A clean car seat???

LillyChair.jpgIsn’t it a hassle to clean your child’s car seat cover? You have to disassemble the straps, wash the manufacture’s cover sometimes by hand, wait for it to air day and then go through the labor-intensive process of reinstalling the car seat? Well, don’t be annoyed and frustrated anymore! The Lilly Pad is a waterproof car seat cover that is super easy to slip on to your existing car seat cover. It attaches in seconds by using Velcro closures to secure it. The Lilly Pad comes off just as simply for easy cleaning since it is machine washable and dryer safe! It comes in a host of stunning, stylish, soft, luxurious fabrics! The Lilly Pad will fit most 5-point-harness toddler car seats. It is specifically made to fit the Britax® Marathon™ and Roundabout®.

On our recent trip to the beach, I had put on the Lilly Pad cover just before we left to test it out. My daughter loved the Serengeti print and kept telling me “how soft and comfortable the fabric is, Mommy,” when I asked her how she liked it! When we came back from the beach and we noticed her car seat was full of sand, we were able to get rid of it in seconds thanks to the ease of removing the Lilly Pad!

So the next time your child has a potty accident or dumps his or her cup of milk (not on purpose, of course) on their car seat, keep the Lilly Pad in mind! You’ll both love it!

This Little Roller Stayed in Bed!

We moved Wesley (my now 2! year old) into his bed several months ago. It was a slow process, and mostly because we learned what a roller he is. He started with a mattress on the floor. And 8 nights out of ten, we'd find him in the middle of the room.

After several months of rolling, we decided it was time to teach him to really stay in bed. He was asking for it, too. The novelty of the mattress on the floor had worn off, and we faced a fight getting him from his big brother's bed to the mattress each evening. I happily took apart the bunk beds in Carson's room and moved the top bunk into Wesley's (which was always the plan... no matter how surprised Carson was). Of course, every bunk bed comes with side gates, and we quickly attached those to the sides. But they were hard on me as I bent over to kiss Wesley goodnight. And, as he is a roller, Wes found a way to roll to the other end of the bed, the side where the ladder would have gone had it been a top bunk, and tumble to the floor. Not only that, but his many rolls turned to hard bumps against the gates.

Conveniently, I had another option: a Snug Tuck Pillow (also known as Bed Bugz). We were on our way on a road trip the next morning, so we tossed our snug-tuck pillow in the car and off we went. We arrived at our destination with an exhausted almost 2-year-old who only wanted to sleep. Thank goodness it took just seconds to attach the Snug Tuck Pillow! The bolster, which is nearly the length of a bed, attaches to the mattress with a very strong elastic which adjusts and pulls tightly shut with the help of a buckle--similar to one on an airplane. The bolster pillow is a hard pillow--not soft like a regular pillow that kids could burrow into. When Wesley rolls into it, he safely bounces off--rather than a hard railing to bump into, he now gets a soft reminder that he can't go further. Each morning, he can easily crawl over the pillow; there's no longer a need for scaling the top of a bed gate and flying over.

And the best part? No rolling off the bed. The Snug Tuck Pillow firmly stayed on the bed and held our little roller on safely. Its available at SnugTuckPillow.com. Use code MWS for 15% off. Use the code on the shipping selection page.

New Disney releases

New movies for the week of August 27th:

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Halloween Treat - this one's fun for the upcoming holiday, it's a couple of episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, all with the theme; plus a bonus episode of Little Einsteins (also Halloween-themed)

Little Einsteins: Rocket's Firebird Rescue - for some reason this one really held both boys' attention

This one is releasing next week, you can preorder now:

Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: So with two boys we don't normally watch princess movies but we got roped into this one (it was actually requested by my 3.5 year old!) I had forgotten how girly princess movies can be! I truly have to laugh because I'm so used to the boy movies that this one was refreshing to watch. It's a split movie with two tales - one about Sleeping Beauty and the other about Jasmine. I'm sure any little girl would love this. (Or boy, in our case, although we got about 1/4 of the way in and I think he wanted to know where all the action was; Sleeping Beauty prancing around in a pink dress and singing didn't quite cut it in the end.)

