Did you think you found the perfect bag... only to find its one pocket short? Or you love the organization, but not the look? Then its time to get Wicked!
Wicked Stitch Designs, that is. Wicked Stitch allows you to create your bag. So if you want a pocket here, a strip of Velcro there, some elastic over there; then that's what you get. Have 3 fabrics you love? No problem! The ladies at Wicked Stitch will work with you to create YOUR bag.
To start, you'll select the style: Messenger (there are different sizes!), Tote, Hobo, Accessories and more to choose from, you could be stuck here for a few days... deciding which bag will work for you. But don't worry too much... you can customize so much, you can even change the dimensions! Next, start customizing. Add some pockets, delete some pockets, throw in a key clip, snap in a snap... the choices are there for you.
But wait... you're still stuck on the idea of including your favorite fabrics, aren't you? So, its time to get creative! You'll be happy to know there are very few limits here. Wicked Stitch recommends that you select your fabrics from e-quilter.com. Wait, you've never been to e-quilter? Don't worry... if you have a fabric in mind, they have it in stock! There are thousands of fabrics to choose from. Seriously. And if you're worried about how the fabrics look together, they even have a "Related Fabrics" link to help you match your fabrics. Still not sure, visit e-quilter's design board to see your selections paired together. This can be creative... you can spend weeks doing this. Especially those of you who are commitment phobes, like me.
I just have to mention how much I love the interior of my bag. Its a flexible vinyl, very leather like. Mine is off white in color (you got it, no black-hole effect) and completely wipable. Which, as you know, is so important for sippy-cup spills.
If you have questions or concerns while you're creating your bag, Alida and Toni, the ladies of Wicked Stitch, will be there to help you through e-mail. They'll answer questions, share a smiley, guide you through the selection process. (No... its not preschool, but this is a new bag, ladies! Its a true process!)
Okay... so you selected everything... now what? Well... now you have to wait. The turn-around won't be too long, but remember your bag is being created from scratch. (think Grandma's chicken soup--you'll love it, I promise!) Wicked Stitch bags are very well made, the stitching, well, its wicked good.
And then you'll get your bag. Jaws will drop, tears will fall. Because, maybe, you found it. Your bag. The one you created. For you. By you. Well... by Wicked Stitch and you. Receive a 10% reimbursement by entering mommies in the note section during checkout.

Ok, I am going to be that mom. Kind of. No I'm not passing out orange and black beribboned toothbrushes and floss this Halloween. Because, hey even the pediatric dentist on our block passes out candy - although that may be a job security ploy. But today's post is dedicated to infant/toddler oral hygeine. To what comes after that delightful lolly.
Fortunately for us, I have discovered a product for brushing my two year olds teeth that is a treat in itself and requires no crafty tricking on my part. It's this First Teeth kit by Biotene.
First of all the paste - mild and made with milk proteins, it actually tastes good. Really good. I have to stash it, or my son would be that weird kid who eats toothpaste. Second there is the brush. Not so much a brush as a little rubber finger cap with soft little rubber bristles. I used to have something like this to brush my dog's teeth. And he didn't even get chocolate, ever.
Dentists recommend that you brush your kids teeth while they are sitting on your lap, facing away from you and not face to face to get the most effective plaque removal and cleaning. I find this is easy to do with the finger brush - while my wiggly angel looks at a book, or even more fascinating - himself - in the mirror. Tooth brushing with this massaging "brush" always makes him giggle a little, but he just loves it.
We've been using this brush/paste kit for several months and it really helped with teething pains too, incidentally. Just applying pressure and massaging his gums seemed to really soothe.
The Biotene First Teeth paste/brush combo can be purchased online for $7.89 at Dentist.Net. You can also buy the brushes and the paste seperately. Happy Halloween!
Wow, I love this one. Em Jewelry makes personalized photo tile necklaces.
Each tile holds a photo of your child or children and is classy and unique looking. It's like a cool, modern-day version of a locket. Your photo is displayed right on the face of the tile, which is adored with beads and some nice strand choices.
The photo is black and white and the image is literally affixed right on the tile (it's not inserted somehow, it's literally a part of the tile, if you can imagine it). Each tile necklace comes in a round, see-through tin, making for great gift presentation.

In our rush-rush world, we often forget to let people know how much they mean to us! Everything has gotten to be so impersonal. When you want to convey a special message that lets someone know how much you really care, then Bottled Sentiments is the perfect touch!
