The Go Pillow!: A must have item for on the go travel

comfy-rest-webAnother product we brought along on our trip was the GoPillow! My son and daughter loved the Go Pillow! so much that they actually fought over whose turn it was to have it! The GoPillow! is a portable pillow that has a built-in blanket tucked away inside. My kids loved snuggling with it on the airplane (of course taking turns), since it is super soft and cozy. The portable pillow consists of an inner core of soft, pliable cushion/foam and a soft outer fabric covering.

The Go Pillow! reminds me of a cylinder type pillow that you can place your hand on up to your elbow inside to securely cradle your child while feeding them. The built-in blanket tucks neatly inside, providing easy access to pull out while on the go to allow for mother and baby privacy while out in public breast feeding.

Besides being great for snuggling and breast feeding, it also makes a fabulous nap blanket since your child can rest their head on the pillow while lying on the blanket. Additionally, it makes for a nice place to change your child’s diaper. The GoPillow! is washable (we were thrilled since we took it on the plane) and is available in pink and blue. Check out the GoPillow! where you can see pictures of the fabulous ways it can be of use!  Receive a free breastfeeding guide with every purchase-no code required.

Minimus: Don’t leave home without them

I recently went on vacation with my husband and two kids and we decided to test out a bunch of fabulous products that I will be reviewing over the next several weeks! I will be sharing my children’s and husband’s opinions as well.

The first product is one that we used over and over again and were thrilled that we had it with us. My husband was a bit skeptical about why we really needed it, but boy was he ever so thankful that we had it with us on the very first day of our 9-day vacation!

Minimus.biz is the leader in all things travel-sized and individual-sized. They stock more than 2,000 products including over 100 pre-packaged kits and gift sets. Products you couldn’t possibly imagine come traveled sized and Minimus.biz carries them all. All of their liquids and gels are TSA compliant (3.4 oz or less), which makes packing that carry-on all the easier.travelingtoddlerkit1

The Traveling with Toddlers kit holds all of the essentials you could possibly want as a parent. It contains 21 travel-size products in a zippered 10″x8″x2.5″ clear vinyl bag which makes it a breeze to find what you need at any time! The kit came in handy when the following happened on our trip:

- My son fell on pavement and scraped his elbow pretty badly. Never fear – the handy first aid kit came to our rescue. The kit contained not only bandages, but towelettes to wash the area, alcohol prep pads to cleanse the wounds, anti-biotic ointment (bacitracin) to promote healing plus more!

- My son had developed a diaper rash and needed cream. I never carry cream anymore and was thrilled to have Boudreaux’s Butt Paste in the kit which instantly gave him relief and eliminated me from having to take a trip to the store.

- My kids’ hands needed disinfecting and washing a lot as we were very active with activities everyday. Hand sanitizer and the Candy wipes came in handy often.

- My kids’ noses were always running so the pocket tissues were a huge help!

- We forgot shampoo for my kids’ baths and were thrilled to find California Baby Shampoo/Bodywash and Bubble Bath!

- The stall in the airport was out of toilet paper so the Charmin To Go was perfect!

- We had a few spills in the car and the Bounty to go Mini Roll of Paper Towels was the best!

There is so much more inside the kit as well. It even came with a small flashlight with batteries included. We were so impressed with this kit and couldn’t get over how many times it came in handy and made travel easier! We were so thankful to have it with us on our trip. It has found its new home in my car and has been great to have on the go!

We also received some travel games such as Candy Land Travel Fun On the Run and Tangoes which my kids loved playing on the plane and when we had down time. They were both the perfect size to travel with. Also, with airplane food a thing of the past, we were well-prepared on the plane with great travel friendly treats. My kids enjoyed the Squeezers Peanut Butter & Jelly combo and individually wrapped Ritz Cracker packages while my husband and I had the Wild Garden Hummus To Go and Cracked Wheat Wafers which were delicious. We all liked the Kool-Aid 2 Go packets which we just dropped in our water bottles!

