Ju Ju Be’s BFF Diaper Bag

I’m always looking for that perfect diaper bag and I FINALLY think I’ve found it (after 6 years of parenthood!). It’s Ju Ju Be’s BFF Diaper Bag ($165). Why do I love it? Sometimes I take a stroller around, sometimes I wear the baby, and sometimes I run into the New York City and need to be ultra portable. The BFF easily handles all my modes -plus it can be a worn on your shoulder, back, clipped onto a stroller, and it has a great grippy handle (like a carpetbag).  It’s got tons of pockets and holds MUCH more than it looks like it can. While the price is a little steep, think of it this way — it’s quality and durable, plus it can function 2 different ways (as backpack and a messenger bag). Dimensions are  6 1/2” x 14” x 12”. Huggies Slip On Diapers Review & Giveaway

Skylar rockin' the Huggies Slip-onsHuggies just introduced a slip on diaper called Huggies Slip-ons– and I want to know why didn’t anyone think of this years before? My youngest child is almost 13 months and has turned from a baby into a toddler who hates to sit down for diaper changes. I’ve always been horrible at “put the diaper on the standing child”, so when I got samples from Huggies to try out, I was psyched.

Basically, it works just like a pull up, but is much more absorbent (as in — your kid can sleep in it and it won’t leak all over the place). You can also just slide it onto a child that’s lying down (there are tabs you can easily take apart to remove (or apply the diaper). We tested the Huggies Slip-ons at home (during playtime, mealtime, naptime and at night), at the park and on the road (we went up to my inlaws’ house in upstate NY) – so I feel we tried out every possible scenario a parent may have and I was really pleased how the Slip-ons performed. No leaks, no blowouts that leaked.

While I’ve used pull-up training diapers with my older children (my 3 1/2 year old still naps and sleeps in them), I know that they are work well.. to a point. They can’t handle what a regular diaper can — but the Huggies Slip-ons did. The cost is more expensive than the regular Huggies diapers I usually use, I found it was worth it to have for those times when my little guy will not lie flat for a diaper change or when we are on the go! And they were absolutely perfect for the park — it was such a relief to just be able to stand my son up and change his diaper at the park with the Slip-ons. If you’ve ever diapered a baby on your lap on in your stroller (we’ve ALL done it), the Huggies Slip-ons will make your life so much easier!

They’re designed for babies from 12 to around 36 months.

Sweet Deal: Shop Diapers.com, Get $5

Recently I went on a mini-shopping spree of some great finds on Diapers.com.  While I’m out of the diapers stage with my kids, I hit up their Summer Sale and got a great bag and some paper products (paper products!  on a diapers site!  who knew!?)

But I wanted to mention something pretty cool I noticed while there because I wish this had existed when my kids were in diapers.  Diapers.com rewards you for shopping and being loyal to them.  Here’s how it works:  Join the Diapers.com loyalty program and you will get a discount on diapers each time you purchase!  The first time, you’ll get $10 off as you’re a first time customer.  For each additional order, you’ll get $5 off a pack of diapers.  $5!  That’s a pretty sweet amount when it comes to a pack of diapers.  Oh, and did I mention that they offer free shipping on orders over $49?

They also have insanely fast shipping.  It’s 2-day shipping but I have yet to have any of my shipments take more than 24 hours and I’ve ordered a number of times now.  Pretty nifty, especially when you’re in a rush to get a new pack of diapers, eh?

Green Baby Options on Diapers.com, Plus #Giveaway for $100

Back in December, I brought you a review and giveaway on Diapers.com.  I was sharing that there is so much more to Diapers.com than, well, diapers.

This review is along the same lines.  Beyond diapers, Diapers.com has an entire Green Baby section where those of you trying to go more eco-friendly can shop conveniently for a wealth of awesome green products.  I myself went shopping for my kids and I don’t even have kids in diapers anymore!

Here’s a pict of some of the items I bought.  I’ve been wanting to try the Baby Silk Sunscreen Towelettes for ages, and I’ll be replenishing the hand sanitizer with some CleanWell and Babyganics Hand Sanitizers.

And I scored this great collection of organic snacks for my kids – clearly Cole loves everything I purchased. (His favorite are the Clif Bar Twisted Fruits)

The prices are competitive and it’s just so great to have free shipping and get it in two days on your doorstep.  Talk about convenience at its finest.

Giveaway: I have $100 Diapers.com credit to giveaway to one lucky Mommies with Style reader for you to spend on green and other baby products!  Contest ends May 9, 2011.  One winner will be selected at random and picked after that time.

Patemm Changing Pad: Makes Changing Baby Easy! #GIVEAWAY!

When my son was born I found myself changing him mostly in his pack and play. It worked great and I found it very useful. Then, way too soon, he got too big and weighed too much for me to change him there. I tried many things, but all just got dirty and messy with dirty diaper “residue”. I was always making a mess. I had a changing table upstairs, but I really needed something easy downstairs. I was stuck! That’s why I was so happy that I found Patemm changing mat. It solved my problem perfectly!

Even though I found the pad most useful at home, the Patemm Pad is a smart, stylish and practical solution to the diaper bag. It is a patented, award-winning design that makes changing your little one quick and simple when you are on the go. The round design is great for moving babies, and it serves as an all-in-one carrier for diapers, wipes, and even a change of clothes. The little pockets can accommodate all of your changing must haves.  Best of all it folds down nice and small!

There are three different collections, all with a great array of patterns and colors.

  • Laminated Cotton ($63)
  • GOTS 100% Organic Cotton ($55-$88)
  • 100% Regular Cotton ($68-$70)

One great thing about this product is that it is mom invented. I am learning fast that some of the best products out there were invented by women who saw a need for a certain item, so they just decided to make it themselves! That was the case with the Patemm changing pad.

One lucky reader will win a Patemm Changing pad in a Gender Neutral Orange Signature Circles pattern! (Winner must be a US resident) To enter, go to the Patemm Website and leave a comment telling me which collection and pattern is your favorite! A winner will be chosen on Sunday May 8th!

Extra Entries! Please leave a comment for each.

The Patemm changing pad is so versatile and useful. It would make a great shower gift for any mom to be! Good luck to all who enter!

Baby Aquaphor Healing Ointment and Gentle Shampoo and Baby Wash

Before I became a mom over 5 years ago, Aquaphor Healing Ointment by Eucerin, has been a staple in my house. I’ve used it on my dry skin and when I had my first baby in 2005 – I started buying the baby version, Baby Aquaphor. My reason is that it worked well on me, so I wanted to see if it worked on my child’s delicate parts. It actually was one of the only products that cleared up my first child’s diaper rashes. I used it all through my daughter’s infancy and beyond  (she’s 3 and still not potty trained) and our newest child (who’s 6 months old). I still use it on myself, because I have dry skin and it hydrates chapped body parts. I reached for it a few months ago when my elbows cracked because of the cold.

But I wasn’t familiar with their Gentle Wash and Shampoo. My 6 month old has been getting eczema and it seemed to be more pronounced after a nursing session, which led me to make sure all my clothes and sheets were washed an allergen and perfume -free detergent. When that didn’t stop his reaction, I had to examine what I was using to cleanse my own body. BabyCenter had recently sent me samples of Aquaphor’s healing ointment and their Gentle Wash and Shampoo, so I decided to try the Gentle Wash and Shampoo and see if that changed anything. So I switched it for my brand and it really helped my baby’s face clear up. So I started using the Gentle Wash and Shampoo on the baby and I saw even more of an improvement. The eczema is basically gone and I’m thrilled.

Aquaphor has a Mom’s Soothing Center on their site, that offers tips, tricks, and advice to get moms through their baby’s first year – go to http://Aquaphorhealing.com.  You can also find a coupon for $1 off. BabyCenter also has a great Comfort Zone Group in  BabyCenter Community, sponsored by Aquaphor, which is a place to get a some of relief from the everyday mom challenges. You can discuss fussy babies, bathing challenges (luckily kid #3 still likes the tub), teething, sleep trouble, and skin related issues.

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by BabyCenter in conjunction with the BabyCenter Blog Network. I was compensated and supplied with a 3 oz tube of Baby Aquaphor, two .35 oz tubes and an 8 oz bottle of Gentle Wash and Shampoo. As always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Chic Mama Diaper Cakes: A Great Gift For Any Mom

When it comes to preparing to have a baby, what item comes to mind that you will most definitely use the most? Well diapers of course!! Being  a new mom, I have come learn first hand how many diapers one ACTUALLY uses in one day…and boy is it alot!!! That’s why I was so excited to receive my Chic Mama Diaper cake! Not only is it super cute, but it also is extremely functional. And that is why this diaper cake makes the perfect gift to any expecting mama to be!

Chic Mama was founded by a wife and mother, who took her great diaper cakes that she gave to friends, into a successful business! What started as a business of diaper cakes has now expanded to include many other great gifts such as handbags, totes, diaper bags, baby gear and clothing. If you want to go a little fancier you can even get a towel cake made! A perfect place to shop for any expecting mama.