My oldest daughter turned 13 last Monday and I wanted to give her something very unique and special and not just the ordinary mass-produced card. Her bottled sentiments arrived quickly and was packaged beautifully. Inside the beribboned box was a pretty pink bottle with the scrolled sentiment inside. A small sachet of hand selected organic potpouri petals was also included as a special touch. My daughter was delighted to receive this very special gift. She enjoyed reading her personal message in a bottle on her birthday and now keeps the pretty keepsake bottle on her dresser.
So whether it's a birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, Thank You, Valentine's Day, Apology, Wedding, Get Well, Congratulations, Just Thinking of You, or Just Because.....Express your sentiment in a unique & unforgettable way with Bottled Sentiments! Bottled Sentiments where "What Matters Is Inside"!
Bottled Sentiments is offering MWS readers 20% off their purchase now through December 31, 2006.
TeePee for Me: Great for the imagination, great for the holidays
My son's latest morning routine involves coming in to wake us up, and then climbing into bed with us and asking us to get under the "fort." As Moms know, kids love tents, forts, places they can hide and let their imagination run wild.
The TeePee for Me is a fantastic play item for your child. They come in some fabulous fabric choices, and rise to over 5 feet tall.
Set-up is really easy (we did it in stealth as we're saving this one for either a December birthday present or a new baby brother present and didn't want to ruin the surprise) and took all of 10 seconds to get up into standing position. It's really grand-looking when it's set up and I can't wait to see the excitement on my son's face when he checks it out for the first time.
They range in price from $288-366. Age range for this one is toddler to tween, so you definitely get your money's worth as it lasts for many years of playtime.
Wow Imports sells some fun and different gifts, like this cake server adorned with colored glass beads and a wipe wrapped design. Most of their items handcrafted, African bead art like the cake server.
Check it out - their items make for some different and fun holiday gifts.
They've got free shipping on sales over $50, and in addition, use coupon code mws10 for 10% off your order.
So I recently got ahold of a copy of this book, This Little Piggy went to Prada: Nursery Rhymes for the Blahnik Brigade. So funny. For those of you who have read Bergdof Blondes, this is like the kids version. Each rhyme has it's own modern twist to it relating to fashion, shopping and couture culture.
For example, "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe," has been changed to "There was a young woman who lived in her Choos." And I love the beginning of "This Old Man," which starts out, "This old man, he played one, off to St. Tropez for some sun, In her Gucci, Pucci, Mummy needs to tone, time to get the trainer home."
What a great baby shower gift for that friend who loves to shop, or just a fun purchase for yourself for the amusement!
List price is $19.95, you can get it on Amazon for $13.57 and it's eligible for free shipping when you spend $25 or more. And hurry... Earlier it was showing as limited quantities as it just came out, but it's back in stock so get it while you can.
How do you make a fabulous set of wheels even cooler? Add a super-chic stroller cover from Pure Joy . Reversible, washable and designed to fit all stroller models, these covers are not only stylish, they help protect your stroller from the inevitable spills and messes that kids make. The Flower Power print looked awesome on my Maclaran Volo, adding a splash of color ... a welcome change from basic black.
And oh, how I wish I would've had one of these carseat covers when my oldest was a toddler. I think that truly would have been the sweet life. Instead we had a child with a penchant for getting sick in the car, and a carseat with a standard cover that was not at all removable. Not quite a match made in heaven (isn't it wonderful that baby products just keep getting better and better?).
Here's your chance to snag one of these beauties for yourself. Shop Pure Joy's Collection with the Mommies With Style code 1159292442 for 15% of any order through December 1.
Reviewer's Note: On my stroller, I had to remove the cover to fully collapse it, but Pure Joy says that is rare and would not be true for most models.

If eyes are the window to your soul, then consider Talika your professional window dresser.
I first came across these excellent products when I sampled them at the Showtime Emmy Lounge. Talika, based in France, is a company that is devoted to skin, eye and nail care products and whose lash and brow formulations are clinically proven to improve the quality and speed of new hair growth at the lash and brow line. Good news for those who are skimpy of lash and/or brow!
I'd originally intended to choose just one item to write about, but I like several of them so much, that I would be holding out if I did not tell you about them all. So here are my faves!
Eyebrow Extender gel: This is truly a miracle of modern high tech cosmetics. And a lifesaver for the overplucked. Check out this before and after pic. The clear gel contains tiny hairlike fibers that "fill in" when you apply the product over your brow line. The company's rep drew an utterly convincing eyebrow on the back of her hand, while demonstrating this product. A tiny brush at the tip of the applicator grooms the brow as you apply and the gel (which contains ingredients to foster hair regrowth) holds your brow shape all day without flaking.
