Add a little bling to your diaper bag and clutch

Here are some fun diaper bag and diaper clutch designs by Danielle Elizabeth. Her designs involve ribbons and rhinestones and add a little pizazz to your every day baby essentials.

The bags and accessories are made of 100% cotton and are machine washable. I checked out the clutch, which comes with a zipper on the outside for extras, a fold out oilcloth changing pad and an inside zipper pocket for diapers and wipes.

Baby Chic: One-on-One with Petunia Pickle Bottom

I’ve been a fan of Petunia Pickle Bottom’s diaper bags for years and fell in love with them all over again a few years ago when they came out with a line of socks (the only ones that would stay on my newborn). Their headquarters is located in my hometown of Ventura, CA so I made a few calls to set up an interview with DeNai Jones and Korie Conant, the style savvy moms behind the brand, for a tour of their offices and a sneak peak at what’s new from PPB.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With a brick façade and wood framed windows, the Petunia offices feel every bit as stylish as their bags. Enter through the glass doors and the open office floor plan resonates with a casual warmth from the PPB employees. The exposed wooden beams, brick walls and concrete floors create the feel of an urban loft, softened by carefully placed vintage baby décor.

DeNai Jones, founder, owner and creative genius behind the brand’s bags, fabrics and fashions, sits in the design studio, surrounded by color schemes, fabric samples, inspiration boards and product models. Down a short set of wide-paneled wooden steps, Korie Conant, owner, vice president and director of brand development, works in a glass office accessorized with sleek, modern furnishings, Petunia bags, past and present, and an ever-changing glazed-glass marker border of the company’s current and upcoming projects.

IMG_1949.jpg

I sat down with the two entrepreneurs for a one-on-one chat about the company’s history, hype and hot new products.

MWS: PPB has been around since 2000. How has the company changed since then?

DeNai Jones: Well for starters, we don’t work out of my parents’ garage anymore.

Korie Conant: We did come from humble beginnings. Two hand-me-down desks for us bigwigs and inventory in Rubbermaid bins on the floor. We would spend the first half of our day on the “backend” of the business (design, customer service, sales, marketing and production) and the second half of our day packing orders. We would end our day packing our cars full of boxes and driving over to UPS.

D: A stark contrast to what we are today: 3,000 square foot office with 20 corporate employees, 24 sales reps across the country and worldwide distribution to over 1500 retailers.

K: The day I realized we were no longer a little fledgling company was when a new employee asked us for an “Employee Handbook.” Whaa huh? I remember thinking, yeah; I guess we need one of those!

D: Some things haven’t changed though. One of the things I’m proudest of is our consistent attention to detail that permeates throughout our brand and product line.

K: Also the “family” we have been able to build. We have an amazing work environment and wonderful employees who feel like an extension of our family. We place a high premium on employee satisfaction and I think that shows in the quality of our products as well. We are only as good as the people we have around us.

MWS: What is something most people would be surprised to learn about PPB?
K: That we launched an innovative product for parents and grew a successful business in the children’s industry all well before we had children. Neither of us had children until just two years ago—PPB was our first baby.

MWS: How were you able to know what moms wanted and create diaper bags that met moms’ fashion and function needs?
D: The original idea developed when I was looking for a baby shower gift for a friend and couldn’t find a diaper bag that combined the functionality a mom needs with the beautiful fabrics and shapes available in other women’s bags. Our diaper bags have definitely developed over time but the original idea was merely seeing a hole in the market and taking the risk.

K: When PPB was born there was nothing on the market that married fashion and function. Over time and by listening to our PPB fans, we feel like we offer our customers everything they need in a diaper bag.

D: Now being moms ourselves has also definitely shaped how we look at design, function and style. It’s no longer a theoretical conversation we have as to what’s practical, useful and chic for moms today.

MWS: Have a favorite PPB bag/product?
K: We’ve both been carrying our new Cosmopolitan Carryall and are excited that it finally hits stores this month. The shape is inspired by traditional doctor bags and the European cut velvet available on all our Cake Collection bags give the Carryall a classic, vintage feel.

D: I’m also a huge fan of our organic socks trios. With both of my sons, I’ve also relied on them for staying on tiny newborn feet and standing up to the wiggles and squirms of a crawler.

MWS: How or where do you get inspiration for new bags and fabrics?

D: Inspiration comes from all aspects of life, but first and foremost would have to be travel. It’s high on my list for both relaxation and design inspiration and provides countless instances of beauty and intrigue. I also have a file that we slip wonderful things in all year. It could be the cover of a magazine, the wrapping from a European chocolate bar someone sent us or a piece of vintage wallpaper we picked up from the flea market. Then, when it comes to designing a collection of fabrics or bags we regularly refer to this bulging file to gather inspiration.

