Beautiful & Affordable Makeup from Iman Cosmetics

It was cool to see Supermodel Iman annnounce the Moms at this winter’s STRUT, the Fashion Show for Moms. So I was interested to also hear that Iman has her own line of cosmetics for women of color!

From the Iman Cosmetics website, IMAN Cosmetics is for “Women with Skin of Color”, regardless of ethnicity. Iman has three basic shade ranges: “Sand” for Olive Skin, “Clay” for Dark Olive to Light Brown Skin and “Earth” for Medium to Ebony Brown skin.

This nifty Find Your Shade tool allows women to match their skin color to the appropriate product. You can find Iman Cosmetics at various retailers including Target and Drugstore.com. Personally I love the Luxury Eyeshadow ($7.99) – the colors are great, as is the price!

Fashion Friday: Who Wears Short Shorts?

Did I manage to get the old Nair song stuck in your head with my headline? I know it’s now stuck in mine! So today’s post is inspired by the short short trend. Because honestly, who the heck can wear and pull that off other than a 14 year old who is pre-puberty?

I was on OldNavy.com today and saw several adorable looking shorts that I wish they made longer. I mean really. How cute are these prints but who could wear these without some serious wedgie pain and cellulite hanging out?

Thankfully Old Navy makes some longer cut shorts like these Old Navy Women’s Cuffed Denim Bermudas $24.94 (Use coupon code ONSAVE20 at checkout)

I personally don’t wear shorts unless they are Bermuda length. I just don’t think they are flattering on women otherwise but there are plenty of non short-short options at other stores too like these Slick Rock Bermudas from Athleta for $59.00. Available in tons of great colors too!

So what about you? Do you wear short shorts? Longer shorts? What are you wearing this spring?

{Video} A Hot Fireman, a Kitten & Some Tequila. Need I Say More?

You can’t help but laugh and totally love this latest ad from Sauza Tequila for a Limeade Margarita. If I get the recipe I will totally forward it for you guys but I had to post this vid is awesome. I’m totally going to try and make this only in my reality it will include a couple of screaming kids in lieu of the hot fireman and cute kitten.

In Love with my New Maxi Dress from American Eagle

I’m loving my new Maxi Dress from American Eagle ($39.50)! i got it recently with an internet coupon code and I could not get enough of it this weekend. Cute, right? Here I am in it. (Clearly this is me. I mean duh. There’s a roll of toliet paper in the picture and it’s a bad quality photo but you get the gist.)

And then here’s the official model photo off American Eagle’s website:

I had a 25% off coupon so keep an eye out for a good coupon online and if you like maxi dresses check this one out! I got lots of compliments on it!

Tuesday’s #BestofBeauty: Channel Your Inner Tinkerbell with PixiGlow

Let’s face it ladies, we’re not getting any younger, right? The older I get, the more I learn to appreciate a decent beauty product that makes me feel a little bit younger and a little more fun.

I totally got that “young and fun” feeling when I tried some of the products from PixiGlow. The funny thing is, had I seen these products in person first, I may have thought they were for a younger crowd but they aren’t at all! In fact, the same week I received some samples from PixiGlow, my sister came for a visit and coincidentally had an entire makeup bag full of Pixi products and she was raving about them. She wasn’t familiar with PixiGlow though, so we had a fun time looking at the new products.

The PixiGlow (from Pixi) line was inspired by Disney’s Tinker Bell and designed for busy women/moms to help them rediscover their inner glow.

My favorite has been the PixiGlow Fairy Face Palette($34); I love the 3-color blush that you see in the middle. The mix of colors is perfect and it has just a tiny bit of a sparkle to it that looks so much fun when it’s on your cheeks.

The Catching Shadows Crayon ($14) is pretty awesome too. It’s nice and small for tucking away in your purse and it’s great for touch-ups and highlights around your eyes.

And I’ve also been carrying around the Magic Tink Tint in Happy Thoughts Pink ($16) which gives you a nice shine to your lips, hoping to channel your inner Tinkerbell? Love it.

Check out the entire new PixiGlow line at PixiBeauty.com. You can also find all of these products in-store at Target.

The Shower Gift I’m Giving: How to Rock Your Baby

There were plenty of things that made me freak out when I was pregnant with my first child. One of those was reading pregnancy books. Those very things that were supposed to be sources of comfort and information turned me into a neurotic mess.

This is why I love the new release from Erin Bried — How to Rock Your Baby. This pregnancy/parenting book is full of practical, useful tips broken down into bite-sized pieces and delivered with a healthy dose of humor. Because you really do need to laugh at all the body-changing, sleep-missing, stress-inducing elements of pregnancy and parenthood. Instead of pages explaining various sleep philosophies (I need a philosophy?!), Bried’s book breaks it down and gives you step-by-step instructions on how to swaddle your baby (pg. 103), rock your baby (pg.110) and put your baby to sleep (pg. 126).

There is plenty of truly practical advice – things I never remember reading in traditional pregnancy books. Tips like:

How to recognize the signs of labor: “Have you just reorganized very drawer, cupboard and closet in the joint? Have you decided now might be a good time to reupholster your couch yourself?…If so, your delivery may be imminent.” I really could have used this one when I decided to sand down our living room bookcase at 38 weeks.

How to push: “Throw all modesty out the window. You’re about to moan and groan, flash all your parts to everyone in the room, and – hate to say it – probably poop on the delivery table.” Again, would have been helpful to know this ahead of time.