With over 2,000 items and 15 categories to choose travel products from, you’ll be sure to find what you are looking for. The next time you travel or just want some simplicity for the travel sized products you tote around town the most, check out Minimus.biz – you’ll be thrilled you did!!!

Lullaboards: Simplify organization in parenting

lullabdsHaving a baby and kids means a lot of scheduling and record keeping. Losing sight of those schedules can be cause for a rausous of a child, and, often, a stressed and frustrated spouse. Over a baby’s uncalmable screams, there’s nothing more frustraing than screaming “when was she last fed?” and receive the response: “I don’t know… maybe about an hour ago? or three?”

So its really helpful to find a recording system that will work for you, your spouse and your babysitter. One system that’s working well is Lullaboards, a dry erase board that can be posted on your refrigerator. It offers space for tracking feedings, diapers, naps and milestones. We’ve found that listing these accomplishments each day, and keeping it on the refrigerator in the same spot all the time, helps to keep everyone sane, and in the know at the loudest and most stressful times. Its also been so helpful to have when calling the pediatrician with questions and preparing for a babysitter.

Lullaboards are available for tracking newborns, babies, pumping and toddlers withcolorful border options. (I’d love to see a “sickie” Lullaboard for tracking fevers and medications in the future.) They can be personalized, which I imagine is perfect for daycares and twins.

Edited to add:  Julie received a sample of Lullaboards to assist in this review.

A Cleaner Solution to Diaper Changes

It’s fair to say that diaper changing is not the most celebrated responsibility of mommyhood.  And while I’m waiting for my little one to arrive, I’m certainly keeping my eyes peeled for anything that could make the job a little less messy.  Bottom’s Up Baby Gear’s changing pad cover helps minimize the mess while also cutting back on laundry.  Solving one problem while alleviating another?  I’m sold!

nurseryWith their patented design, Bottom’s Up Baby Gear has created a changing pad cover that provides a plush upper half for baby’s comfort and a wipeable bottom half for mommy’s easy cleaning.  A typical changing pad cover needs to be tossed in the wash after every messy diaper change.  With this cover, clean-up is as simple as a quick wipe.

The high-quality, vinyl bottom is both non-absorbent and extermely durable.  By using baby wipes or disinfectant wipes, an accident during a diaper change can be resolved in seconds.  Plus there’s peace of mind knowing that your baby’s skin is always touching a clean surface.  The top portion is created with ultra-snuggly minky dot fabric offering a more soothing experience for your baby.  Each cover also comes with a matching pillow contoured to support a baby’s head and neck.

When needed, the sections can be detached by a zipper allowing for separate laundering or swapping out colors for a new look.  You can change the look of your cover to match a nursery by mixing and matching bottoms and tops.  Choose from nine color options for the minky dot (white, light blue, light yellow, light pink, dark pink, sage, dark blue, latte, and chocolate) and two vinyl selections (white and chocolate).  The cost savings of not needing multiple changing pad covers practically pays for itself.

For a cleaner way to solve a messy problem, Bottom’s Up Baby Gear’s changing pad cover can be purchased for $39.98 online.  Use coupon code baby and receive free shipping until 1/31/10.

15% off coupon code – Plush Pad for Baby

Let me start off by saying that someone should market an adult-sized “Plush Pad”, especially for us pregnant women who have trouble getting comfortable!  I’d love to have one of these to carry around.

plushpadThe Plush Pad is designed as a portable changing station but can be used for so much more – a mat for “tummy time” or an extra cushion during a nap.  With its memory foam cushion and roll-up design, it can be taken anywhere and used for just about anything.  When open, the Plush Pad measures 2 ft. by 2 ft. and offers a memory foam center surrounded by ultra-soft (and stylish) boutique fabric.  The cover is water-repellent protecting against accidents.  Simply remove the cover from the cushion (like a pillowcase) and toss it in the washer.

If you’re not familiar with it, memory foam is a remarkable material.  It is made up of billions of high-density, elastic microcushions.  When the temperature sensitive cells come in contact with a warm area of the body, they become soft and more pliable.  In cooler areas they stay firm.  The cells actually shift position and reorganize to conform to the body.  Memory foam acts as a shock absorber to help protect a baby’s head and neck.

The Plush Pad comes in 13 different fabric selections and can be purchased worldwide at select baby boutiques and online for $24.94.  Purchase a Plush Pad from the site prior to January 20, 2010, and receive 15% off when you enter coupon code MWS120 at checkout.

Dressing up the diaper bag

I know that when February rolls around I’m going to have to tuck away my clutches and purses, handbags and wristlets.  They’ll be stored in long, plastic containers under my bed and exchanged for the required accessory of all new moms - the diaper bag.  Now I’ve been told by several kid-carting ladies that a large purse would suffice, but as someone with a passion for organization I can’t wait to separate all of baby’s necessities into the countless pockets found inside diaper bags.  For its organizational convenience and carrying capacity, I was willing to sacrifice a little bit of style, but now I know better!

Over the years, bands of new moms must have united to make their voices heard and demand a more stylish way to lug around everything baby needs.  The diaper bag industry has responded with some fabulous new designs and I’m excited to carry them.  Here are three favorites that I’ll be sporting next year:

pinningtonPinnington Bags – These unique bags are designed with unexpected combinations of texture, pattern and color.  They are handmade with luxurious home decor fabric making them very durable and stylish at the same time.  When I first saw them I was immediately impressed with the pattern and color pairings – fabrics that really stood out and were so unlike most other diaper bags I had previously seen.  You can tell that a lot of attention has been paid to detail, even on the inside.  The coordinating (but of course different) fabric inside is a wipeable material that is easy to clean.  It also has several inner pockets for organization.  Pinnington Bags come in three distinct styles each with a variety of color and pattern options.  My favorite is the August Diaper Bag.  I just love the ruffles stitched in to dress up the zip closure.  Order your favorite bag by Valentine’s Day (2/14/10) and you’ll receive 30% off when you use coupon code: mommies.

timandleslie101janetimi & leslie – This collection of diaper bags is not only convertible to serve for several other functions, but it also comes with an assortment of matching accessories that all busy moms need.  The roomy bags include a removable shoulder strap, a bottle tote, stroller straps, changing pad, wristlet, and an easy access key fob.  The inside is made of a waterproof lining - a huge plus – and has several elasticized pockets so you can quickly find everything you’ve packed.  The timi & leslie diaper bag collection is designed for “the woman in every mom”.  I could easily use my Jane Bag for the office or even as a carry-on when I travel.  It has a real vintage look with the double-handle tote design and patent leather exterior; not at all what I would envision as a typical diaper bag.  timi & leslie bags can be found at retail locations nationwide.

sweet-pea-black1Amy Michelle – The “Go Tote” or all in one tote serves as a purse, work bag and diaper bag in one.  Amy Michelle’s diaper bags definitely reflect today’s styles and really look more like a purse than a diaper bag.  Unless you were pushing a stroller, I really don’t think anyone would ever guess that you had a diaper bag slung over your shoulder.  In fact, I’ve even considered switcihng to my Sweet Pea as my winter puse!  For baby – the bag includes a washable changing pad, internal and external bottle pockets, pacifier holder and attaches to a stroller.  For mom – there are credit card slots, a zippered pocket and an easy to find key ring.  Use coupon code: Poppy to receive 15% off of your purchase.  As an added bonus, up to 5% of Amy Michelle’s profit goes to The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver.

20% off at JelliBee Baby

Baby wipes are one of those products that are necessary but have always been just plain boring.  Sure, there are countless brands and you can even buy devices to warm them.  Other than that, baby wipes don’t get too interesting.  Not unless you move outside the wipes.