MWS: The two of you have known each other since high school. How does being friends influence your work relationship?
D: Our friendship always comes first. I believe it helps us compromise and work through things because we do care and love one another. Though we do have our days…

K: Early on, when people would find out that we were friends going into business together we would get some raised eyebrows. I guess they had heard too many horror stories of friendships gone awry this way, but I can honestly say we did not have reservations. Maybe we were foolish not too, but from day one we decided this: we are friends first, business partners second. We make it a practice to get together on weekly basis and NOT discuss the business. It takes work and a little extra effort to not let work weasel its way into our time together…but it’s worth it. What could be better than designing beautiful things with a lifelong friend?

MWS: Can you give us any sneak peaks at what's new at PPB?
K: Our Serenity and Sojourn Slings are hitting stores soon and our design team is in the process of creating a collection of stunning fabrics for our fall release. Keep an eye on our webpage or subscribe to our blog for all the latest Petunia news, sightings and giveaways.

A tribute to my Kate Spade wallet that has seen better days after today

So after decades of carrying all sorts of bags, I finally find the perfect wallet. I was looking for something that zipped closed (my last wallet was constantly "leaking" change into the bottom of my diaper bag.)

I found what I wanted and more in this Kate Spade wallet (officially called the "vachetta clinton street neda" - I challenge you to say that 10 times fast without tripping up). Not only does it have a separate change section in the middle of the wallet that zips closed, but the entire wallet zips closed around everything. And I love the organization of it all: 12 credit card slots and two sections for bills.

So I found it at Macy's but you can order it online on the Kate Spade site. Of course, the reason I even thought to blog about this today is that I left one of Cole's bottles upside down in my diaper bag awhile I was in class at the gym this morning. So an hour later after I returned to my locker, I found it had leaked all over the bag, the wallet and all of Nate's swim clothes -- the poor kid now smells like soy milk and chlorine. Oh well, one of only many Mommy casualties I've had along the way. (Fingers crossed it dries out okay!)

Reese Li Diaper Bags Marry Practical with Chic

ReeselilexingtonbagYou spend your days with kids. Food is flung. Drinks are spilled. Diapers are changed. Lots and lots of diapers. And you are prepared, organized, and ready for action. Plus, your bag always looks great. Because it can be wiped clean. It's all about the bag. Having the right one for the job, is the key.

Right now I am using and loving this eminently wipeable Lexington Baby Bag from Reese Li, in the Black Geo pattern ($150). It's fresh, simple, fabulously mod and it looks great no matter what my darling offspring fling at it or spill on it. It's also incredibly organized -- a pocket lover's dream come true.

The Reese Li Lexington Baby Bag is 14'' wide x 11.5'' tall x 5.5'' deep. It stands on its own and retains it's boxy shape when you reach inside. It also stays clean on the bottom, since it rests on metal feet. The Lexington Baby Bag can be carried as a shoulder tote, using the adjustable straps, but I prefer it as a dedicated stroller bag. The straps feature clips that make attaching and detaching the bag a snap no matter what your stroller.

Reeselilextingtonbag2_2 Inside and out the Lexington Baby Bag has an impressive total of 12 organizing pockets that break down as follows: 2 outside side pockets for water or bottles, 1 outside slip pocket in back that fit a magazine or other papers, 6 inside multipurpose bottle/diaper/wipes pockets, 1 large zippered interior pocket for valuables, 1 cell phone pocket, and 1 pen pocket. There is also a key clip, a waterproof dirty duds zippered pouch and a changing pad that come with. The dirty duds pouch is clear -- a thoughtful touch because I actually like to see what is in there -- nothing worse that stashing and then rediscovering a dirty outfit two weeks later, is there?

The exterior and interior of the bag are waterproof, so leaks, spills etc are never a problem. It's also nice to know that this bag is sized just right for a computer. Because it is so durable that I am pretty sure it will outlive the baby days and I would not want to ditch it! All Reese Li bags are sweatshop free -- made in the USA.

The Reese Li Lexington Baby Bag hanging on my stroller made me feel like I was at the helm of mommy command central. Not only was I perfectly stocked, but I was perfectly organized. Which is a very good feeling when you have food being flung at you, drinks being spilled on you, and yet another diaper to change.

Baby Sparewear is There for You!

Sparewear_2It happens to the best babies. The public blowout, the sudden spit up, the mashed potato mess. And though you try and prepare yourself for the inevitable, it's easy to get caught out without a change of clothes. Even veteran diaper bag packers such as myself have been known to dress their poor soiled babies in little more than a paper napkin and rush home for a change. For shame!