Eyelash Liposomes: I use this one right before bed. It brushes on like mascara but is a very light clear gel. Feels like water. It has noticibly strengthened and lengthened my lashes. Which is a good thing. I like to bat them to get my way!
Conditioning eye makeup remover: This is the first gentle remover that I have used that take it all off - waterproof mascara even, without stinging, rubbing, eyelash loss and that lovely "missed a spot" next morning residue. Two pumps of the blue liquid leave your eyes totally nude and fresh. No more mommy racoon eyes in the am.
Eyebrow lipocils conditioning gel: Ok here is where I was most blown away. Because I have thin skimpy pale blond brows. To the point that it looks like I don't have brows if you are a few yards away. And when I told my husband about this product he laughed at how gullible I am (as husbands do). I still persisted with my evening application of this gel. Then one morning a few weeks later he woke me up and said "Ummm honey? I was just looking at you and you have eyebrows! That is SO weird". Now I have to say I do not have big bushy hairy brows now - thank goodness - but they are definitely filled in to the point that you can see they are there. And you could not before. That is my story.
I gotta say - be careful where you put this stuff. You don't want to apply it to your chest or chin!
Talika products can be found at Skinterra. They offer free shipping and a special $35 value gift with purchase when you spend $75 or more.

Simple and classic... great gifts for learning, playing and decorating
We recently finished the basement, and with the basement came the much needed playroom. I wanted to decorate the playroom with a simple, classic look. Something fun, friendly, and not overwhelming. Like all design "students" I tore pages and pages from catalogs and books. And the look I kept finding was a border of letter cards. Simple. Classic.
The cards are by eeboo, a company known for creating beautiful, well-made products for children. Among their products, you'll find gorgeous maps of the US and world (also adorning our playroom walls), educational toys and travel games. There are several themes, from baseball to history to animals to good habits.
The wall cards are sturdy--not quite heavy, but much thicker than cardstock. Their laminated surface doesn't shine, but is more of a matte laminate. I chose to hang mine with a tacky-gum you can find in craft stores and Home Depot stores, but they'll look great on a moulding shelf as well.
Another eeboo favorite in our family are the Matching games. Matching is very "in" in our house right now, so my 3-year-old is loving his games. Many games are age appropriate for kids around 3-4, some are for the "older" kids. So if you're beginning your holiday shopping, you may have only one stop to make when it comes to classy and quiet gifts (we're attempting a breather from the loud games and toys).
eeboo products are available at Genius Babies where you can use code mommies5 for $5.00 off any order of $30 or more.
One of my favorite pre-kid weekend activities was grabbing a cup of coffee, lounging on the couch and watching an episode of House Beautiful on a lazy Saturday morning. I got such a thrill out of seeing the clean lines and innovative, stylish homes. I drooled over all the beautiful items they showcased each week that my home seemed to demand.
Well, after children, I still get my copy of Dwell and try to keep my house as orderly as possible. And yes, I still prefer clean, simple, beautiful pieces for holding toys and the other various items I step over each day. But when it came to the nursery, I had trouble finding items that fit my aesthetic. Everything seemed to be too cutesy-cutesy. Now parents who have an eye for design won’t have that problem, because Skip Hop has come to the rescue.
Skip Hop has a chic and contemporary new line of items to hold all the sundry items you and your little ones need. Fusing innovative styling with practicality, Skip Hop’s new line will delight the urban mama in you.
The Chow - Check out this forward-thinking take on storing your little pumpkin’s jars of food. Perfect for the pantry and it won’t have you sorting through stacks of jars to find the greenbeans.
The Splash - Oooh, great design and having junior’s bottles off the icky counter—what more can we ask for?
The Toolbox - Possibly my favorite of Skip Hop’s innovations. It is the cleanest solution to holding everything you need for a diaper changing (which as we know, can be the most unstylish thing we do all day). Pre-order your Toolbox at Amazon. They hit shelves early November.
Having a 3 year old, I've learned that costumes aren't just for Halloween any more. Time after time I turn to find my big guy holding his pirate suit, construction jacket, or even his fireman raincoat, saying "Mommy, please help me put this on." And then 5 minutes after pirating around the house, he's back, asking to be dressed as Goliath, from JoJo's Circus.