Get all three movies on Amazon and spend $25 to receive free shipping.

Back to School with MomAgenda!

Whitney recently wrote a review about an awesome new product from MomAgenda called the Kitchen Folio, which is a great organizational product for your home. But MomAgenda's core products, their day planners, help make mom's lives easier at home AND on the go.

I recently had the chance to try out one of their planners, called the MomAgenda Mini Daily. I wasn't sure how I would like this product since I am generally an "electronic" kind of girl. I usually log all of my appointments in Outlook, and before I had kids and was in the working world, I carried around a Palm. But as soon as I saw the Mini Daily, I was impressed. First of all, this planner is gorgeous. It feels nice, looks nice, and is a great, fun color (and the cover is stain resistant, too!) Inside, it has a day-on-a-page format with space for mom and up to four children, as well as monthly-view pages. It also includes an address book that can be taken out and used year after year.

The Mini doesn't leave any detail missing; there are even pages to detail your favorite books, movies, music, restaurants, wines, health plan, exercise plan, and more. My favorite pages include a gift record (we buy so many gifts!), entertaining resources, vacation ideas, party planning, medical info, and birthdays and anniversary's. All of these great pages in one compact book!

As the school year starts, this is the perfect accessory to get organized (in style!). Download a free printable week-at-a-view and try it out, or purchase now from Tiny Truffles for 10% off! Use code MWS10 for the discount (and also receive free shipping for any purchase over $65).

21 Weeks Pregnant: Escape with the BabyMe Package at the W Hotels

I just hit the 21 week mark in my pregnancy. I'm feeling tired, partly from running after a toddler all summer, partly from getting further along in my pregnancy, all while working 2 nights a week teaching, and writing for CBB and MWS part time. I needed a break (and my 3 year wedding anniversary just passed). And I got it - a luscious night at the W Hotel - the Court in New York City recently with their "Baby Me" Package.

With our child safely ensconced at our apartment with a gaggle of grandparents, my husband and I sampled their awesome "Baby Me" Package. It's what is commonly called a BabyMoon. And we loved it. As parents, we usually don't get the chance to go out on the town very often and this is only the second night I have stayed in another place than my 22 month old son.

The W Hotels' "Baby Me" Package included a night at the W Hotel, a Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bag, a W Hotel - Whoops baby onesie - says "whoops" on the behind (in size 3-6 months) and its 100% hypoallergenic cotton, Bliss Spa Foot Patrol (I love this brand!!)- to soothe your tired tooties, a 6 month subscription to Cookie Magazine, Jane Buckingham's The Modern Girl's Guide to Motherhood, as well as a 6 month membership to Modern Mom's fun events like spa events, wine tastings and sample sales and a coupon for 40% off any FABULOUS Jennifer DeLonge item of furniture, available at jenniferdelonge.com. How awesome is all that stuff?

One of the highlights of our stay, was the special Womb Service Menu (get it!! Hubby and I thought it was hysterical). It offered yummy treats, designed for late night snacking. Choose from either sweet and salty items (3 treats are included in your package). Sweet included: A bowl of ice cream, cookies and milk, a milkshake, a healthy fresh fruit plate, or a fruit smoothie. The Salty treats included: Hamburger and french fries, an individual pizza, grilled Cheese and french fries, a plate of pickles, or an assortment of chips and nuts. Bypassing the healthy fruit plate, we chose chocolate milkshakes and the plate of pickles. The sweet milkshakes really complimented the huge plate of garlicky sour pickles. Probably the best snack I've had all pregnancy!

The room had a sitting room and a separate bedroom area. The cream colored room was done in furniture of chocolate brown and lipstick red. The red chaise lounge was so comfortable for relaxing on. Bliss Spa products with Lemon & Sage were offered in the pristine white bathroom (and they even offer a coupon for further purchases). The hotel welcomed us warmly with a little present - a Red Bull drink (hubby drank it) and delicious Ice Cream Maltball Mix from Dylan's Candy Bar. The staff was courteous and really took care of us. The bed was comfy and I loved the feather duvet! The plasma TVs in each room were a great touch!

