Infant seats have come a long way since my oldest was a baby and it could not get safer than the onBoard™35 infant seat featuring Air Protect™ Side Impact Technology.

Here are some features on the onBoard 35:

Rear-facing 4-35 pounds and up to 32” in height

Featuring Air Protect™ revolutionary side impact technology - LEARN MORE

Immediately reduces side impact forces through the precise release of air

Extended use from a tiny 4 to a full 35 pounds

Additional leg room for baby’s comfort

Customizable insert and low harness slots make the seat ideal for preemies and adjustable for growing babies

Carry Curve™ Handle features ergonomic design

Base Belt Lock easily secures your vehicle seat belt during installation

One Click LATCH installation system

Here’s some important information from Safety1st:

1 in 4 car crashes involving children are side impact collisions. They are by far the deadliest type of collision for children, accounting for 1 in 3 child fatalities; nearly all of which are caused by head trauma. These are frightening facts, but Safety 1sthas been by your side for 25 years providing innovative products to help protect your child from becoming a statistic. It is in this tradition that we proudly announce Air Protect™ side impact technology.

Safety 1st engineers designed Air Protect™ using next generation testing methods that simulate the most violent types of side impact crashes, those with vehicle intrusion. Using this advanced methodology, Air Protect™ was engineered to defend your child in two vital ways. During a crash, the system immediately shields your child’s head from the impact. In a second layer of defense, Air Protect™ allows air to escape from the headrest: channeling crash energy away from your child, creating more ride down time. It is this double layer of protection that makes Air Protect™ technology unique.

Love it. I know if I were putting my baby into an infant carrier today, I’d certainly want a double layer of protection. I’d want to protect my baby any extra way possible.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has been putting more warnings out there about the dangers of furniture and TV’s tipping, and harming your child. With TV’s now being so slim and light, and furniture being a little less sturdy, you’d be amazed at how easy it is for your child to pull them down on top of themselves. If your child is now walking and/or pulling themselves up than you need to do anything in your power to protect them from the dangers in your home. And what better company to trust with making your furniture and TV’s secure than KidCo?

As posted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission

A new data report (pdf) shows that between 2000 and 2010, CPSC staff received reports of 245 tip-over-related deaths involving children 8 years old and younger. More than 90 percent of the incidents involved children 5 years old and younger. In more than half of the 245 fatalities (56%), the child was crushed by the weight of the television, furniture, or appliance. The majority of these children suffered fatal injuries to the head (67%).

In addition, more than 22,000 children 8 years old and younger are treated in hospital emergency rooms every year (2008-2010) for injuries related to instability or tipover of televisions, furniture, and appliances. And like the fatalities, a majority of these injuries (56%) are to the head.

Those numbers are just scary! To help protect our children, KidCo offers all your baby proofing needs. Two great product that they offer is the anti tip furniture strap, and anti tip TV strap. These straps connect to the wall and prevent your unsturdy furniture from tipping onto your child. As the statistics suggest, this is a HUGE problem in households today, and doing whatever we can to protect our curious children is definitely worth it.

To promote child safety, KidCo is offering TWO that’s right TWO Mommies With Style readers a TV strap, AND a Furniture strap! The giveaway will run until Friday October 14th, and two winners will be chosen.

To enter, go to the KidCo website and leave a comment telling what baby proofing product you use the most.

My one beef with baby gear is often how short of a time it actually gets used. So I have a special place in my heart for gear that grows with your child or that is multipurpose. One of my latest finds is the mydlink-enabled Wireless N Network Camera (DCS-930L) from D-Link.

When you’re shopping for a baby monitor, you’re more likely to end up at Babies R’ Us than at Best Buy, but here’s why you might want to consider this wireless network camera for your nursery.

Multi-purpose. Yes, it can work as a baby video monitor, but it can also function as a nanny cam, a homework time checker, a cat-better-stay-off-the-couch watcher, a who-really-is-eating-cookies-at-night viewer, a grandparents-in-Florida-can-watch-Junior’s-birthday-party device and a security camera. Plus with the built-in microphone, you can see and hear everything that’s going on.

