For Your Baby: Baby Einstein Activity Table

I have had an activity table for all my kids. I love them. They are so entertaining for babies/toddlers and they can be educational too. The activity table has been especially great for my kids when they are learning to pull themselves and stand.

They are encouraged to pull themselves up and stay standing at the table while they play. I already have the Baby Einstein Discovering Music Activity Table by Disney for my infant and can’t wait to watch her interactions with it as she grows. The Baby Einstein Activity Table even has pull off legs so that babies can play on the floor. The table helps babies learn colors, shapes, and counting to five in three languages and plays five classical melodies. The light up colors and sounds attract babies’ attention and are just fun.

You can buy the Baby Einstein Discovering Music Activity Table at Target for $39.99.

My Entire Family is Obsessed with the Ezy Roller {Video}

As you can see from the video, Cole (5) completely loves his Ezy Roller Riding Machine that Santa brought over Christmas. Beyond Cole though, I have to tell you guys, not only does Nate (8) love it, but I love it!  There are extension pieces to make it fit up to 5’5″ and it’s for ages 4+.

No pedals, no extra parts and you propel the roller around using your legs.

Order the Ezy Roller for $129.98 from Amazon with free shipping.

Tegu Mobility – As Addicting as the Blocks

Last April, I wrote about how I wanted to steal my boys’ collection of Tegu Blocks for myself.  These simple wooden magnets encourage hours of imaginative play and fun.

Tegu Blocks now makes Mobility which is a series of car packs that come with wheels, blocks and more for more endless play!  We have the Dart ($38), which comes with 10 blocks and wheels you can click into place and make various shapes.

Ages 3+ only (small magnets involved in the wheels).  Get Tegu Blocks and Magnets on the Tegu website.

The Rockin’ Rider Pony – It sings and talks!

Need any last minute gifts for your 2 year old? The Rockin’ Rider by Tek Nek Toys is an adorable ride-able play horse whose mouth moves as he sings “I’m a Little Pony” and neighs and whinnies to your child.

The sounds and mouth motions are activated by gently touching a button in his year. Rocking ponies have long been a favored toy and the Rockin’ Rider’s sounds, singing and mouth movements make it all the more fun and entertaining for your child. The pony is available in either pink or brown and features a soft and plush body, non-slip foot steps and easy to grip handles.

Check out Rockin’ Rider’s Facebook page for more information.

Hot Holiday Toy for Boys: Remote Control Dinosaur from Pottery Barn Kids

A-dorable!  That’s what I said aloud (to my cats as my house was empty as I opened this box) when I opened up a box from Pottery Barn Kids that included one of these Remote Control Dinosaurs ($59).

Geared towards kids ages 5+, these toys go to show that simple really best in so many cases!  These wooden dinosaurs are remote control and come with an easy to use remote that move the dinosaur forward, left and right.  It also has them roar and bite.

They come fully assembled and your options are a T-Rex or a Triceratops.  Get a Remote Control Dinosaur for $59 with free shipping at Pottery Barn Kids.

By the way, these dinosaurs were voted the Toy of the Year in Creative Child Magazine in 2010.  It’s easy to see why!

Razor Spark Scooter – Hot Holiday Pick for Boys {with Video}

Nate’s been asking for just a regular Razor Scooter for ages.  For whatever reason, we haven’t had a regular scooter in the house and he loves going over to his friend’s house where he gets to ride on his Razor Scooter.

So when my mother in law asked what Nate wanted, I mentioned this as a great birthday or Christmas present for him.  She gave it to him fir his birthday this past weekend and boy does he love it!  But what she actually gave him was the Razor Spark Scooter and it has the neatest add on to it – it creates sparks as they scoot!  The kids can depress a pedal in the back while scooting around and it’ll literally make huge sparks on the road/driveway as they scoot by.  My boys just LOVE this.  What boy wouldn’t?

The best deal I found online was at Walmart – Razor Spark Scooter – $49.94.  Get it in-store or order online and ship to store for free.  A fabulous gift for kids 5+!

Here’s Nate showing off how to use it:

Ride Your Way Into the Holidays (Winners Annouced)

Congratulations to our giveaway winners – Cari, Sonya and Tabitha!

———————————————————————————————————–

I love the look on my kids’ faces when they see something with wheels under the tree. Here are my picks for some great ride-on toys for every age – and 3 great giveaways in a super short contest below!