The location of the hotel was great: The W Hotel - The Court was on 39th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues. We ended up going to a steakhouse in midtown for dinner and then hit a movie theater on 42nd Street (since we NEVER get to see a movie at home). It was great to be able to walk to our destinations!

This BabyMe Package actually orginated at the The W Hotel inSan Diego AND they've upped the ante in sunny San Diego by launching an uber-popular Mommy Hour. Mommies and kids love to meet at their rooftop beach bar happy hour for non-alcholic cocktails (or the much deserved glass of wine- but for the mommies only). As a mom, I love a bar/restaurant that's kid-friendly and will not give me the death glare if my child, while being supervised, runs around!! Mommies and mommies-to-be also love to indulge in their Away Spa's services, especially their soothing Maternity Massage. Couldn't you just go for that too????

Have I piqued your interest? I'd go back in a heartbeat!! Click here to book this package for you and your partner.

Blocks & Puzzles at the Great American Puzzle Factory

There's no inappropriate age for blocks, even my 34-year old husband seems entertained when he builds a tower with a set of blocks. We got a set of Crayola stacking blocks from Great American Puzzle Factory this summer and it's been a great hit of a toy. Both boys love playing with them; Nate (3.5) loves to stack and nest and Cole loves to suck on them and knock them over. (The higher the tower, the more enticing it is for baby, and frustrating for his brother... )

The blocks are colorful and each side has numbers, letters, words and shapes printed on them.

Use coupon code CrayolaMWS for 10% off your order of these or any of the fun puzzles at the Great American Puzzle Factory site through December 31, 2007.

32 Weeks Pregnant: Looking forward to my Shower Hug

When my baby is born in a few weeks there are a lot of different hugs that I am looking forward to giving and receiving. One hug in particular that I know will bring me extra comfort is The Shower Hug by Belmama & Cherub.

This is a wonderful product that is very simple in design, yet offers endless uses that will provide comfort for nursing Moms during an often uncomfortable time. The Shower Hug was designed to shield sensitive breasts from harsh water sprays during showers, as well as to avoid contact of irritating soaps and shampoos on sore nipples. The Shower Hug offers many other helpful uses as well, such as giving bust support when breasts are engorged or when bra straps are uncomfortable, absorbing nighttime breast milk leaks so that you can take a break from irritating or sticky nursing pads and it also serves as a convenient, hands-free, way of holding warm or cold compresses on sore breasts. Another helpful use for The Shower Hug is to give tummy support and protection for post c-section recovery. It is super soft, easily adjustable and completely machine washable.

My Shower Hug is definitely coming with me to the hospital and I know it will be a constant companion during post delivery recovery and adjusting to nursing again. It's the Hug that keeps on hugging!

Visit www.belliesandbooties.com to purchase your own Shower Hug and use the code "Tummy" for 20% off.

One ride for all, in a fabulous carseat from Jane USA

4542G74_red.jpgOn any given day, running errands, going to school pickups, dropping off pals after a playdate or for soccer practice, I have a half dozen children between the ages of 2 and 10 in and out my car. Which is why I have quite a collection of carseats in the back - ranging from a covertible infant to toddler seat, backless boosters and a one piece booster/harness seat. The infant/toddler seat is fixed in place with the latch system but the rest all use belts and are juggled from the third row to the second, to the trunk space depending on the size and age of the passengers involved. It is, quite frankly, a pain in the butt.

But there is an end to my constant carseat shuffle with my new Team Plus car seat from Jane USA. I am thrilled to report that this one brilliant carseat quickly and easily adjusts (without unbuckling) to seat my 3 yr old, my 7 yr old, and even my 10 yr old. This carseat is not only rated for kids 30-80 lbs, it is truly fitted for them. Adjustments are quick and easy to accomplish, without removing the seat. There are multiple height and width adjustments, making for the safest ride for all sizes. If your car has reclining rear seats as ours does, you'll be glad that the Jane carseat also has multiple recline positions. Which makes for the glorious sounds of snoozing silence from the backseat, on longer trips.