I received the Anthony Diaper Cake ($65) just days before giving birth to my son. And it was great because when I got home, I had everything I needed to get started in terms of diapers and baby soaps and lotions once I got home. That’s why something like this makes a great shower gift! Each cake is a little different. So what comes with the Anthony cake?

60 – 65 Pampers Swaddlers diapers size 1 (8-14 lbs)

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo (1.5 oz)

Johnson’s Baby Lotion (1 oz)

Johnson’s Baby Baby Wash (1 oz)

Johnson’s Baby Powder (1 oz)

Johnson’s Desitin Sample (1 oz)

Cream Silk Gerbera Daisy

Crinkle paper

Premium decorative ribbon and bows

Ingredient card

All ingredients make mommy’s first days home a little easier. But don’t think you HAVE to use the cake…it can certainly remain in tact and be kept as a decoration. I know it was hard for me to take it apart to use the diapers, but when you run out, you gotta use what you have!

I also tried another item from the Chic Mama site. The Demi bella Black Long Sleeved T shirt. As a matter of fact you can see how much I loved this item in my review on After The Alter. There is even a giveaway going on so you can try it yourself!

Bottom line…Chic Mama is a site that has great gifts for any expectant mother in your life. And with the holidays approaching what a great time to give these items as gifts!

I was provided with a Chic Mama diaper cake for the purposes of this review. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Diapers.com: Beyond Baby Care & a #Giveaway for $200 Gift Certificate

My youngest child has been out of diapers for over a year now so buying diapers and shopping somewhere like Diapers.com has not been on my radar. Until recently, when I received a note about participating in a campaign for Diapers.com to purchase and use the site for more than diapers.

More than diapers at Diapers.com?  I was curious to see how the site had grown since my last child potty trained and was pleasantly surprised at how much their offering had expanded since the last time I ordered.

I placed a big order for several products, none of which was diapers!  I got toys for my kids for Christmas, clothes and skin care products for my kids.  In searching for various products, I was able to find everything I was looking for.  Check out the array of Legos they offer!  (My kids are so into Legos right now, I was impressed with their selection.)

I also ordered this adorable Tea Collection Lion Double Decker Tee.  Then I was out of hand soap so I hopped over to body care and ordered several bottles of Burts Beeds Hand Soap.  Bottom line being that their offering has moved beyond diapers and their prices are competitive.  (Free shipping over $49!)

Just to give you an example the vast assortment of products you can buy for your family’s needs, check out this random assortment of products you can buy on Diapers.com:

Bravado Designs Nursing Tank - $49

Fisher Price IxL Learning System - $89.99

Basq Cucumber Tea Eye Gel - $24

3-pack of EPT Pregnancy Stick Tests - $13.99

Lego City Seaplane - $9.49

Shipping is free when your order is over $49 and no joke, my order came in a day and a half. They promise 1-2 day shipping and I placed my order late one night. It came not the next day but early the following morning; roughly 36 hours.

Giveaway: One lucky reader from Mommies with Style will win a $200 gift certificate to Diapers.com!  Comment below to enter.

This giveaway ends after Sunday, December 12th – one winner will be selected at random after that time.

Disclosure:  I was given compensated and given a credit to spend at Diapers.com to facilitate this post.

Kalencom’s Coated Double Buckle Bag and Quick Change Kit

Image and video hosting by TinyPicWith two kids in diapers, I don’t leave home without a diaper bag. So, when I needed a new diaper bag for going out with both my infant son and my 2 year old daughter, I went with Kalencom’s Coated Double Buckle Bag (around $80). I love the fun colored Giraffe Print — choose from chocolate and blue, chocolate and cream, and chocolate and pink.  The bag features 2 magnetic clips to keep the top flap closed, a large interior with 3 pockets, an adjustable shoulder strap and 3 outer pockets. Also included is a matching zippered pouch, a fold-out padded changing pad and a matching bottle bag that’s insultated. The bag is AZO free and they use no Phthalates/DEHP, DBP, or BOP in their PVC.

One thing that is a new mom must-have is Kalencom’s Quick Change Kit ($30). I love that it’s compact, super easy to clean (just wipe off) and comes with a clear plastic wipes case. It’s AZO free and Phthalates free. The length of the changing pad is long enough that my almost 3 year old daughter fits on it, as well as my infant, It’s thin enough, even when stuffed with an incredible amount of diapers, to go in your diaper bag (I usually take it with me, rather than the included changing pad in my diaper bag). Or you could throw it in your stroller basket and if it had a loop, I would hang it off my stroller handle (hint, hint). This is one product that should always be with you! Instead of lugging your diaper bag to the restroom to change your child, just pick up your baby and your Quick Change Kit!

Thank you to Kalencom for providing product samples.