The problem I had in the past was not having a designated disaster preparedness kit like the one that Baby Sparewear so excellently puts together. Sure I have been known to toss an extra tee in the bag, but then my husband uses it and I forget to check when I head out on the next trip and we all know this story has a baby wearing a paper napkin at the end, right? And do you like how I blamed my husband?

The Baby Sparewear kit ($30-$52) comes pre-packed in it's own handy little pouch. Inside you get two tops and a bottom. The clothing is soft and thin and the packed pouch is stylish, sleek and unbulky.Toss one of these in your diaper bag or stash one in your glove compartment and you are good to go. No more leaving the house unprepared. And just to be on the safe side around my stash-raiding hubby, I'm going to be sure to pack a spare Baby Sparewear set in the daddy bag. We currently have the Fashion Fix Cordura Chic set in sky blue ($52). My only concern about it is that the clothes are so soft and adorable that I find myself half hoping the baby will barf on himself so I can change him into them. A little twisted, no?

Several celebs are fans and users of Baby Sparewear. Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie have the Fashion Fix kit in Silver Nightlife ($42) with the chic black 3-piece set. Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony have the same Fashion Fix kits in the Cordura Chic sky blue tie-dye ($52) as well as the blush pink heart($52) for their twins. Salma Hayek is also well prepared for her jet-setting life with a Fashion Fix kit in pink and fuchsia ($42) for little Valentina.

You'll wow them with an Amy Kathryn bag on your shoulder

I have a confession to make: I'm so tired of the diaper bag thing. Four years later, and I'm so over it. I used to be like, "hey check me out - I'm a Mom!!"

Now I want to hide my caffeine hangover under a pair of big Jackie-O sunglasses and be in disguise when I'm out and about. (No, really, I just want to strip away the diapers, the bag, and run barefoot in the grass with only a wallet in my back pocket and a bottle of Pinot Grigio somewhere within reach.)

So shaking off that none of that is going to happen anytime soon, I've been turning towards very untraditional looking bags and diaper bags. For those of you looking to do the same, check out Amy Kathryn Bags. Jen has reviewed her bags before and I've recently been turned onto Amy's bags. I love the look and the style - they're totally different and fun. Plus they're both animal and eco-friendly.

Check out her stuff. And use coupon code MWS20 to receive 20% off your order plus free shipping.

There are several reasons I love this bag

1. It looks chic
2. It works for babies! There are ample organizational pockets, interior and exterior pockets, changing pad and a wipes case
3. It works for moms! with an interior fleece pocket ideal for MP3s, cells and sunglasses, an ear-bud "pass-thru badge" and a key clip
4. It works for the Earth! The creation of each bag uses 10 600 mL water bottles, keeping them from landfills. The bottles are also used to create the changing pad

So, you're dying to know, right? Which??

The bag that works so well happens to be by Fleurville: The ReRun Messenger. Created in the same style of Fleurville's original Messenger, the Re-Run retails for only $89.95.

It includes an adjustable shoulder strap and a the fabric feels canvas-y--there's no vinyl overlay to make the bag hard. A much lighter bag, I'm amazed at how comfortable the Re-Run Messenger is to carry. And a company of style, Fleurville topped their Earth-stylin' bag with a silk-screened botanical print.

Its Earth Week. I'm proud to carry the bag now. And proud to carry it any day. Looks good. Does good.

Pure Gold! Nap-Sac by Lilly Gold

napsac.gif I recently took my 2-month old son on a weekend visit to see a girlfriend in Seattle. The plane ride was only a little over two hours, but since I was traveling by myself, I worried about carrying all the stuff the weekend would require. My clothes, his clothes, umbrella (it is Seattle), diapers, wipes, noise machine, pack-n-play, stroller, car seat…I had visions of the looks of sympathy I would receive trying to lug all this and a kid through the airport by myself. Then two fortuitous events occurred: first, my girlfriend was able to borrow a car seat which allowed me to leave the car seat and the stroller at home; second, I met the Nap-Sac. In my life as a product-tester, there have been very few products I have come across that truly have blown me away – the Nap-Sac by Lilly Gold definitely makes the list. Instead of being burdened by luggage and gear, I traveled with one suitcase, my son in a Bjorn and the Nap-Sac for my weekend away.

The Nap-Sac is a combined diaper bag, changing station and portable bassinet. Unfolded, it works as a four-sided bassinet with a padded bottom and two zebra-print sheets. Collapse the sides in, zip it up and fold the bag in half and it’s easily carried over the shoulder or messenger-style across the body. Made of durable nylon canvas, the bag is surprisingly light, even with all six of the expandable pockets packed full. It doubled as my purse and was able to carry everything my son and I needed on the plane including my wallet, cosmetic case, reading material, extra clothes, diapers, wipes, and blankets.

My first test of the Nap-Sac came in the airport bathroom for a quick change of my son’s blow-out diaper (moments before boarding the plane, of course). Easy to set-up and access diapers and wipes in the surrounding pockets, I was especially thankful for the one waterproof, zippered pocket to contain his soiled outfit. Once on the plane, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it fit nearly perfectly across the airplane seats (I did have a whole row to myself). This allowed for easy in-seat in-flight diaper changes and a place for me to put my son down when he eventually tired of peek-a-boo with the seatmate behind us. If this wasn’t convenient enough, in all of the pockets surrounding my sleeping child, I had everything I needed, easy to reach and close at hand. Swaddle blanket? Check. Magazine? Lip gloss? No prob. Extra socks or binky? Right here. No rifling through multiple bags. No pulling items out of overhead storage. Though it helped that my son made nary a peep the whole time, the Nap-Sac made my flight almost enjoyable. Once we arrived at our destination, my son happily called the Nap-Sac home for his naps and nighttime slumber. I was glad to have him safe and contained for sleeping and cutting out the weight and set-up of a pack-n-play made traveling simpler, lighter and easier.

The Nap-Sac is the brainchild of mother, grandmother and entrepreneur Lilly Gold. Motivated by the birth of her first grandchild and the sub-par quality of the available kid’s gear she saw, Gold began developing a number of innovative multi-tasking products to make life with kids-especially traveling with kids-easier. “My team and I develop the products that every parent looks for-products that fill a need while having multiple uses-getting the most for their money and not sacrificing safety or design,” says Gold. “The Nap-Sac came about after I took my granddaughter to a Neiman Marcus Last Call Sale as an infant. She was on the floor of the dressing room on a blanket amongst the pins. At the same time I realized how dirty the pull down changing tables in the public bathrooms were. I went home and designed a diaper bag that would hold her safely on floors, chairs, tables, or changing surfaces.”

So say goodbye to lugging around a pack-n-play. Bid adieu to carrying a separate travel bed, diaper bag and changing pad. Whether you’re visiting grandma by plane or just going across the street for dinner with friends, the Nap-Sac in red or black is a must-have for making traveling with young infants easier. Also check out the Nap-Sac Backpack in black or camo that allows you to carry the bag as a shoulder bag or backpack.

Lilly Gold is offering Mommies With Style readers 10% off listed prices and free shipping if you order any Lilly Gold products (including her award-winning Sit ‘n’ Stroll) through www.lillygold.com and enter code “Stylemoms08”. Pick one up now for all your spring and summertime travels.

TOMTotes: Discreet and chic products

So once you have kids, I think your definition of "embarrassing" when it comes to body functions gets redefined. Whether it's maturity or necessity that warrants this change is up for debate, but I know in my own case, it takes a whole heck of a lot these days to really phase me when it comes to anything regarding body parts, the potty or anything coming out my kids noses.

That said, I'm not exactly a shy person - and two kids, two c-sections and dozens of doctors and whoever else later, I've become a little numb to the concept of modesty. It doesn't exactly phase me to whip a tampon out in the middle of some public venue. But don't get me wrong, it is nice to actually have a little privacy and be discreet when you are given the opportunity.

So here's one product that allows you do that when it comes to that time of the month: TOMTotes. It's a tiny product for tampons and pads and you'd never know what it was by looking at it. (I tested out the tampon one by asking some Moms what it was and they didn't know.)

TOM stands for "time of the month" and they offer two products, one for tampons and one for panty liners. Cut to fit each product, they tie nicely and are so small they tuck away in the smallest of pockets inside of your bag. Use coupon code FREESHIP for free shipping on your order on the site. Orders on the site are wholesale only, but you can order by emailing dawn@lexiebdesigns.com. Each product is $12.00 retail.

On-the-go diapering!

emmabluediaperclutch.jpgI love diaper clutches since they are great for quick trips. The functionality is key. If it can store diapers, wipes, diaper cream, and can be attached to my stroller, than I am thrilled! Well, I got really excited when I found one that not only had all of these features and more but that also happens to be so beautiful and classy looking!

The Clairebella Diaper Clutch is perfect for on-the-go travel or used more frequently in your diaper bag. It easily unfolds into a changing mat, with three pockets inside (1 larger and 2 smaller) to store several diapers, wipes, keys and it still has room for more! There is no need to worry about the outside or any other part of the Diaper Clutch getting dirty or wet because it is fully laminated for easy cleaning (I think my favorite feature)! It measures a generous 30"L x 11 1/2"W when unfolded. It includes a detachable wrist strap that has Velcro on one end - perfect for attaching it to your diaper bag, stroller or wrist. At the other end, it has a clasp which is great for attaching to keys!

Take a look at the gorgeous styles it comes in. I think I want one in every color to match my ever changing diaper bags!

Skip Hop's new Via Backpack

My friend Rachael converted me to the virtues of carrying a backpack. I'd always been a backpack-on-the-plane kind of Mom but wasn't an every day one. But I can definitely see the appeal in every day backpack wearing in lieu of the traditional diaper bag. For one thing, being hands-free is key.

So I was definitely interested to hear that Skip Hop was coming out with a new bag - the Via Backpack.

Here are some cool features that the Via Backpack has worth noting:

  • two mesh bottle pockets on either side
  • a separate, easy-access section for diapers and wipes. The Via has this right in front.
  • select from the following colors: Black, Red, Gray or Green
  • The price is right. It'll be selling for $70.00, which is a nice change from the typical $100+ diaper bag.
  • matching stroller clips
  • it zips open and lays flat for a handy changing station.

You can buy it on the Skip Hop site.

15% off The Diaper Clutch

diaperclutch2.jpgI reviewed The Diaper Clutch last year. Its been such a great product for me to have in my bag. The Diaper Clutch is a diaper holder with a built-in wipes holder. I love it because its compact all-in-one design which is particularly key for me. Since I no longer carry a diaper bag, just an over-sized purse, it fits nicely inside with plenty of room to spare. I can easily fit 2 diapers and a disposable changing pad along with the wipes. And, as an added bonus, it comes in pretty fabrics.

It’s a great time to try it out. They have added so many new styles and currently their limited edition styles are being offered at a reduced price. If thats not enough reason to check them out, The Diaper Clutch is offering MWS readers an additional 15% off just use code MWS. The limited editions are only available while supplies last.

Baby Sherpa Bags are for the Long Haul!

sherpa.gif In the world of diaper bags, Baby Sherpas are the true professionals. You may feel comfortable with an amateur bag for a quick trip to Starbucks. But for that all day outing at the zoo? Or that 11 hour trip back east to see Grandma? Well then it's time to pack it all up in a hardworking backpack style bag. It's time to reach for a real performer that was inspired by the climbers of Mt Everest.

Baby Sherpa bags were designed with some serious parenting in mind. No convenience has been overlooked. Dads love this bag too because there is a place for everything and it does not make them look like a dork who is digging through their wife's purse. They can appreciate that this bag is not for wimps and it means business. Celeb dads Brad Pitt and Tiger Woods are fans of this bag. The functional features and ways you can make this bag work are almost too numerous to list, but I'm here to give you a basic tour.

Get Rowdy with these new funky diaper bags!

rowdy.jpg Who says your style has to change when you have a baby? Not Rowdy Products, who is making mom friendly diaper bags that combine style and performance. Their look is a little edgy and urban-girly but these bags are made to perform. I checked out their Croc Bowler and found it quite up to the challenge of a busy day out with kids.

At first glance the Croc Bowler by Rowdy Products looks like a petite piece of vintage luggage. The deep red mock croc is luxe-y looking and black tassels and trim give it a polished look. The bag is a satchel style and can be carried by short handles or worn messenger style with the addition of an included adjustible, removeable strap. The bag exterior is made from a low maintenance manmade material, and defies rain or baby mess. Metal feet on the underside ensure that it stands alone and minimizes scuffs to the bottom of the bag.

This satchel is quite roomy - large enough to hold a change of clothes, diapers, wipes, a baby's bottle and some water for you, as well as a few toys and extra items. I even got a small blanket in there with all that. It's eminently stuffable yet manages not to make you look like you are emigrating to the mommyland with your baby suitcase. This is a welcome thing for petite moms who are often overwhelmed by larger diaper bags.

Fans of pockets will dig this bag, and dig less when using it. Inside the bag are three appropriately sized mesh pockets to organize your cell, diapers and wipes. A zipped pocket secures valuables. There is a clip for your keys and an insulated bottle holder (sized to hold a variety of bottle styles) and a slim waterproof changing pad is also included. Side pockets on the outside keep your binkies, breathmints and other essentials close at hand. There is also a zippered compartment on the back of the outside of the bag (with a cute tassel on the zip pull).

The niftiest compartment on the bag however, is not exactly a compartment at all. Lift the front outer flap and you find there is a removeable clutch purse attached to the bag. This is the perfect place to put all your essential mommy stuff, so you do not have to carry the whole bag with you every time you run a quick errand. The clutch snaps & clips securely onto the bag and the bag looks great whether you have the clutch attached or not.

Perhaps the most mommy friendly aspect of these bags is that the entire lining of the bag is waterproof. And to make it easy to clean, the lining is also completely removeable. There is an inner lining underneath. With the baby-bag lining removed, the Rowdy Products Croc Bowler easily transitions into your work or gym bag.

As much as I love my luxury leather diaper bags, it's really nice to have a bag that does not need to be pampered almost as much as my child. The Rowdy Products Croc Bowler manages to look chic while performing like a work horse. It's sturdy and well constructed and sure to stand up to the abuse of life in and out of the car, the park, etc. There will be no need for tears when the baby spits up on it, because it will still look great.

Rowdy Products Croc Bowler bags retail for $109.99 and are available at the Rowdy Products website. Check out their other bags as well. We also love their Ragged Pad for quick changes and to leave in the car. At only $31.99, and available in chocolate brown and khaki it makes a thoughtful gift for new dads.

Whitney's Top Ten from 2007

This year's been a big one for me. I entered it with an infant and I'm leaving it with a toddler. We also potty trained Nate earlier last winter (had just turned 3); I've enjoyed a full year of not being pregnant (yay), and I spent most of 2007 breastfeeding, ending (sadly) in the late fall. I've been though a gamut of products over the course of the calendar year.

So here's a list of my top ten based on my own experiences - they are listed in no particular order, as ranking them would have been too confusing for my already tired Mommy mind:

Sara Bear Baskets -- I did a mini-review of our Sara Bear Basket the first week of January, when baby was 8 weeks old. This continues to be one of my all time favorites for use with a newborn. As a two-time C-section Mom, I can really appreciate not having to go up and down the stairs to change baby's diaper in his room.

For months, we kept a Sara Bear diaper caddy stocked on the first floor. The liner inside the basket offers different cubbies for necessary items like diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream. I loved the convenience of it. Use coupon code STYLE for 10%. Continental US shipping only. Expires 1/31/2008.

GlamourMom tanks -- So I literally lived in these tank tops the entire time I was breastfeeding. They provide easy access for quick breastfeeding, and what I loved the most is that they kept my stomach covered while I was doing it. I layered up with these in the winter and would wear only these and a tank or tee shirt in the summer. I wrote a full review last February.

You can find them on the Mom 4 Life site. You have to go through this link to get to the homepage, if you do you'll get 10% off. Do a search on "glamourmom" from there. Or, get them on the SuperMomz site, where they are on sale for $37.95 and you can use coupon code mwsfree for free shipping.

I can not rave enough about these tank tops - nursing bras are great but the GlamourMom is a nursing bra and extra coverage in one.

Hooter Hider/Bebe Au Lait - along those same lines, I have to add the Hooter Hider, or Bebe Au Lait. I really wasn't one of those nursing Moms who had to hide myself - I nursed in public like a champ in the end, but I'm a modest person and *I* felt more comfortable if the only one seeing my exposed self was me and the baby. Anyway, the Hooter Hider is also a must-have for any nursing Mama. It loops right over your head and covers baby. The top part of the cover has a wire inside of it, so it bends to allow eye contact with you and your child where no one else can see.

I'm cheating a little because this was also on my best of 2006 list. But I had to list it again - it came a long way with me again in 2007 and I wouldn't feel right leaving it out. It's arguably the baby product I used the most consistently all year long.

Find it at Modern Milk, use coupon code mws for free shipping on orders over $25. Or Mom4Life, go through this link and search for "Hooter Hider" and you'll get 10% off. And here's my original review of it for a longer description.

Wooden, American-made toys -- it's been a crazy year of one recall after another on some big name brand toys. I was skeptical about buying just about anything for Christmas, and I already have one toy that was under the tree that I've since found out has been recalled. To say it's annoying is an understatement.

I've been moving more and more towards wooden and American-made toys that I know are safe for my kids. Melissa & Doug are of course a big one (check out Gummy Lump for a full collection that is all 10% off), but I also liked shopping at Oh-Toys.com for Cuboro blocks and marble runs. And ImagiPlay has some great toys that are not only safe for your children but are eco-friendly. You can use coupon code TopTen0330 for 15% off the ImagiPlay site until March 30, 2008.

Dad Gear backpack - On a recent trip to Florida, both hubby and I carried our own Dad Gear backpacks. I have to say, I don't know how I lived on the plane before using one. This backpack has everything needed for extended travel or big packing days -- a thin changing pad, a built-in wipes case, space for diapers, bottles and so much more. Basically compartments for all sorts of goodies you need when traveling with young children.

Use coupon code MWS15 for 15% off your order of anything on the DadGear site. Hubby's also recently been wearing the Dad Gear Diaper Vest and loving it so be sure to check those out while on the site too.

Svan's High Chair - So my big-bulky-ugly Baby Trend high chair from when Nate was a baby has officially left the house. Yay! I see no reason to ever use it again as we're still adoring the Svan High Chair.

It's easy to clean, takes up very little room in my kitchen and is actually a pleasing-looking piece of furniture. It has different settings to grow with child from baby up to teenager.

You can pick the color wood/stain as well as cushion choice. You can buy it at Albee Baby for $224 and it ships free.

Little Docs by Circle of Friends - this lotion is the only over-the-counter cream I've found that even moderately helps Cole's bad eczema. If we keep up with it and put it on daily, it keeps his dry skin at bay.

I can't say that about any other cream other than the prescribed hydrocortisone cream we have from the pedi. We use the Calming Cream and the Soothing Lotion. I reviewed Little Docs back in June and continue to be thrilled with the results.

Check their local retailers page to see where you can find it near you if you don't want to order it online. They supposedly carry it at some Targets and Walmarts, and when looking up my town I found that it's also carried at Ulta.

Merrell McGinness Handbags - I carried the Merrell McGinness Margaret bag the entire fall and I still love it. I reviewed it in August and spent the entire fall adoring it and receiving all sorts of compliments on it. It's bigger than it looks, although I'm also an efficient packer. But I had plenty of room for diapers, wipes and a sippy or two, plus the rest of the usual necessities. You can check out their entire line at www.merrellbags.com.

Summer Video Monitor -- Hubby calls it "Cole TV." Each night he has to ask, "can you please turn off Cole TV now that he's asleep?" I'm addicted. It's by far the best "channel" we have in the house. I just love watching him play/talk/fall asleep each night.

We got it late in baby terms - we didn't have one with Nate at all, but Cole was a horrible sleeper early on. We co-slept until he was 6 months old and I had a hard time transitioning him to his crib. The monitor was a purchase at that time. It helped tremendously - I could see that he was just fine and it stopped me from running in every five minutes. Plus, we had to cry it out some and "seeing" that he was okay really abated much worry on my part.

The best part now is when he wakes up and waves to the camera. Good morning, Mom! I love it. So worth the $100. You can find it on Amazon (ships for free) or in-store at Babies R Us.

Lascal Buggy Board Maxi - I'm happy to report that we've recently graduated from the double stroller to using the single again, with the addition of a ride on board for the days I have both kids with me.

On our recent plane trip, we had the Buggy board and we were blown away by how much easier it made travel. Nate calls it his "surf board" and gets a kick out of "surfing" while we push. It snaps right onto the back of the stroller (check to see if it's compatible with your single).

Obviously this only works with an older child but it's a great transition product when you have a child that's big but not quite big enough for trips where lots of walking's involved.

Runner Ups:

the iPhone. Honestly it should have made by top 10, but no one wanted to hear me blab on and on again about how obsessed I am. So you can read my review from earlier in the year here if you're interested.

Wall Candy Arts - these wall decals are too fun. Kids can draw right on the chalk boards. Read my review from August.

Graco's Baby Einstein Exersaucer - borrowed from Julie, this exersaucer saw a serious amount of play. Two kids later, I have yet to see a more entertaining one. I included it in a mini-review back in May. The only reason it's not in my top ten is that I felt sort of lame doing a plain old exersaucer. But really, this one's fantastic and provides hours of entertainment to baby.

Baby Jogger stroller - and the only reason this is even a runner-up is because I had it in my top ten last year. Still loving using both our single and double City Series.

Little Jules birth necklace - I wear one, my Mom wears one, my sister now wears one (with her nephews birth dates). Simple, classic. Use coupon code MWSGIFT and get $10 off your order.

Cloud B's Twilight Turtle - check out my review from earlier this month. Both boys love this product.

IcyBag: Keepin' it Cool

It may not have been created for babies, but the IcyBag cosmetic, loved by Ashlee Simpson and Christina Aguilera, has been a medical lifesaver!

This stylin' beauty cooler bag (check out the ever-popular colors) is a diva's dream. Perfect for hot beach days, it keeps make-up and lotions cool when the weather is way too hot.

But its a Mommy-Diva's dream in disguise. Sure, toss your lipstick in to keep it cool, but you can also throw in a bottle of Amoxicillan and a small pumped bottle. The tiny gel pack goes from freezer to bag, but comes with a coordinated cover, which holds in the sweat of the ice-bag, so your cooled items stay cool, but not soaked. Measuring 6x2x8, it easily fits into a standard diaperbag or tote, but its colors are so fashionable you could carry it alone.

Mine's coming with me for a couple's weekend in Vegas, when I'll be sunning by the pool in March. But it will also be in my car with the ever-important parenting items all summer long.

Liz Claiborne bags at Best Buy

lizbag.jpgYou probably think of Best Buy for electronics and appliances, but you might be surprised to learn that they have joined forces with Liz Claiborne to sell a line of computer bags/totes and small electronic cases that are fashionable, affordable and perfect for moms on the run.