Prince Lionheart Wheely Bug – Perfect for tiny riders over the age of 1, the Prince Lionheart Wheely Bugs are just as fun to ride as they are adorable to look at. Available in 6 unisex designs, choose from a ladybug, bee, cow, mouse, tiger or pig to take for a whirl. The seat is padded, easy to clean and resistant to potential “accidents” from over-excitement. The multi-directional coaster wheels and handy handle will keep your tiny rider amused ride after ride. Safe for indoor or outdoor use. (Also available with a large seat for kids 3+.) $50 at Amazon.com

Kickboard USA Mini and Maxi scooter – These 3-wheeled scooters definitely make it on my top 10 list of must-haves. My kids were riding the Mini version before they were two years old and now at 5.5 and 4, they can zoom around corners, jump off of curbs and do a handful of other head-turning tricks. And we’ve had no major wipeouts or ER visits! The scooters are durable, stable, easy to ride, come in a ton of fun colors and are fairly compact. The Mini Kick is geared for kids 2-5 years old while the Maxi Kick is best for kids 6-11 (or up to 120 lbs.) The Mini comes with a T-bar handle while the Maxi also has the option of the pilot stick which allows for the best performance and handling.

Kickboard has also been adding to their collection of accessories for the scooters including bags, bells, lights and plush buddies. But don’t let the kids have all the fun! Kickboard USA also makes 2-wheel and 3-wheel scooters for the 11-111 crowd. I recently tried out this 2-wheeled number and had a blast zipping around the block with my kids. Now if only it had a cup holder to make my walk to Starbucks faster…. Starting at $85 at Kickboard USA and totally worth it. (Scroll down for a giveaway!)

KaZAM Balance Bike – When your tot is ready to trade up, consider skipping the training wheels and going to a balance bike first. With my first, we did training wheels and it took some time to ween him off them. With my second, I’m hoping to bypass the transition by using the KaZAM Balance bike. What sets KaZAM apart?

It took a few minutes for my son to get a hang of it, but I’m hoping this will help us bypass training wheels in a few months and go straight to a regular bike. The KaZAM seems durable and is easy to steer. I only wish the seat was a little wider. KaZAM comes in red, blue, orange, green and pink and also comes bundled with a helmet for a complete ready-to-ride package. $100 at KaZAM (Scroll down for a giveaway!)

Trek Jet 20 – When your rider is ready for a real bike, Trek makes superb, sturdy bikes that will easily last through multiple children. I’m not a particular fan of cartoon characters plastered over bikes, and I love that Trek bikes look and are made like grown-up bikes. The Jet 20 is geared for kids 6 and older depending on height and ability. It features 20″ wheels, the option of either coaster or hand breaks (one of my fav features) and cool extras like a kickstand, fenders, plates, pads. The bike has a lightweight aluminum frame that means I can hoist it up on our bike rack, and a construction that will last through everything from neighborhood rides to off-road adventures AND still be passed down to younger brothers. The Jet 20 comes in blue or green though girls may prefer the color selection of the similarly designed Mystic 20. Like all Trek bikes, the Jet 20 has a lifetime warranty. Available for $220 at Trek Bikes.

Holiday Toy Pick for Girls: Corolle Dolls

What girl wouldn’t love this ballerina doll from Corolle Dolls that’s pictured here on the right?  This Corolle Les Cheries Fashion Doll is 13″ tall and affordably priced at $25.69 with free shipping on Amazon!  (It’s currently 43% off!)

Compared to other dolls on the market, the price point makes these dolls really appealing to me.  Corolle makes both baby dolls and girl dolls and they have a wide assortment available for the baby or girl on your holiday list this season!

There’s a whole line that goes along with it too – strollers, baby carriers, clothes and more.  And again, the price point is very competitive compared to other doll manufacturer (just sayin’).

Check out the entire Corolle doll line at Amazon.

Hot Holiday Toys: LeapFrog Peek-a-Shoe Talking Octopus (Winner Announced)

WINNER! Congrats to Rondah who won the LeapFrog Peek-A-Shoe Octopus! Thanks to all who entered!

—————————————————————————–

Here’s the bad news: We’ve come to the final holiday LeapFrog giveaway. But the good news is that one of YOU will win! You’ll want to get your hands on this latest releases from LeapFrog – all 8 of your hands if you have them! The LeapFrog Peek-A-Shoe Talking Octopus is a fun, interactive, hands-on activity toy geared for kids 9 months and older.

2011 Winner of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Toy Award!

Drop the ball into Octopus’ open arm or hat and then guess which of his 5 colored feet the ball is hiding under. Encouraging words help while the child searches for the ball and celebrates when they find it. A switch on the blue collar lets you turn it on/off and control the volume (the toy also auto-shuts off after a few minutes of inactivity.) Another switch lets you choose between counting and color mode. The third central button plays fun, educational songs and instrumental music. Designed to help your child develop and reinforce motor skills, the Peek-A-Shoe Talking Octopus also teaches colors, numbers, counting and sea animals.