Motherlove Herbal – Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Products

Image and video hosting by TinyPicMotherlove Herbal is ideal for anyone who’s pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, as well as babies. This company uses certified organic ingredients that are certified cruelty free and without preservatives, artificial fragrances and petroleum-based additives (such as mineral oil). All of their products are safe for baby’s skin. As a mama who’s now 4 weeks postpartum, I have been testing out their More Milk Plus capsules and their nipple cream.

While I was familiar with their products, I had a very positive experience testing out their More Milk Plus capsules ($23.95) — which contains their more milk plus alcohol free liquid concentrate in vegetarian capsules. This herbal formula is designed to quickly increase breast milk production (don’t use if pregnant). It contains fenugreek seed, blessed thistle, nettle, fennel seed, non-GMO soy lecithin, modified vegetable cellulose, and coconut oil. All of the herbs are Certified Organic. The capsules does not contain any milk, dairy, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or gluten.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicNext, I tested out their Nipple Cream ($9.95).  This soothing salve does not contain lanolin or vitamin E and really relieves sore, cracked nipples. The ingredients are extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, marshmallow root, and calendula.  All the ingredients are safe for baby and it doesn’t need to washed off before nursing.

Also notable is their Diaper Rash and Thrush Cream ($9.95), which is an all-natural salve for diaper rash. Contains extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, oregon grape root, myrrh, yarrow and calendula.

Thank you to Motherlove Herbal for providing product samples for review purposes.

Diaper Buds: Take these Vacuum Packed Diapers with you On-the-Go!

Image and video hosting by TinyPicEver take a trip with a baby or a toddler and have to haul a suitcase full of diapers? I’ve done that several times and have resented how much room they’ve taken up. I wish I had known about DiaperBuds! They’re individually wrapped, vacuum-packed disposable diapers — why didn’t someone think of this before!!  Just open the plastic package and it “blooms” into a regular size diaper. It’s so compact that you can actually stash it in a pocket and is perfect for trips or when you’re on the go with your child! Sizes offered are 2, 3, 4, and 5.

I was pleasantly surprised at how absorbent the diapers were. I was expecting them to be similar to a store brand, but the diapers were similar to a premium brand. While they were a little on the expensive size- a large bag of 24 diaperbuds costs $18.99, they aren’t meant to be used everyday. Use them only for travel or when you are out of the house with your child (and you don’t feel like taking a packed diaper bag).

DiaperBuds is running a trial promotion right now: Pay $1, get two DiaperBuds to try.

Thank you to DiaperBuds for providing a product sample for review purposes.

34 Weeks Pregnant: Packing for the Hospital

I’m 34 weeks pregnant with my third child and it’s time to make sure I’m ready for my third hospital stay! My first child came ten days early and I wasn’t ready, so I made it a priority to pack last week. Most of it is packed in a huge tote from Destination Maternity ($34.99), designed by Heidi Klum – unfortunately no longer available on their site. The exclusive tote bag, printed in Heidi’s hand-painted signature floral, includes items that Heidi picked herself, including: black cozy socks, a hair scrunchy–also printed in heidi’s signature floral, toothbrush/toothpaste and a congratulatory tee, awarding you with a gold medal exclaiming, ”
I did it”.  The bag also contains a hand-written letter and checklist from Heidi of what she suggests to also pack in your hospital bag.

I added to her suggestions with the following items (cause I’m not a supermodel, but a product reviewer):

  • Luna Lullaby’s Bosom Buddy Nursing Pillow – in my opinion, this is the BEST. NURSING.PILLOW EVER!
  • Hat for the baby, aden & anais muslin swaddling blanket – click here to see my recent review, outfit for baby to go home in (provided by my mother)
  • 1 bottle of Mamatini – a great-tasting, doctor-designed organic herbal tea bottled drink for nursing moms. Get free shipping on your first order with promo code SHIPFREE.
  • Gownies Hospital Gown – click here for my recent review
  • Aimee Nursing Nightgown (which I reviewed for another site 2 1/2 years ago. Such a great nursing nightgown and it’s sexy too!)
  • Sleepmask
  • Motherhood Maternity Nursing Nightgown and robe – Faux wrap style, print no longer available, but here’s a similar nightgown and robe ($24.99).
  • Fuzzy slippers
  • Binsi Labor and Birth Apparel’s Go Go Top ($38) – snaps open on the side, perfect for wearing under a hospital gown or nightgown. Click here to see my original review, from 2007.
  • Bravado Original Nursing Bra in Double Plus ($35) – I sleep in one of these every night, pregnant or not.
  • Underwear (still in larger size from Target and Motherhood Maternity) – pre-preg underwear will happen, just not yet.
  • Sensitive baby wipes (can’t stand the dry wipes they have in the hospital)
  • Changing Pad (from Ju Ju Be’s Be Light Diaper Bag, click here to read my review from last summer)
  • Sleepmask
  • Small tubes of Triple Paste and Aquaphor.
  • NUK Pacifiers and pacifier clips – click here for my recent review
  • Toiletries for me
  • Toiletries for baby – sensitive skin baby wash, washcloths,
  • Outfit for me to go home in (Sleeveless Pull Over Double Opening Nursing Tank ($16.98) from Motherhood Maternity and maternity capris – do not think you’ll be wearing pre-pregnancy clothes home from the hospital. Don’t even pack maternity jeans).
  • Small gifts for my4 1/2 year old son and 2 1/2 year old daughter

Disclosure: For this pregnancy series, thank you to Luna Lullaby for providing the Bosom Buddy, Baby Be Mine for providing the Gownies Hospital Gown, Mamatini for providing a sample of their Mamatini tea, NUK USA for providing pacifiers and a pacifier clip. Everything from Motherhood Maternity was purchased by myself, except Heidi  Klum’s Tote, which was provided by Destination Maternity. Items reviewed previously have been linked to past reviews.

Newborn Neccessities: No Change Changing Pad

After the initial shock of the cold winter months, baby Gianna has learned to love getting her diaper changed.  Changing time has turned into play time.  And given the opportunity, she’ll laugh, kick and giggle for half an hour…as long as she’s naked.  Of course I love keeping her happy and playing, but “naked time” presents me with two challenges.  The first is that I want her someplace safe; somewhere that I don’t have to stand over her watching that she doesn’t roll.  The second is that there tends to be messy accidents when the diaper is off.  The Bottom’s Up Baby Gear changing pad has solved both of these problems for me.

That is why it’s #6 on my list of Newborn Neccessities.

When used as originally intended – covering a changing pad that sits on a changing table or dresser - it’s an ingenius idea.  In my household, the way I use it makes it one of the most visited surfaces in the house.  My Bottom’s Up Baby Gear changing pad cover is covering a changing pad, but that pad sits on the floor in the middle of my family room.  I never planned on having a changing pad on the floor.

When Gianna came early, I was still waiting on my husband to paint our changing table.  As the weeks dragged on I needed a place to change the baby in the family room, so the pad that was supposed to be used on the table became a fixture on our floor.  The baby began loving her time spent on the floor on her changing pad, so lucky for my husband, that changing table never needed painting!

The patented design of the Bottom’s Up Baby Gear changing pad cover makes clean-up a breeze for all of those “naked baby” accidents, too.  The cover is constructed with two parts: the plush top half to keep baby’s head comfy and the vinyl bottom half that can quickly be wiped clean with a baby wipe or disinfectant.  These pieces zipper together so it’s easy to throw the minky top into the wash when it’s seen a little too much changing action.  The best part is that you can order a changing pad cover to match your decor.  You choose both the color of the top fabric (9 color choices) as well as the bottom vinyl half (white or brown).  If you order two tops to go with your one bottom piece, you’ll never have to wait for the laundry to be done to use your changing pad.

It’s a more efficient and less messy solution to changing diapers…and “naked baby” time!

The Bottom’s Up Baby Gear changing pad can be ordered online for $39.98.  It makes a great baby shower gift and ships already gift-wrapped, so no need to worry about the wrapping!

Kalencom Aids Oil Spill Efforts By Donating 10% of Sales in June to Animal Rescue Program

During the month of June, Kalencom, the New Orleans based diaper bag company, and its subsidiary Hadaki, will donate 10% of all sales to Audubon Nature Institute, which is coordinating the sea turtle marine mammal rehabilitation in the Gulf of Mexico. “Our company is no stranger to devastation having lost an entire warehouse as a result of Hurricane Katrina,” comments Monica Kalozdi, owner of Kalencom and Hadaki.  “We made the decision to return and rebuild our business in New Orleans because our ties to the city and state are extremely strong.  It breaks our heart to see so much of our natural resources and animal life in jeopardy as a result of the oil spill, and we hope our June program will have an impact on saving the wildlife.”

All Kalencom and Hadaki products are now free of Phthalates, AZO, DEHP, DBP, BOP and other harmful chemicals.

Consumers can support Kalencom’s efforts during June by visiting www.hadakishop.com to purchase Hadaki products and by purchasing Kalencom at any store or etailer such as www.rosenberryrooms.com and www.luvmybag.com.  For more information on Audubon Nature Institute, visit www.auduboninstitute.org.