Designer baby wipes cases are just one more way that you can snaz up the diaper-changing process.  And JelliBee Baby offers a line of unique, handmade wipes cases and clutches.  There’s one to coordinate with almost any diaper bag!jellibee  My favorite is the Daisy Doodle pattern.  It’s simple black and white floral pattern matches all of my diaper bags and is still gender neutral.  And the bright blue stitching adds that extra little flair.

JelliBee Baby was created to “break out of the bland” of the common pastels, cartoon and animal motifs of most baby products.  They celebrate motherhood with whimsical yet practical designs.  The wipes clutches are made of durable plastic and covered in beautiful, quilted fabric topped with vinyl to make clean up that much easier.  They are designed to hold standard replacement wipes packages and come ready to use!

They also offer a variety of other unique handmade items for mom and baby.  When you’re looking for something just a little different, just a little prettier, just a little sassier than your run-of-the-mill baby gift, look no further than JelliBee Baby.

The JelliBee Baby Travel Wipes Clutches retail for $32.  Place an order by December 15th and you’ll receive 20% off when you use coupon code BeeStyle.

Baby Boodle: Diapering on the go

babyboodle1This review was written by a friend of mine named Melanie who is an OBGYN and the mother of a one year old daughter. She saw the Baby Boodle and couldn’t wait to test it out! A sample was provided by Boodlebags.

Now that I’m on the go much more often with my daughter, a portable diaper changing kit is a must. I just love having something with all the essentials to grab when we’re going out for a quick trip. That’s why the Baby Boodle is great! At 12″x8-1/2″x3″ closed, it is so small that it can fit in my pocketbook, or just looped over the handle of my stroller with the convenient wrist strap.

The Baby Boodle is an attractive wallet-style kit, which unfolds to reveal a large (26” x 12”), flannel-lined changing pad, great for the cold days of winter to come. The essentials are kept in the “wings” at the bottom. A travel-size size wipes container is secured on one side, easily accessible under 2 elastic straps. On the other side, there is another elastic strap which holds up to 3 disposable diapers, or one cloth diaper and wrap, and will also hold a couple of plastic bags for messy clothes! With its Velcro closure, it can also be opened and closed with one hand, a must for diapering on the go!

The Baby Boodle is handmade, is 100% cotton and machine washable. It comes in many whimsical, traditional and modern patterns, something for everyone! Use code MSTYLE15 to save 15% off of your order until December 31, 2009.

FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers: One Size makes initial purchases much easier

fbWhen I mentioned to my mom that I was considering using cloth this time around her mouth dropped. I think it took a good 2 minutes of shock before she let out a disgusted “why?!”

I had to explain that cloth diapering has changed a lot since I was a baby. No longer is there a need for diaper pins and services (though they are certainly still available.) There are limitless options when it comes to cloth diapering (affectionally known as CDing.) People who consider cloth now get to try out the “old fashioned” prefolds with covers, but there are also All-in-Ones, Pockets, Fitteds and One Sizes. And then there are those combined.

Actually, I really wish the selection were more limited. For someone new to CDing, learning the difference, the how-tos, the care of them all becomes overwhelming. If only someone had said to me “here, this is what you need and this is how you do it. Period.”

But, they didn’t and I sampled several as I tested the cloth waters. A lot impressed me, including FuzziBunz One Size. Their One-Size system has an adjustable elastic with buttons allowing you to adjust the length of the diaper through 8 sizes, from newborn to preschooler. (Length=the area that hugs the thighs and keeps the yuck on the inside.) Additionally, its adjustable on the waist with snaps that allow for at least 4 sizes. It also has a back pocket which holds and “insert” (included). The insert absorbs extra liquid in the diaper.

FuzziBunz have a PUL (ie waterproof) outer layer to keep the outside of the diaper dry and the inside is a soft fleece, which not only absorbs the liquid, but leaves baby feeling dry.

FuzziBunz is currently offering a rewards promotion: Consumers who buy 9 FuzziBunz® One Size Diapers (or more) receive Free Products direct from their company. Similar to a rebate – you will receive $40 in FuzziBunz® goodies from diapers, accessories and more. Click here for more rewards information.

Baby is One Month Old: Products We’re Using

mbWow. One month old. How did that happen? She’s growing and changing keeping all of us on our toes. No surprise, she’s our little princess and we’re falling to her every need.

Hats off to Diapers.com for making my life so much easier. There’s nothing as nice as ordering diapers and finding them at your doorstep before 7 am the next morning. I have enough confidence in Diapers.com that I haven’t stressed out about having only 5 diapers left yet.

Last week I received a Britax Chaperone stroller. Its made to attach to our Chaperone carseat/baby carrier and its wonderful. Its a full-size stroller with a sturdy frame, enormous and easily available basket and a simple fold. Its a bit heavier than I would have liked since I’m still working up my strength after a not-so-ideal recovery, but on the bright side, the weight of this stroller keeps it steady and ensures me baby is a lot safer than the travel system I used in the past. The wheel base is secure and much thinner than many other strollers–I’m now fitting between most aisles. The combination of the Chaperone stroller and infant seat put this travel system in its own category–its fancier and finer than most. Get a $100 rebate when you purchase both the Chaperone Stroller and the Chaperone Infant Seat before December 31. This week, you can also enter to win a Chaperone stroller and infant seat when you join Britax’s Facebook fan page and answer their wall question.

I have quite a variety in nursing bras. I’m really liking the Organic Easy Bra by Majamas. Its a tank-style bra with a crossover, which means there are no clips, buttons or snaps to attach detach. When you need to quickly feed, just cross the tank over to the outside of your breast and feed with ease. Its comfortable (no wires, no hooks, no adjustments) and really easy.  Get 10% off all nursing products (final price $24.30) when you use coupon code NursingWeek09 at Figure 8 Maternity.

Last week I tried not to gloat, but our girl is a sleeper. In fact, since she was 5 days old, there’s only been one night that she hasn’t slept through the night. I give a lot of the credit to a good swaddle. And I’ve found the best way to get a great, strong swaddle is by using a Miracle Blanket. In fact that one night that she didn’t sleep through, the Miracle Blankets were both in the washing machine. I’ve since ordered more so that that won’t happen again! Order 2 or more and everyone can take advantage of Miracle Blanket’s twin discount of 15% off.

My Baby is 2 weeks old: Products I’m using

gymbo2 weeks goes too fast. It really does. I’m trying so hard to treasure every second with little A because I can’t get enough of her babyhood. And its the little things that slip away. Like her sagging skin that’s filling out, and her itty bitty fingernails that already aren’t as itty bitty.

Tiny Love Sweet Island Dreams Mobile: We replaced the old (Symphony-in-Motion) with the new Island theme. Compared to the mobile from 6 years ago, there is now a jungle theme, one more song (totalling 4), and a nightlight. Still has those wacky animal friends (which my almost 6-year-old tells me he doesn’t remember, but he sure did love them). And, most important, it totally entertains the baby (and the big kids, too).

As much as I hoped it wouldn’t happen, I’m not yet fitting into my old clothing. That, and the fact that I need easy to breastfeed tops, took me to the mall and Ann Taylor Loft this week. SCORE! Even if you aren’t searching for breastfeeding clothes, run run run to the store (or just click over) because they have so much on sale at WAY low prices. I picked up 3 pairs of pants for less than $30. And for those of you needing easy access tops, they have dozens of styles and colors of tops with elastic necklines for really easy breastfeeding. With prices starting at $4.88. Yup.  $4.88.  (The prices are much better in store than online, so this one is worth the trip, even with the kids in tow.)

I have a lot of samples of diaper rash cream. Many natural. Some medical. Some sweet smelling, others perfume free. And while I’m quick to grab whatever is nearby when needed, I’ll tell you that my favorite is Calendula Cream by California Baby. Its scent is refreshing and light–like a sprig of mint. It goes on as a slick cream, so I don’t feel like I’m hurting her rubbing it in, but just spread it on the skin. Of course, the most important part, it seems to be keeping the red-bum away.