How to talk to your baby: “Follow your instincts. You’ll probably want to soften your voice and talk in a higher pitch than usual, and that’s for a good reason. Babies prefer it. Just remember to recalibrate your pitch and tone when you talk to your sweetie; otherwise you’ll annoy every adult within earshot.” I’d like to put the second half of this tip on a t-shirt and anonymously send it to a few people – you know who you are.

Plus there are lots of nitty gritty details you usually only get from a been-there-done-that mom-friend.

How to choose a name: “Check the initials. Anne Suzanne Smith might sound good to you, but in thirty years, do you really want your daughter to carry around an embroidered L.L. Bean tote that says ASS on the side?”

How to bond with your newborn: “Spend as much time together as possible…Some parents connect instantly with their pups while other parent-child pairs require a little more time to get to know each other.”

How to pump: “Any existential crisis you might have sitting still, topless and using both hands to hold two bottles to your breasts can be avoided by either buying a pumping bra or even better just hacking an old sports bra. Cut two holes in it for the flanges and voila! Hands-free pumping!”

Bried even gets crafty with tips on how to make your own baby toys, practical with how to handle unwanted advice, real with how to lose the baby weight and memorable with how to create a keepsake box and even bronze baby shoes.

Bried certainly did her research for this How to Rock Your Baby. She talked to doctors, read scientific reports and most importantly, talked to some pretty amazing moms. The book is peppered with tips, anecdotes and real-world parenting advice advice from mothers who have survived raising children. These include…

Ruth Alsop, 81-years-old: mother of Marin Alsop, the first female conductor of a major symphony orchestra

Rosemary Giunta, 54-years-old: mother of Salvatore Giunta, Medal of Honor winner

Elaine Maddow, 69-years-old: mother of Rachel Maddow, TV host and Rhodes Scholar

Christine Samuel, 59-years-old: mother of Asanta Samel, professional football player and two-time Super Bowl winner

Sunchita Tyson, 83-years-old: mother of Neil DeGrasse, world-renowned astrophysicist

Betty Horton, 102-years-old: one of the oldest mothers in America, mother of two

…and a handful of other women (including her own mom too!)

I have three kids now, but reading How to Rock Your Baby was a wonderful walk down memory lane that had me laughing and tearing up. It also had me purchasing another copy to give at an upcoming baby shower. The perfect book to inform, to educate and to take the edge off all that pregnancy stress!

Runners: What’s Better? Need Advice.

Okay runners, I need some advice. All of my life I’ve been a casual runner. I suppose you can say I’ve increased my speed in a bit in recent years but I’m still pretty slow. And I don’t go too terribly far when I do run – the most I’ve ever run is a 5-mile loop I used to do regularly when I lived in San Francisco and it took me an hour to run it each time.

Since having kids, I run a 10:30 pace and I’m usually around 3 miles most of the time. It’s pretty scary how exact my time is – I use Nike+GPS and I’m always within 10:20-10:30 for my pace. I rarely have a pace that’s different than that 10 second window. But like any aspiring runner, I want to go farther and I want to go faster.

Last weekend I ran a 5k. I really wanted to try and just push it and get it to 30 minutes. The run was hillier than I thought and I finished at 32:13 with a pace of 10:22 per mile.

So yesterday I went out on my own and decided I’d map 5k and I’d try and push myself. At mile one, Nike+ chimed in to say I was running a 9:20 mile. Mile 2 chimed in that I was at 9:40. I was dying – I had a stitch and I needed to walk. I walked a bit – not long – and I finished in 30:40. Faster than my 5k the weekend before yet I totally did not have a sense of accomplishment.

I felt like I had failed. I had walked. I went faster but I walked so the whole thing was not a “run” to me but a walk.

So runners, what do you say? Is that right? What’s more important to you? Running it all but running slowly or going faster even if it means you have to walk?

Weekend #5k – I’m Slow But I Don’t Care

So I ran a 5k over Easter Weekend. The Butterfly Run is in honor of a girl my sister went to high school with several years back.

In 1999, a drunk driver got driving on a local highway going in the wrong direction. It’s a horrible tragedy as a girl was killed as a result. The Butterfly Run is in her honor and I’ve always wanted to run it as my sister knew her and we live nearby but had never managed to make it until this year.

I managed to convince hubby to come along even though he doesn’t run much and we had a blast!!!! I really forgot how much fun it is to run with a bunch of other people. It keeps you moving and hearing everyone cheer and clap at the end is so inspirational! (There were 600 other people running too!)

Here’s a shot my Dad took of me as I was getting close to the finish: 20120410-072900.jpg

And here I am with the fam after. I ran the whole thing in 32 minutes. I’ve always wanted to do 5k in under 30 and that was my goal for the day but there were some hills and it just didn’t happen. Oh well – next time, right? It was just so fun to run and I’ve already signed up for another one next month!20120410-072930.jpg

Tuesday’s #BestofBeauty: Nars Concealer, Don’t Leave Home Without It

I was recently reading an old makeup piece on AOL and it stated that there there three beauty products a woman should not leave the house without: eyeshadow, blush and concealer. It got me focused on concealer because I tend to travel with blush, eyeshadow and lipstick but forget the concealer when I’m in a hurry and certainly wouldn’t travel with some in my purse.

But as I also tend to have bags under my eyes (who doesn’t?), I went on the hunt for a good, easily portable concealer. I came back to my good friend NARS, who makes this NARS Concealer Stick that’s perfect for tucking away in your purse and comes in ten different shades so you can find the right one for your skin tone!

Get the NARS Concealer Stick for $22.00 on Sephora.com. Order $50 worth of free product and you’ll get free shipping!