Plug and play. D-Link makes set-up simple with their plug-n-play technology which only requires 3 easy steps to set the camera up. No configuring routers, no complicated wires. Simple, easy and done in minutes.

View from anywhere with internet access. Your living room, your neighbor’s house, across the ocean or on your smart phone (yes, there’s an app for that). Anywhere you can access the internet, you can log on to mydlink.com, enter your username and password and view the camera’s contents. This means you can check in on your baby while doing email in the living room, watch your house while you’re on vacation, or allow faraway relatives to get a glimpse of daily life or a special event.

Wireless. No need for wires draped across the room. The camera connects wirelessly to your network so the power cord is the only one you’ll have to deal with. (It can be plugged in too if your house isn’t wired for WiFi.)

Camera Management Software. While the camera is simple and easy to use, advanced users can access some of the product’s fancier features with the included D-ViewCam management software. With this software, users can set up trigger motion detection, record directly from the camera to a local hard drive, create recording schedules or e-mail alert notifications, and add additional cameras. (Software for for Windows PCs only.)

The mydlink-enabled Wireless N Network Camera ($79) definitely costs more than a basic audio baby monitor, but it’s comparable to some of the more expensive video and audio baby monitors on the market. And it can do a whole lot more.

Visit D-Link to learn more and find an online or local retailer.

——————————————————————

Note: D-Link sent a sample of this product for review.

As a parent, it’s your job to make your baby’s world a safe place to learn and grow. Baby-proofing helps protect your child from dangerous areas in your home–and helps protect your belongings from damage. There are many products marketed to parents to baby-proof their homes, but as with most parenting issues, sometimes the most basic solutions often rely on common sense. But along with common sense it never hurts to have a brand that you can trust, and when it comes to safety items, KidCo is that brand.

A major question moms may ask themselves is how do I know what is dangerous? In order to get a clear view on what your baby might find the most interesting. You will be amazed at what catches your attention at your baby level. Keep a list of dangerous areas, and then search for items that could remedy that danger, or at least make it a little safer. Here are a few to start with.

Electrical Sockets: Cover them all with KidCo Outlet Caps, or better yet, replace them with the Universal Outlet Cover. Its spring loaded cover automatically covers outlet and prevents injury from inserting objects into the outlet. Best yet, you only need one cover no matter what style outlet you have because it works on both Standard and Decora style outlets.

Fireplace: HearthGate will help protect your baby from not only the hard hearth surface, but also from the dangerous flames when a fire is burning and the fireplace materials that could pose a chocking hazard. If you don’t want a gate to entirely surround your fireplace, keep your baby safe from falls onto the hard hearth surface with KidCo Hearth Guard. Unlike other hearth guards on the market the KidCo Hearth Guard doesn’t require the use of adhesive and therefore can be removed when not needed, with no messy adhesive residue left behind.

Cupboards/Drawers: Secure cabinet doors and drawers with childproof locks. KidCo has a number of different styles of these locks, one will surely fit your needs: Swivel Cabinet/Drawer Lock, Sliding Cabinet Lock, Adhesive Mount Cabinet/Drawer Lock, Adjustable Locking Strap (great for Lazy Susans where little fingers can get pinched merely by pushing on the door), Spring Action Lock and the Magnet Lock-the only magnet lock on the market that installs without drilling!

Stairs: More than half of all nonfatal injuries to children are from falls, according to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign. Many of these falls involve unprotected stairways. To avoid stairway falls, install safety gates at the top and bottom of open stairways and be sure to keep them fastened at all times when baby is around. Remember that only wall or hardware mounted gates should be used at the top of stairs. KidCoSafewayline is perfect for top of stair applications and the pressure mount Gateway line is great at the bottom of the stairs and as room dividers. For KidCo complete line of safety gates visit www.kidco.com.

Furniture: When babies use furniture to pull themselves up, they can pull things over. Remove wobbly tables that could tip over and fasten bookcases to the wall. Use KidCo Anti-Tip Furniture Straps to secure furniture to a wall. The Anti-Tip TV Straps are specifically used to anchor flat screen televisions to the wall or furniture. Take the sharp edges off your furniture by covering them. KidCo Soft Corner Protectors are adhesive mount and come in both clear and white, or try KidCo Foam Corner and Edge Protectors. These large, neutral colored adhesive mount cushions will do the trick in helping to soften hard sharp edges.

Doors: Doors pose several hazards. Doors can lead to areas of the home (or outdoors) that aren’t safe for your child. They can also pose a finger-pinch hazard. Additionally, an often overlooked problem exists in the doorstop. If you have the metal coil doorstop, the end cap can pose a choking hazard. You might be tempted to just remove the cap, but the metal coil can be sharp. Instead, remove the entire unit and replace it with a one piece Soft Jamb Door Stop from KidCo. Its slips right into the previously drilled hole.

KidCo offers safety items for every room of your home. The list here is not complete, so if you don’t see something you need here be sure to check out their website.

Now for some good news! KidCo is going to be giving a Mommies With Style reader a gift pack of baby proofing items! Not just one, not just two, but almost ALL of the items listed in this post will be included!

I’m a nut about using antibacterials when we’re in public and washing hands often. Which is why I can appreciate using something like the one the the American Public Health Association (APHA) and Softsoap have teamed up to promote. Using their “Get Ready” hand washing timer while kids use the Softsoap soap bumps will encourage kids to stay washing their hands for 20 seconds. A cute song plays while the timer goes off and the kids are engaged with some of the fun bottles that are decorated with characters like Dora & Spongebob.

Get a bottle of Softsoap’s Foam Works from Drugstore.com for $3.79 and don’t forget to encourage your kids to wash their hands often – especially this time of year! When you don’t have a timer handy, you can always sing. We sing the alphabet or the state song to encourage longevity at the sink.

It seems like my kids have been sick every other week lately, so I have been using my new Braun ThermoScan Thermometer with ExacTemp Technology (around $50) a lot. We love it because its accurate (I’ve been using it with my 5 year old and 3 year old), has a pre-warmed tip and even I can’t mess it up. That’s important to me because I do own lots of thermometers that I can’t work). The infrared technology in the Braun ThermoScan takes a child’s temperature in seconds (important when your 3 year old is complaining /squirming away or your 5 year old is yelling at you to leave him alone). Additionally, the ThermoScan’s unique ExacTemp technology with Guidance System confirms with a light and a beep when you have taken a proper measurement – which means I can handle working it at 2 am.

And when you have to regularly monitor your child’s temperature, the ThermoScan’s memory function keeps track, storing up to eight different results.

Thank you to Braun for proving a product sample for review purposes.

I’m one of those people who carries around hand sanitizer and tracks the flu online every year. I know, I’m one of those crazy germaphobes. But I remember sitting in my office back when I had one of those office jobsand I’d be searching on the Web to see what level of alert my state was on. So I was all over this campaign when I heard that Theraflu had a mobile app where you can track the flu right on your phone without even having to look anything up on your browser.

I downloaded the Theraflu WheresFlu iPhone mobile app(also available for other phones like the BlackBerry and Droid) and immediately did a check based on my zip code. According to WheresFlu, Erie, PA is apparently on high alert for the flu, which isn’t fun for me to see as that’s in-state (although still several hours away from where I live in the Philly burbs.) High means that over 15% off the population is affected with the flu. That’s a big amount of people!

My town is on “moderate” alert (5% of the population being affected) which actually doesn’t surprise me given the time of year and the amount of kids we’ve been noticing out sick at school lately.

If you’re an information junkie and/or germaphobe like me, check out this FREE app. You can get it online at Theraflu’s WheresFlu siteor on iTunes too for iPhone users. And of course using the application has been a reminder to me to make sure my kids are washing their hands diligently and taking extra vitamins…

This is a sponsored post through the Momtrends Blogger Outreach program for WheresFlu.