My 16-month-old had a blast dropping and searching for the balls, and I love how it encouraged his hand-eye coordination and searching skills. I also love that it’s a toy that my two older sons (5 and 3) like to play with him. Fun for all!

** GIVEAWAY ** Win a Peek-A-Shoe Talking Octopus of your very own! To enter, just leave a comment below telling us your favorite part of the holidays. Entries must be received by December 9th 11:59pm, PST. One winner will be picked via random.org and notified via email. Sorry, no P.O. boxes. US residents only.

—————————————————————————————————————————-

I am thrilled to be working again with LeapFrog this holiday season to bring you some sneak peaks and great giveaways of LeapFrog’s latest releases. Today we’re starting with their hottest new item for the holidays: the LeapPad.

Just like you want an iPad, your kids are going to want to get their hands on a LeapPad. Even better, I have one to giveaway to one lucky MWS reader! Read on…

The LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet is the newest all-in-one device from LeapFrog. You can play games, draw pictures, read books, hear stories, watch videos and even take your own pictures or movies! My boys have been fans of the Tag Readers and the Leapster Explorer, but the new LeapPad offers the best variety of activities. Here are just a few of the reasons you’ll love the LeapPad.

Variety. Numbers, letters, shapes, words, adding, subtracting, comparing, problem-solving, time, coloring, drawing, measuring, logic, reasoning, patterns, charts, phonics, geography, foreign languages. What can’t you learn on the LeapPad? With a library of over 100 games, ebooks, apps, videos and flashcards, the LeapPad provides an endless supply of learning opportunities.

Durable. LeapFrog makes stuff for kids, and they know how kids treat things. Keep teaching your kids to be careful, but know that the LeapPad comes with a sturdy, yet sleek, outer shell, a scratch resistant screen and 2 stylus pens (though you can use your finger too).

Compatible. One of the big complaints about LeapFrog products in the past is that they kept coming out with great products! Well, that wasn’t the problem as much (Apple seems to have survived this flaw), but that the games you’d buy for one game couldn’t transfer to the new device LeapFrog was coming out with. They heard the complaints and adjusted, and the new LeapPad is compatible with all the Leapster Explorer games – and vice versa. Already own Leapster Explorer games? They’ll work on the new LeapPad. And if you buy games of the LeapPad, you can load them on your Explorer too.

Adaptable. My oldest boys are close enough in age that we have few toys that are clearly for one child or the other, but they are not at the same level academically. With the LeapPad (and many of the the LeapFrog products), you can create different log-ins for each child and set the games for each child’s level. So both my boys can help WALL-E sort trash or explore the ocean floor with Dory on the Pixar Pals game, but can answer questions and do activities set to their specific level.

Snap & Record. While previous LeapFrog products had cameras as an add-on device, the LeapPad comes with a camera and a video recorder built-in. These are fun just by themselves, but add in a few apps like Story Studio which allows you to create your own story and record it or Photo Studio where a simple photo can be stamped or drawn on to create unique final products and the fun is endless. Parents can even share their kid’s creations via Facebook or email.

Follow. I think a lot of parents may not utilize LeapFrog’s Learning Path software, but I highly recommend it. You download it onto your computer and then whenever you plug in your child’s LeapPad to update it, download new games, etc, it will track your child’s progress. Learning Path can show you which activities your child spends the most time on and which they never play, which kinds of questions they get right and which they struggle with, which skills they are learning and which they need work on. I love that while my son is enjoying playing games, reading books and doing activities on the LeapPad, I can get an individual look at different academic skills he’s developing or struggling with.

What’s in the box?

LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet (with 2GB Storage)

Built-in Camera & Video Recorder

Pet Writing App

Story Studio App*

Art Studio App*

Free App Download*

USB Cable

LeapFrog Connect CD & Quickstart Guide

Extra stylus with tether

2 App Center Download Cards (value of $40 total)

1-year limited warranty

*To download these apps you must install the LeapFrog Connect Application and complete registration.

LeapFrog also sent along two of their new games – Disney Pixar Pals and Pet Pals 2. Pixar Pals has games with the characters of WALL-E, Toy Story and Finding Nemo. My 5-year-old has been loving learning about recycling and the environment with WALL-E while my 3.5-year-old is more enamored with washing, feeding and caring for his pet dog on Pet Pals 2. He thinks he’s playing with a cute computerized puppy; I know he’s learning how to count, add and subtract.

