30 Weeks Pregnant: Noodle & Boo's New Glowology Line Nourishes My Skin
Heading into my 30th week of pregnancy, my ankles are getting more swollen every minute. And my feet are getting so dry! What can I do to fix this?
Well, Noodle & Boo, very well known for taking care of the sensitive skin for the playground set (also a celeb fave for their kids) recently started a line for expecting mamas called Glowology. They sent me two products to review, The Balm and the Elasticity Oil. Both are organic and I'm so in love with them!
The Balm ($24 for 6.5 oz) actually moisturizes my feet and feels wonderful. You can also use it on your hands. Made with oh-so-rich organic shea butter, sunflower oil and with a blend of billberry, lemon, orange, sugar cane and sugar maple extracts, it smells amazing (but I like that it works!) It also kept the moisture in for hours (something the other lotions I've used just don't do). Treat your feet to this, whether you're pregnant or not! I do not let it out of my sight!
I'm also using their Elasticity Oil ($42 for a 4 oz bottle) to nourish my itchy belly and bust. You can also add it to your bath. This heavenly oil contains sunflower and jojoba seed oil, with a little honey, calendula (to calm the skin) and grape seed oil (to soothe). Also smells delicious and works well!
Noodle & Boo also have some other great products in their new line, I'd love to try. Check out the Perfecting Creme ($62) - to reduce stretch marks and the Afterglow Gel - to firm and slim the skin. To see the other delicious products in the Glowology line, click here.
Noodle & Boo will ship to the US and Canada. The Glowology products are availabe at Neiman Marcus (exclusively until December and then available to all their retailers in January) or shop for Glowology now online at Noodle & Boo's site.
Exclusive for MWS Readers:Noodle & Boo is offering 10% off to MWS Readers with code mwsdisc. Expires November 15th.
Ciaran did a review of these thongs from Smart Ass Gals for the Holiday Season in 2006. I thought they were so funny and we had such a great response from the review that I didn't forget about them for this year's season.
A great stocking stuffer, for under the tree or for that friend with a sense of humor, the Signature Thongs from Smart Ass Gals are sure to get a laugh. My favorites are, "yummy mummy," "high maintenance," "control freak" and "trophy wife."
There's also "something blue" for that friend who is getting married, or "bun in the oven" for all you preggo types.
Use coupon code galpal for 20% off your order of $50 or more.
A fairly new product in the soft-soled shoes world, Rileyroos have a little something different. Their soles have small areas of rubber, cushioning the foot in all the right spots. The rubber is framed in an ever-so-soft leather, which is hand-sewn to the top of the shoe, allowing for breath, movement and growth. Elastic laces enable additional growth and movement, and the shoes stay secure with a large velcro strap. Ankles and skin are protected by a thick, cushioned collar. Actually, Rileyroos really combine all my favorite soft-soled elements into one baby shoe.
A bit more for the narrow footed, Rileyroos are available in sizes 6-12 and 12-18 months, with 18-24 slated to arrive in the next few weeks. Select from a sharp and sporty shoe, cute and embellished, moccassin-style or Caters, boots that will keep babies toes super warm this winter.
As a knitter I am always looking for books to inspire me. As a busy impatient person, I am also always looking for books with patterns that I can actually accomplish. Let's just say, skill and attention span are not my forte. But when I found the book Knitted Babes by Clare Garland, I knew I was onto something.
Now I know some of you are thinking "It looks too hard!". I'm here to tell you, that the patterns for the dolls in Knitted Babes are not too hard. In fact they are shockingly easy, even for a totally novice knitter. Not to brag, but I can knit up an entire doll in a weekend. Note: I can only be descibed as an advanced novice knitter at best. You really only need to know basic knit and purl stitching, which makes the yarn babes a wonderful and satisfying (fast!) project. I love using up the spare bits and pieces of my stash on these dolls. But if you would like to try making a yarn babe and do not know where to start or what yarn to buy, the author sells pre assembled kits from her website - Dot Pebbles.
