Fashion Hits at the Oscars Last Night

Did you guys watch the Oscars last night?  It’s always fun to watch the celebrities for a night – from being entertained with lavish gowns to laughing at Billy Crystal who always delivers – the Oscars will be the talk online for days to come.

So what dress or look was your favorite?  Here were some of mine:

Penelope Cruz just looks other-worldly in this dress (Armani).  Like she’ll just float away she’s so beautiful.  Am I right?  Love the color and the classic off the shoulder look.  Her hair style was fabulous too – very old school.

Emma Stone in red (Giambattista Valli).  I saw a lot of people making fun of the bow on Twitter.  What do you guys think?  While I know I couldn’t pull off the bow, I think Emma can and I think she looked fabulous and elegant.

I heart Tina Fey.  No doubt about it, the woman makes the dress (Caroline Herrera) and not the other way around in this case.  She looks stunning in this strapless dress and I love the thin satin black belt that accentuates her waist and finishes the entire look of the dress.  I like too that while this is definitely an Oscar-worthy dress, it looks like something that any of us could wear to a black tie event.

I’d never consider wearing a white dress (Tom Ford) like this unless I had a serious tan but because she looks amazing in anything she wears, Gweneth Paltrow is elegant and beautiful in it.

Kelly Ripa in Lemon Chiffon.   (It looks white in this photo but I thought it looked more yellow on tv).  Kelly’s just one hot Mom – she’s thin, fit and would probably look good wrapped in a dish towel.  But of course she’s classy and isn’t in a dish towel and wore this fabulous gown (Caroline Herrera).

I’ve loved Michelle Williams since her Dawson’s Creek days.  She always looks great and last night was no exception.  She manages to do sexy and cute all in one look with this red gown (Louis Vutton).

So – what did you guys think?  Who looked the best?  Who looked the worst?

Fashion Friday: Colorful Handbags

Awhile back, I was watching a segment on my local NBC station.  They had a fashion expert who was walking the streets of Philadelphia looking for women holding black purses.  Nothing wrong with the black purse, right?  It’s classic, works with everything?

Except, she’d stop these women and ask them to replace their black purse with a colorful purse.  They then showed photos of these women holding their bags before and after.  The difference was amazing – a little color in a handbag can really make an outfit pop and in every single instance, the entire outfit looked better with the colorful purse than the  black one.

Since then, I’ve been collecting many purses of various colors (too many, if you ask my husband!) and I love how I can change up my daily look with just a changing of my handbag.

I recently bought this orange bag at H&M and it’s what I’m currently carrying.  Orange is in this spring!  I took it up to New York last week and I can’t tell you all how many compliments I’ve been receiving on it.  Little do most of these people know, I only spent $24.95 on it!  I also spruced up the look even more with a tiny handkerchief/scarf that I bought in-store and tied it off to the side of the bag.

Bag, H&M $24.95

Poppie Jones Bright Tongue Flap Clutch – $29.95 at DSW.com

Lemon Square Deal Handbag, $54.99 at ModCloth.com

Green Lydia Day Bag, Miss Selfridge $50.00

PG Beauty Bag, $31.50 at YesStyle.com

Love These St. Patrick’s Day T-Shirts at Target

Each year around this time, I start shopping for a few fun St. Patrick’s Day items. I have a whole lot of Irish in me and I love any excuse to get a little green around St. Patrick’s Day.

Target is one of my go-to spots for holiday-themed tees for me.  How adorable is this Lucky Charm Junior’s Tee for $12.99 at Target this year?  It’s on my list.

Or this one – the Juniors Ireland Graphic Tee, $12.99

Fashion Friday: Heels To Make a Girl Feel Sexy

For the first time in awhile, I wore a pair of high heels yesterday when I was up in Manhattan. I was wearing jeans but wanted to dress up my look so I got a new pair of navy high heels and wore them for the day.

Not only was I comfy in them all day, but I really forgot how sexy and fun a pair of nice heels can make a girl feel!  I love how sometimes that’s all it takes – a nice pair of pumps – to really dress up your look and make you feel good about yourself.

So now I’m on the hunt for a couple new pairs of heels.  Especially knowing that if I can tolerate heels all day in Manhattan, I can conquer any pair of shoes!

This is the pair I got and wore – I was looking for navy pumps in Macy’s and this was all they had.  They were so comfortable and love the price!

Karen Scott Navy Heels – $39.98 at Macys.com (Use coupon code PRES this weekend for an additional 15% off!)

Nine West also makes this Rocha Pump in over a dozen colors and patterns.  Here it is in the Natural Reptile color – nice, huh?   Select your size shoe and see what patterns are available in the Nine West Rocha Pump on Amazon with free shipping for $34+

Moms Rock: Reporting on Yesterday’s Strut, the First Every Mom Fashion Show #strutmoms

My feet are still aching from a full day up in Manhattan yesterday. I went up to attend Strut, the Fashionable Mom Show as a part New York Fashion Week. My good bloggy friends Vera & Audrey were a big part of why this event happened and they were models themselves!

In fact, I knew most of the models as most of them were real Moms and bloggers who I know! Which was what made the show so fun and successful – real moms strutting their stuff, having fun. The vibe in the room was too fun and I loved watching my friends enjoy themselves.

You just have to check out this video of the show – the Moms looked amazing!

And here’s a few photos I snapped.  It was tough to get a great shot just because of all the lighting but you can get idea of the fun everyone had.

Here’s Mom & model Iman intro’ing the models:

Fashion Friday: Red Hot Fun for Valentine’s Day

There’s been a lot of talk lately about red and how it’s a trendy color; frankly, I’m not sure it ever left being in-style or a current trend.  Bold red has always been a popular choice and what better time to celebrate it than in February for Valentine’s Day and American Heart Month.  (Did you know that Heart Disease is the #1 killer of Women?)

I also started really playing on Polyvore with gathering various products in one spot.  Here’s a collection of some cool red items for the month of February that I put together.  Which piece do you like the best?

Fashion Friday: Colorful Jewelry

Recently, I had to research a style piece for jewelry trends for the spring and summer.  The overwhelming consensus with those “in the know” with fashion trends was that colored or colorful jewelry (and bold) is going to be the trend in the coming months.

Why not get a jump start on the spring with some of these colorful pieces of jewelry?  If nothing else, the color will give you a little bright fun during an otherwise snowy or rainy day.

Drop earrings are also in!  I love the look of having dangly earrings with a simple necklace (I like to go simple earrings if my necklace is going to be bold.)  How about these Purple Emerald Drop Earrings from Banana Republic – $35 (Use coupon code BRJANUARY to receive 25% off your entire order at Banana Republic through the end of day January 28th.)

Love this Tory Burch Leather Logo Buckle Bracelet – $125 at Nordstrom.com – especially in orange!

Stella & Dot Marchesa Necklace – $178

The price is right on this Iridescent Necklace for $8.80 at Forever21.com

Long woven Bead Necklace – $99.00 on Athleta.com (but I like it as a wrap bracelet!)

Gorjana Two-Tone Triple Leather Strand Bracelet – $88.00

Fashion Friday: Stylish & Functional Workout Gear

I’ve been pretty much living at the gym lately.  (Not that it’s doing me any good.  Yet.)  Because of that, I’m needing like 5-6 different workout outfits a week and I had a lot less “cute” workout gear than I thought I did.

So I’m in the market for some new workout gear.  Here’s a few pieces I’ve been coveting online:

Flattering cut on this Horizon Tank on Athleta ($59)

Nice kelly green color on this Under Armour Women’s Get it Started Sleeveless Tee ($29.99 at Dick’s Sporting Goods)

I have had the Lucy Hatha Power Pants for a couple of years now and they’ve held up really well.  Now I have the Lucy Hatha Power Capris ($79) in my cart and it’s only a matter of time before I buy ‘em!  The price is steep but the clothes from Lucy are very high quality and made to last.  No coupon codes that I can find right now but keep an eye out for them online because they do come out with 20% off ones from time to time.

prAna Quinn Top, normally $48, on sale for $28.80 (in fact, prAna is having a big 40% off sale from January 18-25 so check it out!)