The Less Than Great. I’ve always been impressed with LeapFrog’s products, but the LeapPad truly is my favorite to-date. The two things I’m less than thrilled about are  the battery life and the price of the game cartridges. The LeapPad requires 4 AA batteries and it eats through them pretty fast. You can purchase a separate AC adapter if you know you’ll be using it at home a lot, but since we always bring these in the car on long trips, the battery life can become an issue. As for buying additional content, most of the apps you can download about $5-$10, but the game cartridges are $24.99. My kids aren’t into true video games yet, so maybe this is cheap in comparison, but this was higher than I was hoping for.

The LeapPad retails for $99 and you can buy it individually at places like Amazon, but I recommend buying one of the bundles through LeapFrog.com. You’re going to want additional games and activities and the LeapFrog’s Store offers a number of different money-saving bundles to suit your needs – Reading & Writing, Reading & Math, Ultimate Boys Bundle, and bundles with $40 in app downloads. Definitely worth it.

Hot Holiday Pick: Cabbage Patch Kids Are Back! I Love It!

If you’re a Mom and you don’t remember the Cabbage Patch Kids from when we were kids, you’re either insanely young or lived under a rock while your parents blocked you from all bits of 80s culture.  I still remember the mad rush it was that holiday season to try and buy one.  (Remember when you couldn’t order on the Internet and our Moms had to stand in long lines to get something off the shelf of a store before the store sold out?  Those were the days!)

Now Cabbage Patch Kids are back and they are the a hot pick for little girls for the holiday season!

And you can get them on the Internet!  (My kind of shopping)  You can get Cabbage Patch Kids on Amazon for a range of prices depending on the doll you choose. ($14.77 and up)

5 Year Old Boy Birthday Wish List: Legos, Sqwishland & More

Yesterday, Cole and I headed over to our local Learning Express toy store.  They were having a huge Columbus day store-wide sale, and it’s also getting close to Cole’s 5th birthday.  Each year we go to Learning Express and make a “birthday bucket” which is basically like a kid’s wish list of toys they want to get.

We do it for family & friends who might ask what Cole wants but have no idea what to get him.  Plus, I get a discount on the items in the bucket after his birthday is over so it’s a win-win since Christmas follows shortly after his birthday.  And I like that it gives me a little bit of insight into some toys I wouldn’t have normally thought to pick out for him.

So.  Looking for ideas for a 5 year old boy?   Here are some ideas straight from the source:

Sqwishland SqwishLanders (not to be confused with Squinkies.  Oh, I know.)  These are at least cheaper than their counterparts.  These little rubber animals come in small balls.  The SqwishLander itself has a small hole on its stomach so you can decorate with the SqwishLander – Cole added a “bracelet” to his bucket where you can change and swap out SqwishLanders and wear them.  A tube of 6 Sqwishland animals is $4.99.  (Great stocking stuffer!)

He continues to love Lego Ninjago products.  The Lego sets themselves are for 7+ so I had to steer him clear of putting any of those in his bucket (will save those for his big brother!) but the little figures are great for when the kids pretend to have battles.  It’s about $8-10 for a Lego Ninjago figure – you can get a variety of them on Amazon.

And I was glad when he added this Honeybee Tree from International Playthings ($14.47 on Amazon) because it seemed very age appropriate. (Having an older brother he only wants to play with older toys so much of the time!)  A friend of ours has this and it’s a cute game.  Kids pull out the leaves and try not to release the bees into the bottom of the tree.

He was very excited about this Lightsaber Room Light ($29.99).  It attaches to the wall and with a remote, it changes colors.

Lastly, no stranger to Legos since his brother is obsessed, Cole selected some items from the Lego City line.  I had to steer him towards the age appropriate ones.  The key with the Legos is to see what the Lego piece count is.  Lego City is a great line for kids starting out with the smaller legos as they have several sets that are 5+.  We picked a few sets for him that were between the 200-300 piece range.

Shoulder Buddies: The Tiny Toy my Kids Love

It’s never too early to find a great stocking stuffer and I’m picking this one for a top stocking stuffer choice for the 2011 Holiday season!

I first hear about Shoulder Buddies at BlogHer, where I got a sample Shoulder Buddies to bring home to my kids along with some other toys.  This little toy didn’t seem like much to me.  It reminded me of those Trolls people used to collect when I was a kid.  But I didn’t realize what it did until Cole (4) showed me.

Shoulder Buddies come with a half-dollar coin-sized magnetized disc that the Shoulder Buddy sits on.  The kid puts the disc under their shirt on their shoulder and then the Shoulder Pal sticks and stays on the child’s shoulder as he walks around.  Cole gets a huge kick out of walking around with his Pal and it makes anyone smile who sees it!

You can pick up a Shoulder Buddy at your local Hallmark or other store.  Use the Shoulder Buddy Store Locator to find them at a store near you.  I recently saw them at the Philadelphia Airport!  You can also buy them at the Shoulder Buddy Online Store for $5.99 each.