For more ambitious knitters, Clare Garland has written a sequel. Dream Toys includes the basic doll patterns as well as slightly more challenging ones for a gorgeous unicorn with flower saddle, cowboys and mustangs, a fairytale castle, fairies, mermaids and a pirate doll and boat. All the items are utterly adorable.
Even if you gave up on knitting years ago, buy these books for your friend, mom or grandma who loves to knit. Sure it's a little selfish of you to drop such an unsubtle hint. But any knitter is sure to be completely thrilled with the charming projects and fabulously creative inspiration in these books. And hey, if you happen to get some utterly amazing handmade gifts for your kids in the years to come... that's ok too!
It is Halloween time. Which means lots of candy. For a parent of a child with peanut allergies, this is more frightening than any haunted house. Sawyer and Sage both have their costumes and treat buckets, but I will be closely monitoring what goes in and what they're allowed to eat.
Robin Davison knows this feeling. She has an allergic child, so she knows the constant fear and anxiety every time her child goes to the playground where kids run around on the equipment with peanutbutter sandwiches (my personal pet peeve), or to a birthday party, or basically whenever her child eats or goes anywhere while she's not there to ensure he is safe.
Because even though you tell those in charge about your child's allergies, no one is as cautious as you. Just the other day I saw Sawyer's preschool teacher bring in a container of alphabet cookies. I recognized the container as something I've had to put back on the shelf at Costco. I had to tell her that they are made on shared equipment with nuts - something she didn't know. She would have served them to Sawyer had I not just happened to see her.
That's why Davison started STAT Kids. From her website, www.statkids.com, Davison sells products that raise awareness to a child's particular issue, and which keep emergency information and medication, such as an epi pen, handy at all times.
We tried out the roomy lunch bag, which has a ginormous graphic across the top that clearly says "Peanut Allergy." Sawyer really enjoyed putting his toys in it, but we will bring it along this weekend for his lunch when we go to Day out with Thomas.
There are also red rubber bracelets - like the Livestrong yellow ones - with peanut allergy clearly written on them., which Sawyer thought were pretty cool.
And we also tried out the fanny pack that has room for an epi pen, inhaler, benadryl and kleenex when we went out of town recently. It is something that could easily be left with a teacher, coach or anyone with whom your child regularly comes into contact.
You can also by safe snack boxes, allergy alert stickers or even a personalized backpack.
What's nice about the products is they can all be tailored to your child's particular health issue: allergies, diabetes, celiac disease, asthma, or whatever you would need someone to know immediately to keep your child safe.
STAT Kids products can literally be a lifesaver. They are offering a discount for MWS readers. 10% off any purchase through November 30, 2007. Enter coupon code MWS2007 at checkout.
Ever feel like you need a mobile home with a trailer to carry around all the accoutrements, blankets and accessories of parenthood? Does the thought of carrying even one more blanket make you instinctively rub the ever-present ache in your dominant diaper bag shoulder? Wondering if you really need a dedicated nursing cover up?
With my last child, for the sake of keeping my daily load somewhat manageable, I did not invest in nursing cover ups. Which is why, in a public pinch, I would resort to using almost anything as a makeshift cover: a sweater, the baby's, blanket, an oversized napkin at the restaurant... Problem is, these items rarely stayed put. Next thing you know the baby was eating al fresco. Woops! So much for modesty/privacy.
I wondered whether I would break down this time around and invest in a nursing cover up. But as cute as some of them are, the idea of carrying (not to mention washing) yet another blanket, still bugs me.
And then I heard about Cover-Me clips from Little Carr. These handy and bulkless little items tuck into your pocket and take up very little room in a diaper bag. They embrace the "use what you have" philosophy, allowing you to turn the baby's blankie into your nursing cover up.
Cover-Me clips are not just practical. They are cute as well. They come in dots and striped patterns. Rest easy, If you are the sort of person who has to match or who must have a fully dedicated nursing blanket, Cover-Me makes perfectly adorable blankets to match their clips. Use the soft cotton flannel blankets for both baby and yourself.

This past weekend I had a bat mitzvah to attend. With my changing shape and four seperate dinner, brunch, reception, religious service occasions to dress up for over the weekend, I was worried about what to wear! Add in an 8 hour drive to get to the event, that the clothes would have to withstand, and it was a bit of a challenge to pack for myself. Lauren Kiyomi to the rescue!
I'm so impressed with Lauren Kiyomi's collection because it offers well made and tasteful basics that are easy to dress up or dress down to suit your needs. Everything is comfortable and classy. These are pieces that you know will form the basis of your maternity wardrobe and serve you well throughout your nine months and the transition period afterwards. The knits fold and travel well and the pants have just right amount of stretch for for comfort. But it's the pretty tops that really have won me over.
The star piece of my weekend trip was the Lacy Mommy Top (pictured above). This top is amazingly versatile and was worn by Dayna Devon on the air during her pregnancy. It's a great piece to wear with a skirt and a pashmina for a formal event. Or you could pair it with jeans to go out to dinner and a movie. It's a real wardrobe superstar, which will make you feel ready for almost anything. Equally attractive is the surplice/wrap top version of the top, which would make a great piece to wear to a holiday party.
Mommies with Style get ready for the holiday season! Save 20% off this top or the lacy surplice top when you enter coupon codes MWST13 (for the lacy top) and MWST53 (for the surplice top). Please note you will have to be registered on the Lauren Kiyomi shopping site to make use of these coupons.
Why waste a magnet when you can make your actual card magnetic itself? The unique selection of invitations and announcements from Cluu Design stick straight to the fridge.
I love it - it saves using an extra magnet and it gives the invites a nice clean look. Plus, the designs themselves are beautiful. They come with envelopes and don't cost extra to mail out.

Pinstripe Prep: Prep School Style Without the Snob-Factor
The following was written by guest reviewer Kate:
If you’re looking for something to spruce up those back-to-school pieces you bought a few months back, check out the Fall/Winter line from Pinstripe Prep. Based on the concept that every kid deserves to be “primped without looking pretentious”, Pinstripe Prep’s line of toddler and children’s wear combines equal parts comfort and class. For the lads, I like the V-neck Sweater with argyle detailing. Available in three colors and sizes 2T-10, throw one of these over jeans or khakis for an upcoming holiday get-together for instant style. Little ladies might like to shake off the cold with the solid-colored Convertible Polo highlighted with contrasting-colored sleeves and ribbed hems or the Knit Jacket which features a chic cross-over closure, chunky ribbed collar and zippered pockets.
Equally as enticing as their clothes is Pinstripe Prep’s commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices. An active member of 1% For the Planet, Pinstripe creates “country club couture” with socially conscious labor, recycling practices and support for community organizations.
Pinstripe Prep can be found at boutiques and specialty stores throughout the US, Canada and Australia, but as a pre-holiday treat, MWS readers can get free shipping through the end of the year on any order by contacting owner Jaime Coblentz directly (jamie@pinstripeprep.com ) and mentioning code “MWS-07”. And keep an eye out for their Spring/Summer ‘08 collection (available on the website in January 2008) – I had a chance to peak at some of the upcoming styles and you definitely don’t want to miss their spring-worthy hues and vastly expanded collection of tops, bottoms, and outwear.
Guest reviewer Kate Bayless has worked as a high school English teacher, data analyst, manuscript editor, and sippy cup tester. In between writing gigs and trips to the park, she fills her days with multi-act puppet shows, fierce battles with piles of laundry and trying to visualize the perfect color to paint her living room. Don’t you hate when your baby’s pacifier falls out of their mouth and you are left scrambling to find where it landed just so you can then put it back in their mouth only to have it fall out again and again? Well Binky Buddy to the rescue!
The Binky Buddy will become your new best friend. It keeps the pacifier from falling away from your baby’s mouth. It’s very easy to use! Just simply slide the holding ring part of the pacifier (it only works with holding ring pacifiers) behind the strap on the Binky Buddy and fasten the Velcro though the center of the pacifier ring. This allows the pacifier to stay put near your baby’s mouth. Therefore, when the pacifier falls out of your baby’s mouth, the Binky Buddy enables your baby to retrieve the pacifier without any help! It provides a soft and cuddly extension to the pacifier which helps your little one independently retrieve the pacifier. You can wrap it in a swaddle so there are no more sleepless nights! Also, you can put it in the car seat restraint which will help in the times when you dangerously have to reach back while driving in an attempt to find a lost pacifier! Best of all the Binky Buddy can be easily washed; simply remove the pacifier and machine wash in warm water and tumble dry! The Binky Buddy comes in both pink and green and ships for $1.00!
Save 10% by paying for your order and then e-mailing info@binkybuddyusa.com with the code MWS and the 10% will be refunded to you.
The Indian Summer that has struck the east coast has definitely been to my advantage: extra opportunity to enjoy all new gear! I recently took the Skip*Hop City Chic, along with my boys and a mod stroller, to the zoo. A bit fancy for a zoo day, it got quite a few second glances. And although it was fancy, I loved that it that it brushed clean, something the canvas Skip*Hops of old wouldn't have done, they'd have collected the dirt and needed a thorough washing.
The exterior, available in trendy, funky patterns, is mostly a soft vinyl, not shiny and thick (more like the exterior fabric of the Lexie Barnes). And to make it a bit more luxurious, you'll love the leather... yes, real leather, on these Skip*Hops. A bit of detail is embellished in leather, as well as the base and tote straps--which are thin, round and stay on the shoulder surprisingly well.
The detachable wristlet, though a little big for me, was so handy for places (like our beloved reptile house) that aren't stroller-friendly. My huge wallet, my camera. lipstick and phone all fit, albeit snuggly, inside. It looks tres' chic attached to the bag, too. It clips off to be a wristlet or a shoulder bag and if you're in a hurry and don't want to reclip it to the bag (which doesn't take long at all, but it takes too long for a running toddler at a busy zoo) it fits nicely into the interior of the bag.
In addition to the fabulously organized interiors that Skip*Hop is loved for, they also kept the outside cup holders (3 cheers!!). These look nicer than the mesh bags of the canvas Skip*Hops, and they hold cups firmly. I fit my drink in an exterior pocket without a lot of spillage (gotta give a little credit to the suspension on my stroller) while chasing the kids at the Children's Zoo. What's so nice about these holders, versus the mesh, is that they're sturdier because of the vinyl--so the cups and bottles fit in and out with one hand, no need to open the area with hand number 2.
An addition to the Skip*Hops of before, the City Chic has feet! About a cm (maybe smaller?) off the ground. It stays upright and steady. Another standout is that this Skip*Hop has a zipper at the top. This is an upgraded Skip*Hop, they upgraded the zipper, rings and attachments to silver metal. Speaking of attachments, gone are the days of pinching fingers while attaching your Skip*Hop to a stroller handle. The City Chic has a thinner, yet still-sturdy piece and which is attached with a metal spring hook and ring.
I'm impressed. We're not talking absolute luxury, but a sharp look on a proven and beloved design. A definite upgrade. People know the Skip*Hop, they come back to it again and again for a reason. They like Skip*Hop bags convenience, organization and durability. And didn't let that go. Its all still there, just shilded. (From the exterior, I wouldn't even know it was a Skip-Hop, the label is so low-key I had to search to find it.)
Due in November (deep breath... its only a few days away), you'll soon find the City Chic at Skip*Hop's own webpage, as well as many favorite local and online boutiques.
This set's made for trips out to dinner. How many times have we all been out to dinner at a restaurant trying to make the salt and pepper shaker appear entertaining? I've definitely been there done that and although I always have a goal of bringing along some sort of goal or means of entertaining my kids, it doesn't always happen.
The On-the-Go Activity Set comes in a nifty little plastic carry tote. Inside, you'll find a set of 4 crayons and a stack of activity papers to keep your kids amused. Games like Tic-Tac-Toe and pages to color are just examples of some of the things included inside. It's basically a booklet full of what you'd find on the back of a kids' menu. (Which is nice - because everyone knows that those kids' menu games are good for about 5 minutes before they move onto looking for something else)
You can buy it on Precious Personalities. Order 3 or more and receive a 15% discount (no coupon necessary) OR use code MWS10 and receive a 10% discount.
I think all moms love wearing jewelry to show off their children's names. Practically every mom I know wears a silver circle around her neck with her kids names. Very pretty, but not very unique.
That's why I love the jewelry from BeadifulBaby. BeadifulBaby hand-creates beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces customized to your preferences.
I got to try the Stylin' in Black Onyx bracelet which is really pretty and very substantial. You can tell that it is very well-made and every detail is taken into account. I love that it is classy yet chic looking. And of course, it has the names of my two precious sons. I got to choose the number of strands, the colors, Swarovski Crystals, style of lettering, charm, and clasp type. I love that I can customize everything to my taste!
BeadifulBaby also makes gorgeous "My First Pearl" bracelets. (If only I had a girl. *Sigh!*) What a special gift for your little girl! I also love the Princess necklaces and bracelets as well as lots of other great styles for mom, grandmom, child and baby.
Make any purchase and use promo code MWS10 for 10% off your order total. This offer expires 11.15.07. With every purchase you receive free shipping, gift packaging, and gift cards, too!
This is a safety recall, the item is actually not being recalled, but it is recommened you call for a safety label that it should be used on the ground, with adult supervision, only. There have been several falls reported, including 3 skull fractures.
This one falls in the so gross it's great category. After all the recent reports about how alcohol based hand sanitizers are not especially safe to have around little ones, I stopped carrying them. But there are times when you are out and about, at the playground for instance, and your little cutie comes clambering up to you with mystery muck all over their cute little digits. Not a sink in sight. That is when some Momspit is called for.
And by that, I do not mean you should actually spit on your child. That would be disgusting. Momspit in a bottle is not. Even though the slightly foamy formula looks a little bit like the real thing I assure you it is not. It's clean. It cleanses without any need for a rinse. And it smells fresh. And it is gentle - gentle enough to even use on your child's face. Which you'll give a cheer about if you have a kid with a penchant for chocolate ice cream or ketchcup with everything.
We tried Momspit on our kids, ourselves and the kids of several friends. It did at least as well as actual spit when it came to dirt removal sans soap and water. It leaves a slightly sticky feeling initially, but we found that this faded after a few minutes, leaving skin feeling moisturized. It also did not irritate my kids' sensitive skin. I would never use an alcohol based hand sanitizer on my kids' faces.
While I don't think that Momspit kills as many germs as hand sanitizer does, it does have anti bacterial properties, (according to the site) and it does get the grunge off. Which is a great thing when you are far from soap and water.
Momspit comes in handy purse sized dispensers and three scent versions: Fig and Green Tea, Lemon and White Tea and Unscented. Check the website for where to purchase.
Here's how me and my shoe habits go each summer into fall: I'll have spent the summer in several pairs of totally comfortable and carefree J Crew flip flops. They get wet at the pool, sand at the beach and generally worn down to the point that everyone around me is probably rejoicing then fall arrives and I have to wear something other than flip flops.
September will roll around and I'm forced to sadly put away the worn out (although comfortable) flip flops so I can go to closed toe. I usually start wearing fall shoes and end up with blisters, or I'll be uncomfortable in the least.
If I have to give up my comfy flip flops, I'm happy to at least turn to boots. Because I love boots for the fall. I've been shopping around and hadn't found anything I loved until I found this pair of boots - the Bristol boot - from Ecco. (yes, the same maker of children's shoes - I did not know they made for women & men as well.)
I thought these would be totally uncomfortable. I didn't care. I had one of those "I'm being totally irrational and wearing them anyway because they look hot" moments and walked out the door.
And I'm happy to report - they have to be the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. Yes, even with that pointy heel. They're chic and comfortable -- what's not to love? The leather is really soft and pliable and if I can't wear flip flops through the snow, I'm appeased to wear these.
Everytime we take a trip I am torn between the urge to pack a separate toiletries bag for baby or just throw the baby stuff in with my own. Honestly I hate to give up my own shampoo space so I am very happy that Debbie Rott has come out with her Baby on the Go Gloria bag.
The Gloria bag is crafted of buttery soft leather with a groovy printed waterproof lining and cute ducky key fob on the zipper pull. The versatile size is just perfect for travel but you could also use it for organizing essentials inside your daily diaper bag. It also makes a great car kit for emergency diaper change situations. It's a bag that you will enjoy using every time because of the fine leather and great quality - at $38 it is a nice little luxury for any mom.
I love that this is one bag we'll use for years to come. Even after diaper days are over, it is perfect for travel, for sleepovers, etc. Mommies with Style enjoy free shipping with the coupon code FREESHIP at Babystud.com.
More and more these days I find I am drawn to organic infant clothes. Especially when they are as soft, classic and luxurious feeling as the ones in the Lucky Elephant collection from Sama Baby Organics. Sama Baby garments are made in India from the finest certified organic cottons and dyed with earth friendly dyes. Why is this important? Organic fibers (such as organic cotton) are not altered with harmful pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Also, they do not use genetically modified seed. On the other hand, conventional cotton farming is one of the most heavily polluted industries in the world, which negatively affects our planet, our food, and our bodies.
For a fresh start, check out the clothing and accessories on the Samababy website. Mommies with Style readers use the code MWS5 to get a $5 gift certificate towards your purchase of $20 or more, now through December 31.
I got the Grandinroad catalog in the mail recently. I hadn't heard of it before but liked a lot of the products in the catalog so I went to check them out online. They are a sister company to Frontgate.
Anyway, I ordered a few items last night. I scoped out a coupon for 20% off the entire store and used it successfully. It expires end of the day today but check out their site - they have some gorgeous wall art, furniture and more. Supposedly the coupon works for Frontgate too.

No matter the sport you pleasure, you're likely to find your favorite team represented in a child-friendly DVD. Narrated by a famous fan, Team Baby Entertainment's DVDs feature babies and children decked out in fan-gear, real-life scenes of players having fun and working hard, as well as introductions to all things sport.
In Team Baby's baseball series, the children will learn colors, words shapes and numbers, as they pertain to baseball. For example, in the Red Sox video, Ben Affleck narrates as we learn that there are 9 players on the field, and 9 innings. Each DVD includes cheers, songs, and an introduction to the game and locale.
The perfect gift for the Uber-fan's baby, Team Baby Entertainment is officially lisenced by the MLB, NBA, NCAA, and Nascar. Since I learned of them this summer, their line-up has grown, and their latest baby: New York Knicks Baby, is soon-to-be released.

Just in time for the holidays... Meet the Robinsons releases on DVD today. A great movie and a great stocking stuffer, this is one of those movies that's an all-play for the whole family. We went to see it when it was in theatre and it was good for us, good for our 3.5 year old and even good for the baby. (Who alternated between watching and nursing, but hey, it worked and we got to spend two hours in a movie theatre! That's a feat for us these days.)
It's a cute movie that involves an orphan, time travel and a battle to save the future of the world. Buy it on Amazon starting today for $16.99 (free ship with a $25+ purchase). Definitely think this one is a great holiday pick - it's a good stocking stuffer for the kids!

There is not much softer than organic cotton. Really, I don't know what they do to that cotton to make it so soft, but I seem to wear my organics more often than any others. And knowing how much I adore the clothing, enlightens my search for soft organics for my kids.
When I was introduced to bioME5, I was instantly impressed. With kid-friendly appeal, these environmentally-friendly shirts combine natural living, lively design and a thirst for learning. Each shirt features an animal that matches its letter, and the name of the animal spelled out upside down... so the wearer is the reader, something you don't see often in this age of graphic ts.
