I remember the days leading up to the beginning of the new school year. We got so excited about our new school supplies, new teacher, new classroom, even the new homework. It was fun to get back in the swing of things. My favorite subject by far was English. I love to read.

hands down my favourite subject was math -- the answers were either right or wrong, no middle ground (at least not at that level), no arguments.

My favotite was art. It didn't feel like school.
Posted by: Nikki | August 20, 2008 01:50 PM
I absolutely loved art history in 5th grade. My friend's mom was a curator at our local museum and volunteered to teach art history to us. Fun!

My favorite subject was math. I used to take 3 or 4 math classes per semester in high school (math, math team, math sat prep...)

I'm going back to school full time at the ripe old age of 32. My daughter is 7 months and I hope that I can teach her how important education is. Of course, now that I've quit my job a free backpack would be super helpful!

my favorite experience was 2nd grade science fair! I knew my project was the best, but I was placed 2nd to the cutest guy in school so I didnt mind!

Oh, English by far. I started keeping a list of the books I read in 4th grade. I still keep the list and love to look back over all the books I've read from childhood until the present.

Definitely math. I went on to major in civil engineering but now I use those high level skills I learned on my two sons!
Posted by: Adrienne B | August 20, 2008 09:55 PM
It was a math/science toss up for me! But then I guess they could kind of be considered the same subject much of the time. :)
Posted by: Kati | August 20, 2008 11:25 PM
I always enjoyed science. My favorite course of all times was in college, Embryology.
Posted by: Liz | August 21, 2008 12:05 AM
I enjoyed a lot of subjects: instrumental music, geography, science. But in grade 12 I *loved* math. I don't know why. In any case, I was inspired to take grade 13 calculus (where I went to school, grade 13 was required for university admission) in summer school. The whole course in 4 weeks. The first class, the teacher leaned on his desk, chuckled meanly, and announced, "Five hours a day of math; your worst nightmare." Indeed, whatever crazy love I'd developed for math in grade 12 was long over by the time I sat the final calculus exam!

I loved algebra. I know, I'm strange... :) But I had a great teacher and she made it "click" for me. And there was something satisfying in solving for "y".

English and drama were always my favorite classes. I suppose that's why I am now a reading and writing teacher in a middle school (i.e. academics plus never-ending drama).

Mine was Spanish, and boy I am lucky I did well in that class because hubby is from Guatemala and I wouldn't be able to talk very much to him if I didn't study Spanish in school! Everyone thought it was funny that a girl from a French-Canadian family living in Maine would be taking Spanish, but it certainly came in handy now, didn't it?

I loved art class! One of my fondest memories is winning an art contest in kinder about self portraits. I drew myself looking out a window, and i was one of the winners. It got hung in the hall of my elementary school. Some 20 years later, and it's still there! (Wonder if i can ask to keep it! LOL)

I always liked English, because it was easy for me and I got A's on my papers. I dreaded PE and would spend most of the period hiding in the outfield during kickball and praying the ball wouldn't head toward me.
Posted by: Carey Waye | August 27, 2008 05:30 PM
I loved my english literature class. I could curl up with a good book for hours and hours and hours! Although my "me" time is very limited nowadays, that's still my #1 go-to when I have a few minutes to myself!

9th grade History - lots of movies were shown, though all I saw were the insides of my eyelids!

I loved music. It gave me an excuse to sing in public!
Posted by: Jeraldine Orlina | August 27, 2008 05:37 PM
My favorite subject was music in elementary school. I went to school in S.F. and there was not a dedicated classroom for our weekly music class. We met in an alcove in the cafeteria. I still remember the smell of mac and cheese and the dreaded fish sticks as we made our way through the cafeteria. Only on the days that they were serving roasted turkey and mashed potatoes, did I look forward to music class!

Hmm...just one favorite subject? I think I would need to choose science. I loved learning about the world around me, especially about the habitats and animals and how every living thing interacts with one another. I learned very early on how our actions impact the rest of the world around us, my 3rd grade teacher had me recycling early on!

I really loved art. It was so exciting to see what projects our teacher had come up with each class and I always felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment because it had a definite ending. My grandfather was an artist and it's exciting to see my own daughter also throwing herself into art projects.

Recycle? Reuse? Those were not terms I was familiar with when I went to school. Then I only wanted new things...Now I try to be a lot more aware of my purchases of school supplies for my kids. I look for information about where those supplies were made and what kinds of materials they are made. Of course I do not buy all products from companies that believe in producing sustainable products, but I try as much as I can to support them. Every bit helps!