So, this year, I'm on the look out for post-Halloween sales. I noticed that Halloween Adventure stores have window signs stating 50% off all costumes beginning November 1. They'll see me there at 9:59 am, ready to shop.
Before I even step out the door, and 5 days before Halloween, Disney is bringing a little costume magic. They've marked down their costumes again. Most costumes have been moved to the Disney Outlet, with discounts as low as 70%.
Buzz (today's costume) is getting a little lonely. Looks like Woody may mozey on over for some fun, now that his costume is 50% off.
It's all about the packaging, right? Here's one that takes the cake on packaging and it's just too fun as a gift for that friend who loves eating sushi: Baby Rolls from Sam & Bellie. These onesies come organized in a take-out sushi box and are wrapped up in tissue to look like the roll you've ordered.
We've got the Spicy Tuna roll; it's been sitting on my table waiting for this review and I have to admit I'm pretty desperate in this pregnancy because every time I look at it, it makes me count down my weeks of pregnancy left (two!) until I have this baby and I can indulge in some sushi and sake again.
Select from Spicy Tuna, Edamame and Shrimp Roll - each onesie is priced at $27 and you can get up to 18m. For an extra $3, throw in a baby-sized wasabi and tamago soap piece to add to the authentic look of this package.
If I had $1 for every time I heard my husband talk about his fantasy-whatever team, well ... let's just say I could go shopping a whole lot more.
It's good clean fun, I know. It's just that the whole thing has always struck me as a bit silly ... all those grown men totally engrossed in their imaginary professional sports teams. But after all my mocking (and oh, how I haved mocked), I may have to eat my words. I've just found two fantasy leagues that I may be able to get on board with, the Fantasy Fashion League (FFL) and the Tabloid Fantasy League (TFL)
These leagues take the world of fantasy teams to (at least in my opinion) a wholly more interesting level. Instead of drafting a roster of players, you draft a team of celebs, and in the FFL, designers as well. Specific rules vary depending on the league, but in general, points are earned when anyone on your team is mentioned in the press (varying points depending the hit). Extra points for fashion bonanzas like NY Fashion Week and Awards Shows, points off when your celeb lands on a worst-dressed list.
So put your fashionista and celebrity-trivia prowess to good use. And who knows, the next time someone in your house says, "just a sec babe, I need to check my fantasy team," it may just be you.
If you are still carrying around your diapers and wipes in a Ziploc bag, please stop. Not to disparage the beloved, all-purpose plastic baggie, but there's a whole wide world of options for toting your diapers about town crinkle free ... ones that were never intended to house Cheerios or Goldfish crackers.
If you're new to the concept, the overall idea is a good one. For moms with older babies who don't need all the "stuff", or those who are just making a quick dash and don't want to lug a huge bag along, they are genius. Just pack it with a few essentials (diapers, wipes and perhaps a bib), tuck it under your arm or into your purse and you're ready to roll. And if you're still in that stage where you need to bring everything known to man and mommy with you each time you leave the house, these lovely little bags are great for keeping your diapers from getting smooshed and wrinkled at the bottom of your diaper bag. Another fabulous idea that I wish I thought of!
Here's the thing though. With all the new brands and styles of these on-the-go packs popping up, I'm seeing a classic baby bag identity crisis. So many seem to be trying too hard ... they're too big, too bulky or include too many accessories. I mean really, are they a full-scale diaper bag or not? Call me high maintenance, but I need my accessories to commit.
Happily, I received a diaper and wipe case recently from Eggi Baby that really hits the mark. With a simple, streamlined design, The Eggi Baby Classic tucks neatly into any bag, holds all your baby basics with ease and, of course, comes in many great fabric choices (my favorites are Luau Baby and Chocolate Martini).
In my opinion though, the unique, shining star of the Eggi Baby family is the Mini. While the Classic size works for all of baby's necessities, the Mini is perfect for mommy must-haves. It fits a few tampons and panty liners perfectly. No more tampons with ripped wrappers (I HATE that) floating around the abyss that is my messenger bag. No more getting caught unprepared in an emergency. I adore this little case, and my bag will never be without one.
You too can share in this purse-changing epiphany ... you too can move beyond the plastic bag. Mommies With Style readers can shop Eggi Baby with the code MWS06 (just put the code the message section) and receive a $4 rebate on the Classic and a $2 rebate on the Mini. Check it out (I promise, the Ziplocs will still be there if you need them!).