Although my 70 lb 10 yr old is technically out of a carseat by law she found the Jane so comfortable that she actually asks to sit in it for longer trips. The head and back support and raised vantage point are all motivating for her to sit in what she used to disdainfully refer to as a "baby seat". All three of my children/testers confirmed that the seat was extremely comfy for them to sit in. Which means we will have to get at least one more!

The thing that I loved the most about the Jane car seat is that it is the first booster/lap belt seat I have tried that uses a lap belt (which was easy to thread and also easy for my children to fasten by themselves) but also latches into my car's latch system. Other boosters seem flimsy and unsafe by comparison, sliding all over the rear seat. It is difficult with these types of seats, to be sure that your booster will remain in the right position. This can be of critical importance, particularly in a side impact. Adding the rigid latch connectors makes the carseat outperform non-fixed seats in these types of crashes. And finally, there is the additional danger of the seat becoming a projectile object when you are driving around without a child buckled in to the seat. Ever slam on the brakes and feel an empty carseat slam into the back of your seat? Ummm... I have. It's sobering, and is what made me start putting the boosters that were not in use, into the trunk. But with the Indy Plus I am able to leave this one carseat safely latched in place, knowing I will be able to accomodate any of my kids (or their pals) in it. No more booster juggling!

The Jane USA Team Plus carseat has exceeded US safety standards and is a seat I would recommend to anyone who's child is aging out of their toddler carseat, or anyone who needs to keep a versatile second carseat in the car. You cannot go wrong. Check out the Jane USA website for information on dealers.

Comfyland: teaching kids to learn the PC

It's hard to believe my children are going to grow up so versed in technology. I still remember my parents first Mac, which we had to boot up with a floppy disc and could do all of about 3 things. I was even still hand-writing (*gasp*) letters to my friends when I was in college to keep in touch.

Today's kids are certainly ahead of our generation. I've got my 3.5 year old doing things on the Internet that his grandparents can't even do. Just the other day, he showed me how to get past a level in a Diego game that even he knew the answer to more quickly than I did. It's a bit frightening but also I also think it's pretty cool.

The latest product we've been testing out for the computer is this Easy PC system from ComfyLand. This is a great into computer for a toddler. It's a "keyboard system" that plugs right into your USB cable. A couple of big colorful buttons, along with a fun little program that's provided, help teach your child how to interact on a computer. It also teaches them how to use a mouse. The age range is for ages 1-5; they obviously have different programs for different aged kids (either ages 1-3 or 3-5 and there are various levels in each age range).

You can find it online on the ComfyLand site, at Barnes and Noble online, Target and more. Check out their list of retailers to find one near you.

Mama needs a new cell phone

So my cell phone finally died. I had the pretty pink Motorola Razr and I think letting Cole us it as a teething toy finally backfired on me (there's a surprise). It just decided to stop working one day. I took it into my local AT&T store and after proclaiming that they: 1) couldn't fix it and 2) I was beyond my warranty, I started looking at new cell phones.

I stood in front of the Blackberry and Treo section thinking that it was about time I sucked it up and bought something that would give me a means of checking email when I'm away from the house. I played around with both, not too enthused about either (and since my husband has a Blackberry he's always glued to, I'm irrationally annoyed by Blackberrys in general) when the iPhone display came into my peripheral vision.

So it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't a hard sell as I'm somewhat of a techno-junkie (trapped in a Mom's body). 15 minutes later, I walked out of the store with my new iPhone in hand.

In short, it's the coolest thing ever. I couldn't possibly go into every feature without most of your eyes glazing over so I'll just focus on the major ones:

A touch screen. Voice mail that lets you touch and listen to each one without having to go through all of them. Email (free accounts and POP). An iPod. Internet browsing, Text Messaging, the Weather and more. True, it has a ton of features already available in other PDA/cells available today but I find this one to be by far the friendliest and easiest to use of the ones I've played with. It's just made for a Mom! It locks (no kiddies dialing out by accident), it has nice big numbers (easy to use the touch pad when you're in a hurry) and more.

I got the 4GB - my iPod's 30GB so I obviously had to pick and choose what would go on the iPhone. But I basically made a couple mixes for myself, one for my kids and then downloaded a few tv shows for them if the need ever arises. I can get my email, my phone calls and entertain my kids, and it all sits in a small pocket in my diaper bag.

