Honored to Make Babble’s List of Top 50 Shopping Sites for Moms

I’m thrilled to announce that Mommies with Style has be selected by Babble as one of their Top 50 Shopping Sites for Moms for 2011.  And they even broke it down a bit more and named us #3 for “Best for Bargains,” woohoo!  I love Babble and this is a huge honor.

Here’s what they had to say about Mommies with Style:

Why we love it: This one offers a little bit of everything. From reviews of “kneekers” (they protect the knees of little crawlers) to green baby products on Diapers.com, Mommies with Style is down-to-earth and full of links to sensible things like “Coupons and Freebies.” You’ll also find lists of the latest apps that are designed to help you save both time and money. This blog is comprehensive and offers suggestions for home improvements (appliances, gadgets), entertainment picks for the whole family, gear guides, and the latest product recalls across all categories.

Excuse Me While I Do Some Cleaning

Hi Mommies with Style readers,

As you can see, I’m doing a little theme changing and cleaning on the site today.  As always, these things take longer than I think so please excuse any weirdness you see on the site over the next few days.

If I’m missing a widget or something cool you liked, please comment and let me know!

A Preview of My Red Carpet Moment

After a whirlwind 48 hours in Los Angeles, I’m back in Philadelphia and my head is just reeling with everything that went on.  I was there for a trip with Aveeno as an Aveeno Ambassador and I attended the Independent Spirit Awards.

Once I get the kids off to school, I hope to put a more coherent post together about the experience because it was amazing!  But in the meantime, here’s a shot of me on the red carpet.  (Which was actually more of a grayish-blue but hey, who’s paying attention when you have celebs like Anne Heche standing within 3 feet of you.  Which she was in this picture.)

More to come!  I was within touching distance of Anne Heche, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo and more.  Crazy.

I’m an Aveeno Ambassador, Going to LA & Hanging w/the Celebs?

So as I write this, I’m packing up for a quick but fun-filled two day trip this weekend to LA. I’m attending the Independent Spirit Awards with Aveeno, one of the sponsors of the award ceremony. I’m really excited!  There are some great actors and actresses up to win an award – Natalie Portman, Samuel Jackson, Bill Murray, Nicole Kidman and many more.  We’ll supposedly be hanging in a back room backstage!  I hope to catch a glimpse or two of somebody famous and will be sure to post any fun photos I’m able to snap.

I’m attending thanks to Recycle Bank and Aveeno, the latter having selected me along with 24 other bloggers to be Aveeno Ambassadors for the next year.  I’m excited to be traveling with my good friend Colleen of Classy Mommy and to meet up with Jodi from Mom’s Favorite Stuff.

What does all of this mean?  It means that I hope to have some fun info for you on Aveeno and green products after the weekend’s over, plus I really hope to share some great photos on my experience!  While I lived in San Francisco for awhlie, I’ve actually only been to LA a handful of times and I’ve never been to Santa Monica, where we’re staying.  I’m thrilled to be a part of all of this.

Lastly, after the event’s over, I’ll be spending a year as one of Aveeno’s Blogger Ambassadors and I’ll hopefully have some great products to share with you all.  Stay tuned!

Introducing my BlogHer sponsor: AOL Shopping #BlogHer10 #aolshopping

While I know that the majority of my readers either 1) have no idea what BlogHer is or 2) aren’t going, I’m hoping you won’t mind my posts the next week or two!  As I’ve been mentioning, I’m headed up to NYC on Thursday for BlogHer – the mecca conference for women in blogging.

It’s a whirlwind of fun – educational sessions on blogging, cocktail parties with PR types and getting a chance to chat with all the other social media Moms and women we’ve been talking with all year online.  Plus, it’s an excuse to shop for some new clothes! (Hubby’s not so happy about that one!)

I’m thrilled to be going again – last year I attended for the first time in Chicago.  I wrote about here while I was there, and here when I got home.

This year I’m honored to be sponsored by AOL Shopping.  I’ve been writing for AOL Shopping for over a year now as a Parenting Expert. The site features cool items to buy, along with a blog with recommendations for everyone (not just Moms!)

Here’s a little info about the latest they have going on their site.  I will bringing you more great info along with my posts from BlogHer:

Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic Picnic this Sat in NYC: Open to the Public

Live anywhere in the NYC vicinity?  If you do, you should check out a great event that I’m helping to co-host this Saturday, May 22nd on Randall’s Island.

Sponsored by Hebrew National, May 22nd’s Better-Than-A-Picnic event is the kick-off to a national tour of picnics that will focus on giving back to the community by focusing on a charity activity while picnic attendees can eat yummy food, ride a mechanical bull, meet a surprise celeb guest and dance to a DJ! Kids are invited!

Here’s a list of the other Mom bloggers who are involved in this event:

Isabel, Alpha Mom
Jen, Next Kid Thing
Suzanne, Mom Confessionals

Amy, Selfish Mom
Anna, Mommy Poppins

Carol, NY City Mama
Amy P., Long Island Parent Source
Kimberly, Mom in the City
Lisa, New York Chica
Kelsey, Naptime Chef
Jo-Lynne, Musings of a Housewife
Melissa, GirlyMama
Cecily K, Uppercase Woman

It should be a great shin-dig!  I’m really excited to ride what I’m dubbing the Philly party bus up to Randall’s Island with some of my favorite Philly Mom bloggers.

Last year, Jo-Lynne from Musings of a Housewife was the fabulous mastermind behind the organization of the 2009 Hebrew National Picnic with a Purpose here in Philadelphia.  It was an awesome event and I’m really looking forward to this year’s picnic up in New York.  If you live nearby at all, you should consider coming!  Visit theMotherhood’s Picnic with a Purpose page for more details or email me at whitney @ mommieswithstyle.com to RSVP.

There’s still room on the bus from Philly for anyone local who is interested.  Email me!

Disclosure: I am being compensated for helping to host this event.

Snack Time with Jennifer Garner & Times Square with my 6 year old

So I would have shared this sooner but my 3-year-old decided to hide my camera in a blanket under his bed for two days.  Gotta love those crazy Mom moments!

I wanted to post just a couple more photos from my amazing trip up to NYC last Friday to meet Jennifer Garner and to hear more about Snack Time with Save the Children & Frigidare.

And if you missed it and have no idea what I’m talking about, check out my post from Saturday night:  Meeting Jennifer Garner in NYC: Frigidaire & Save the Children Make Time for Snack Time

Introducing teen vloggers: Abbie & Sully

sullyabbieFor the past couple of years, a common question on the Mommies with Style boards – and to the blog – have been surrounding gifts for tweens and teens?

And aside from Ciaran, none of us have any tweens for kids yet.

I’ve had my own questions each holiday and birthday season – with two nephews (12 & 14) and a niece (13), I’ve often been stumped as to what to get for a gift.

I’ve gone straight to the source to get myself, and you guys, the answers.  My nephew Sully (14) and niece Abbie (13) will be joining our team of reviewers here on Mommies with Style.  They’ll be doing mostly vlogs on items that are appealing to kids their age.  I hope this helps many of you out there and if you have any feed back or suggestions, leave us a comment!

Here’s a first video from Abbie introducing herself!  Future talk show host right here:
