu not getting the job done, dirty dishes, unhappy people.

Then one day, something magical happened.  The Frigidaire Fairies showed up.  (Their names were Ed and Curtis.)  They brought something shiny.  And pretty.  When it twirled, it sparkled.

The new dishwasher was perfect.  When it ran, it hummed so quietly, his family couldn’t hear him.  When they opened him up, they found clean dishes!

Prince Charming rides in on his (moving van) steed

The family named the new dishwasher Prince Charming.  He is a Frigidaire Professional Built-In Dishwasher.  He’s the quietest dishwasher in his class.  With the SpaceWise Organization System, his family can fit so many more dishes into one load than they ever could in Stu’s racks.

Stay tuned for more on Prince Charming’s wonderful qualities.

And in case you are wondering — just like every other fairy tale, this one has a happy ending too.  Stu ended up in the Junkyard Retirement Community where he plays bingo every Wednesday and will never again have to wash a dish.

Frigidaire Fridays: Install complete!

So the local delivery guys brought all of my Frigidaire appliances last week [In case you missed it, check out last week's post about me being a Frigidaire Mom!].  I was like a kid on Christmas morning as they installed everything and hauled away my old appliances.

Here are some side by side comparisons of my old and new appliances – check out how shiny and new all of my Frigidaire appliances are!

This is my old fridge – we moved it to the basement for extra storage:

It’s really amazing how having new stainless steel appliances just change the entire feel and face of my kitchen.  Friends have been commenting that it’s like a new room entirely without my old white appliances.  It’s true.  I can’t say how thrilled I am with my new appliances thus far.  Going forward, I’ll review each one independently completely with some videos of the new appliances in action!

And in case you missed it, some info on Frigidaire:  Frigidaire introduced more than 250 new appliances in 2009, all designed with the idea of creating more time for Moms. Standing behind its claim, Frigidaire offers a “More Me-Time Guarantee.” Moms will save a minimum of eight hours a month or their money back.

In addition, Frigidaire announced a new partnership in September with admired actress and philanthropist, Jennifer Garner.  The pair teamed up to launch the new Frigidaire line and to kick off the “Make Time for Change” campaign to support Save the Children.

Starting, January 18th, you can log  onto the Make Time for Change to play Spin & Win for a chance to win prizes including a new time-saving Frigidaire Affinity washer/dryer. Plus every day you take a spin, Frigidaire donates $1 to Save the Children as part of their $250,000 commitment to this worthy cause.

Coming Soon: Frigidaire Fridays #frigidairemoms

Let me tell you guys a little bit about my kitchen.  My husband and I bought our current house in the summer of 2001.  We were engaged and living in a tiny apartment at the time.  We bought new construction and I had no idea what to do about options.

The one and only thing I knew I wanted:  a white kitchen.   While we knew we wanted kids someday, who thinks about kids in relation to white cabinets and white appliances when they are barely engaged?  Certainly not us.

Here we are 8 1/2 years later and I’ve long been yearning for something other than white in my kitchen.  I’m sure you guys can imagine how not-white-looking my kitchen now is with two active boys.  (Not to mention that our dishwasher and stove have been falling apart for some time now.)

So I was thrilled when I was chosen by Frigidaire to be a part of their Super Influencer Team as a Test Drive Mom in 2010.

What does that even mean?  It means I’m getting a new Frigidaire fridge, dishwasher, stove/microwave and washer/dryer.

And they will all be stainless steel!  Here’s a preview of the new appliances for my kitchen.  I’m positively giddy about this:

For the next few weeks, I’ll be blogging and vlogging on Fridays to tell you about my new appliances and share photos along the way.  I intend to share them on Friday, which I’ve dubbed Frigidaire Fridays.  Check back next week for more news!