I'm waiting for Apple to make a product that'll change my kids diapers too, then I'd have it all. And they need to make it in pink. It's a little manly looking for my girly self.

The 4GB is $499, so I won't insult anyone by saying it's related to anything remotely resembling a bargain. The only consolation: email service is cheaper ($20 for the iPhone, whereas it was $30 and $40 a month respectively, for the Blackberry and Treo). I got it in-store at AT&T, you can also buy it at the Apple store with free shipping.

20 Weeks Pregnant: Belly Belt Slide- Keep Your (Pre-preg) Pants On!

During my first pregnancy in 2005, I lived in the Belly Belts. But they only made them in the button style. But it worked very well for some of my pants (and that was better than nothing!). I was very pleased to discover that now they make the Belly Belt Slide (for slide and clasp fastenings). I'm excited, because I can now use them with my many pairs or clasp fastening capris.

The Belly Belt Slide Kit ($17.95) contains 3 elasticized Belly Belts in small, medium and large, 3 colored panels in navy, beige and black and a storage bag (a great idea because it was hard keeping track of my original belly belt kit!).

According to product info,"Christine Kininmonth, a Sydney newsreader for Australia's Sky News television channel, thought it up when she was pregnant in 1996. She was keen to stay in her suits for on-air work and hand-sewed a prototype."

For those moms who want to stay in their pre-preg pants, as long as possible, this product is for you. You're still going to have to wear your shirt over your pants, but the colored panels fit the most popular colored pants (and if not, you're wearing a shirt over it anyway!!) and work wonderfully.

Read me the book about me, Mom

There are a lot of "customized" books available out there. Here's one that my son has taken a liking to -- Custom Made for Kids' "The First Adventures of Incredible You." What's fun about this one is that not only is the name customized, but little details throughout the book that you have chosen.

For example, you can put in your favorite sports team -- and who in that child's life will be attending. ("Mommy and Daddy" go to a "Philadelphia Eagles" game in our book.) You can also pick favorite zoo, who your child is most likely to gaze at the stars with, bake cookies with and more. Each page had some sort of personal tidbit and no one's forgotten, from siblings to pets to grandparents, there's a mention for each in the space of the pages of this book.

It makes a neat gift too. It retails for $32.95, but you can use coupon code mws15 for 15% off your order through November 15, 2007.

Wall Candy Arts: Better than sliced bread

This will probably come off as totally stupid sounding, but here goes: this product rocks. I don't even know what more I can say to articulate how much I love this product. I'll just say that this has been a bit hit in our house and is fantastic. WallCandy Arts are stickers to decorate and entertain on your walls.

They're large and they peel and stick on the walls, some for decor purposes, some for your kids to draw on. And they have all sorts of fun items: plain squares and circles, animal shapes, they even have a growth chart where you can chart your child's growth progress. The chalkboard pieces come with white chalk.

I was definitely worried testing this one out too - we used the plain big chalkboard (square) and the animals. We peeled a big square one and I put it on my son's wall with a threat about not getting any of the chalk on the walls, and a warning from my husband about how it better not ruin any of our paint job when I remove it later on. I'm happy to report that my son was very behaved with the chalk but did get a tiny bit on the walls, and that it wiped right off. Better yet, the entire chalkboard sticker peeled right off with ease and not a scratch to the walls. And they have such fun items for decoration purposes: stripes, airplanes, animals, flowers and much more.

Visit the WallCandyArts.com site to see everything they have to offer. Arte Bebe also has some of the collection, and you can view it and get it at 10% off with coupon code MWSFALL07 for that, and anything else on the site. Check it out - it takes "drawing on the walls" to a whole new level.

Site downtime

Hey Mommies - I wanted to post an announcement to answer some of the emails in my inbox. We had some downtime this morning. Our webhost had problem and several sites were shut down, ours included.

I don't know many more details other than it being some sort of software error that is being looked into. But it had nothing to do with us and that we're back up. Rest assured, we're not going anywhere!