Having recently given birth, the attention I now turn to my tummy has to do with stretch marks left behind. Towards the end of my pregnancy I discovered Tummy Honey Stretch Mark Solutions by Mother’s Intuition. While pregnant, I started using the Tummy Honey Butter which was super moisturizing to prevent further stretch marks and now after the birth I have been using the Tummy Honey Cream to fade my existing stretch marks. Both products leave my tummy feeling very moisturized without that greasy feeling and are hypoallergenic and all natural.
You know how people love "theme" showers? Like, ooh! Its so fun to go through an entire day with gifts! Why not be sassy? Head on over to Wry Baby and put some humor in your gifts.
Wry Baby reaches in and pulls out the sense of humor in even the humorless and terrified parents-to-be. So, you were assigned 2 am? With gifts like the "Wheel of Responsibility" (which I totally wish I had at those awful 2 am diaper changes way-back-when) the giftee will giggle, and then her eyes will light up as she tries to figure out how to rig it to always land on the "Dad" spot. And I love the "nursing baby" onesie--would have been perfect for me when I was terrified of breast-feeding my first. (Not to mention a good reminder for those who often say "why can't you just give her a bottle?")
Maybe you have an undescribable time like 3 pm?
Grab a Mysterio Predicts T. It comes in a sealed grab-bag. Even the gift giver will be surprised when, at the shower, your giftee opens her bag and finds that Mysterio predicts sweet little baby will be a "Mafia Accountant" , a "Game Show Host", or another of his 12 predictions.
So sprinkle a little fun and sass at your next shower. Use code stylinmoms to receive 10% off your purchase of $10 or more through November 15.
Just when I thought I'd almost gotten over my near lust for the Mia Bossi Maria, they go and introduce a new must-have messenger style bag to their line. This one is called the Reese, inspired of course, by the classy and stylish Reese Witherspoon - a genuine mommy style icon.
What I love about this bag, which should come as no big surprise to those who know how I detest the term "diaper
bag", is how un-baby it is. It is unapologetically adult in it's styling. Thank you to the Mia Bossi designers for understanding that the last thing I want hanging on my person, is something juvenile and cutesy that clearly advertises that it contains pampers and butt-rash cream. The Reese is already appealing to a broader market of women - even those who are not moms. Note: I can usually tell I will like a baby bag when non mommy types are spotted toting it, sheerly for it's style. Celebs currently carrying the Reese bag include an expecting Tori Spelling.
Style aside for a moment, there is more than just good looks to love about this bag. Boasting clean and simple lines, it hangs confortably - flat and sleek against the body. High quality leather and designer textiles and sturdy brass hardware and magnetic closures add substance to style.
If you are familiar with the also gorgeous and covetable Maria, you will recognize the similar interior organization in the Reese. The lining has many custom sized pockets and zips out for cleaning. Accessing the contents of the Reese is made easy, and the black hole effect is diminished because the flap opening is quite wide. And because of the Reese's messenger styling and long adjustible strap, it is a snap to drape over a stroller handle, facing you, and quickly see and retrieve all of your things without stooping and digging. Or you can wear it crossbody and be hands free. There is ample room for all your and your baby's necessities in the spacious, multi pocketed and well organized interior. And you'll be glad to note that the bag comes with a coordinated flat fur topped changing mat.
The fabric and lightweight leather version I tested was comfortable to wear and not as heavy as many all leather bags (which I dearly love, but which may at some point lead me to book a series of chiropractor visits).
If you, like me, are looking at it and thinking that it would make a great work/laptop bag later on down the line, if only there was a way to convert it... conratulations! You just may be psychic. Or smart. Or both. Because the clever designers were also thinking ahead on this. They offer an add-on padded laptop case that you can swap in for the multi-pocketed baby bag lining. Both linings simply zip in/out for cleaning and repurposing. Nice to know that this power bag is going to serve you well for years to come.
If I had to nitpick and suggest an addition to this bag - it would be feet. Particularly for the fabric version. I am paranoid about setting down any bag that lacks feet. But this is a small consideration. Because honestly, I am not likely to set a bag this nice down somewhere dirty anyway. I'll set the kid in the dirt and put the bag in the stroller! Just kidding. Ummm - okay, I am not kidding. Kids hose off easier!
All in all I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone searching for a dual purpose high style messenger. It's sure to inspire compliments and keep you chic, even as you grab for you thousandth wipey of the day and, of course, retrieve your child's butt-rash cream.