Lulumon Deep Breath Tank ($58)

Athleta Burnout Headband ($14)

Lots of good sales going right now from retailers trying to suck in the post-holiday sale crowd and it’s definitely getting harder and harder to resist!  I recently scored two awesome pairs of shoes on a trip to my local DSW (when I was supposedly there shopping only for my hubby) because I couldn’t resist the prices.

Fashion Friday: The Card Cubby ($20) – A Must Have Holiday Pick for Women

Last week, I was out shopping with my good friend Jen (and Mommies with Style writer!)  We were talking by one store when she remarked she had a $10 gift card from a few years ago that she wanted to go in and use.  I’m all, “I can’t believe you still have that gift card.  I always lose mine.”  She proceeded to show me her Card Cubby, a product that’s actually sold Debbie, by another Mommies with Style writer on her website, Shopaholics Shop.

Now I had seen the Card Cubby before online but never in person and you ladies have to believe me, you NEED this.  Because if you’re in any way like me, you may be carrying your coupons, gift cards and frequent buyer cards in something like this:

20111212-110641.jpg

Total disaster, right?  And that’s just the ones I was organized enough to put into two Ziplock bags.  I also have gift cards randomly floating around in my wallet in various hidden pockets (and they inevitably sit there and NEVER get used because I forget about them!)

Now, all of my frequent buyer cards, business cards, coupons and gift cards that were totally disorganized in my purse are sitting inside of this, the Card Cubby:

20111215-010527.jpg

I got it my Card Cubby in Lime Croc.  It’s alphabetized inside with tabs so you can easily find everything.

20111215-010537.jpg

Here I am pulling out a Children’s Place gift card from the C tab:

20111215-010550.jpg

This is truly a must-have.  It’s trendy looking, it keeps you organized and the price is right – $20.00.  Get the Card Cubby at Shopaholic’s Shop for $20.00 plus shipping (which is around $5).

Guys, this is an AWESOME and affordable gift to get her this holiday season!  Hurry and you can get it in time!

Fashion Friday: Rainbow Colored Pants

Did I lure you in with the title? I’m not actually featuring one pair of pants that has every color of the rainbow for Fashion Friday. Although I’m sure it probably exists and there’s someone out there who can pull off that look. But it’s certainly not me!

That said, colored jeans and pants with a little color are definitely in this season so I got the idea to see if I could find one pair of pants for each color of the rainbow. So without further ado, here we go.  What do you think?  Let me know at the end of the post your thoughts – which of these pants would you wear?

RED:

Morrison Vintage Courduroy Pants – $225 at ShopBop.com

ORANGE:

Vince Crop Skinny Stretch Pants – $225 at Nordstrom.com

Cheap Monday Casual Pants in Yellow - $47

Fashion Friday: Gold Jewelry

All my life, I’ve worn silver jewelry.  I remember actually disliking gold jewelry when I was in high school and then in college and beyond, I never considered accessorizing with gold.

But a couple of years ago (with some Mommies with Style influence), I started wearing gold.  I’ve been slowing building up my collection of gold jewelry and I find I go to it more than silver these days.

What about you?  Are you a gold, silver or a little bit of both kind of gal?

Here’s a few fun gold jewelry picks I’ve been coveting from around the web lately:

Hive & Honey Rope Wrap Bracelet – $34 at Piperlime.com

Tinley Road Foil Bangle Braclet – normally $20, on sale for $13.99 at Piperlime.com

Adrienne Mixed Chain Necklace from Stella & Dot – $128.00

Classic Jenna Bracelet from JCrew.com – $88.00