When A was only 4 days old, I went a little crazy at Gymboree. A friend had sent me a 20% off coupon and I knew I just had to use it, especially because I wasn’t allowed to drive (or do much of anything else, really). But I felt the urge to shop girl, so this coupon was exactly what I needed. I purchased a bunch of too-cute clothing for her, including this dress and diaper cover that she’s wearing today. Honestly, for the boys, I was pretty much a take-or-leave-it Gymbo shopper. But with a girl, I’m suddenly collecting Gymbucks. And, um, I have collected quite a few in 2 weeks!

Finally, in a previous post a Mommy with Style asked which changing pad I’m using. We’ve hardly left the house, and the little we have we haven’t had a need for a pad. But I’ll keep your question in mind and when I do find a pad I’m loving, I’ll be sure to review it.

Julie’s baby is one week old: here’s what products she’s using

peanut-shellHard to believe one week ago I already had my precious little one in my arms. Of course, it wasn’t hard to fall in love instantly. And once we arrived home, we really fell in love with some great baby products… old and new.

Not for the baby, but I recently shared that I’d be using my Lori Greiner Weekender bag for my hospital bag. Would you believe that I didn’t just fit my going home clothes, her going home clothes, 2 hospital gowns, make up, face wash, undies and a few nursing tanks? I also fit a blanket from Inspired Crib Bedding (which I shared with baby while freezing in my hospital room) and a big bathrobe? All in this little bag.

Baby Bonkie: I came home and it was FREEZING in my house. (Okay, it was 70^… hormones.) So I instantly wanted to warm her up. Without hesitation I reached for a pink Baby Bonkie. She cuddled inside and rested peacefully… and warmly. The huz agreed that it has to be one of the most comfortable looking “blanket things” he’s ever seen.   Read my review here.

It was a hand-me-down from her big brother, but this one is loving the Fisher Price Baby Papasan Bouncer just as much as he did… if not more. It stays in my bathroom so that I’m guaranteed a good shower each day. And she’s SO comfortable that I”m sure she’d love it if I moved the bouncer from room to room.

Innovative Baby Products from Prince Lionheart

lionheart-bottlesAlthough I’m planning to breastfeed, this being my 3rd child, I’m still very aware that I’ll need a number of baby bottles. And I am ever so impressed with what is now available in this area, compared to 4 years ago.

Check out this new Medical Grade Silicone Bottle by Prince Lionheart. Is it possible to be infatuated with a bottle? Because this one might have won my heart. First, its BPA-free. Second, its silicone. So, when I picked it up, expecting a hard, heavy glass or BPA-free heavy plastic, instead I was surprised by a wiggly, soft bottle.  The idea is that as the baby sucks out the milk the bottle collapses, thus leaving no room for air bubbles (and, hopefully, minimizing gas). LOVE it!

Also from Prince Lionheart, a wipes warmer for cloth wipes. I’m going to give cloth diapering a go, so why not try cloth wipes, right? I hadn’t really thought of the need for a warmer (never used a warmer in the past) but it does seem ideal to have wipes already warmed and moistened, rather than having to run to the bathroom and wait for the water to warm, all the while holding an uncomfortable and likely stinky baby. The Prince Lionheart Warmies Bamboo Cloth Wipes Warmer (which comes with 4 bamboo terry wipes but can be used with any wipable fabric) is plugged in and ready for a first change.

Note: This review was written before I gave birth. Just wanted to update it because I am already using the Warmies Bamboo Cloth Wipes Warmer. But I’m not using it quite as intended. Little A was born with a cold and is quite a spit-up queen. I was constantly rushing off to grab a washcloth and waiting and waiting for it to be warm enough to grace her face. Today, I thought of setting up the wipes warmer. It has “recipes” for natural soaps to coat the wipes. I filled it with washcloths that are all now naturally pre-soaped and warm enough that when A spits up or is sneezy, we have a comfortable clean-up. She’s in heaven. I can also see using this for sponge baths, and will likely try that this week.