I particularly like this handsome red faux patent tote this holiday season. It's low maintenance and cheerful no matter what the weather outside. There is a removable computer sleeve that protects my oversized 15 inch laptop (not always easy to find something that will fit her!) and the bag is spacious and organized enough to also carry all my other mommy essentials. Plus it is so polished looking. Matching cell and ipod cases in leopard with patent trim round out the tech ensemble.

Just one more reason to stop by a Best Buy store or shop online this season. See the whole collection here.

Go Green with Skeeda reusable grocery bags

I'm going to do it. Soon. Every time I check out at my local grocery store, I feel compelled to stop using the plastic bags, it's such a waste. The other day I was in my local grocery store and I was speaking to the clerk about the reusable bags they have for sale. (Were a lot of people buying them? Were a lot of people using them now?) I'm impressed when I see Moms and others using their recyclable bags. But I feel like I'm lucky to get out the door with my diaper bag, let alone some additional grocery bags.

But even more of a motivation now for me to make the change are these grocery bags from Skeeda. Not only are they environmentally friendly (not just the bag itself, of course, but the act of no longer using plastic bags each time you go) but they are stylish and cute!

I'll be the first to admit that keeping the environment safe is so high up on the totem pole that being "stylish" isn't even in the same world... but, if you can be both eco friendly AND stylish, why not?

Check the bags out on Skeeda's website. If you purchase, mention "mommies with style" in the comments section and one lucky buyer from this site will receive an extra bag of choice. The bags are $15 each and hold a lot. (I recently used mine for a day trip with some clothes for the boys - loved it! Light and simple.)

OYikes Slingback - Bag on the Run!

SlingbackLifestyleFrostedTitanium.jpg For years I have been in search of the perfect "active day out" bag. You know what I mean. The bag that you can include in your plans for Disneyland, or the zoo. The bag that leaves you hands free to navigate the airport with a couple of toddlers in tow. It has to withstand the elements and it has to be comfortable enough to wear when you're riding a bike. It's an elusive beast, that perfect bag on the run. But I think the OYikes Slingback has done it.

First of all there is the way it is worn. With it's single strap sling style and adjustable velcro strap, the Oyikes bag bridges the chasm between messenger and backpack. It is extremely comfy, easy on the back and hands free. The velcro makes it a snap to adjust the bag, and quickly put it on and take off. Something to consider when you are hopping on and off rides like Small World all day. The bag also fits well on a range of people/sizes, both my 10 yr old daughter and 6 ft tall husband were comfortable in this bag.

Next there is the durable and stylish fabric. Four color choices of high quality fabric, a slightly postmodern aesthetic and boxy shape give this bag a sporty cool look .

oyikes.jpg Finally there is the multi tasking functionality. This bag was thoughtfully designed for use by busy people, and won't slow you down when you change gears or switch roles. It works equally well for moms and for dads. The features are plentiful and design thoughtful. A wide zippered opening helps you retrieve what you need, fast. There is a cellphone pocket front and center on the strap, where you need it. Generous bottle pockets on the side and multiple interior comparments make it easy to organize and keep organized. Extra bits and pieces such as an optional computer sleeve, an insulated bottle pocket, wipes case, included accessories case (for cords or for kids items), and changing pad that let you customize the bag to meet the demands of your busy day.

You can even order an Oyikes bag in the 24.7 version - fully packed up and ready to go. It makes a super shower gift. Fans of this bag include and my own husband, who uses this bag everytime he flies, with or without the kids.

Mommies with Style save 20% when you enter the code mws in the notes with your order. Your price will be adjusted after the order is place and before your card is charged.

A splash of fun, dash of practical=recipe for cute bags

Who out there couldn't use a little more whimsy in their lives? Kids are fun and diaper bags are a necessity, so how about a diaper bag that adds a touch of laughter mixed with style and functionality? Cricket and Monkey makes these bags.

The Taylor Weekender sports tons of pockets, including an outside cell phone pocket and two bottle pockets. Inside there are plenty of compartments for your needs. The outside is vinyl - making it convenient for wipe down and cleaning.

For smaller packing needs, they also offer the On the Go tote. Stick a couple of diapers and wipes in this bag and head out the door.

They also sells some great blankets, and play/splat mats too. And you'll love the prints - fun and different. Check them out on Cricket and Monkey's site.

Preview: The new Skip*Hop City Chic Diaper Bag

The Indian Summer that has struck the east coast has definitely been to my advantage: extra opportunity to enjoy all new gear! I recently took the Skip*Hop City Chic, along with my boys and a mod stroller, to the zoo. A bit fancy for a zoo day, it got quite a few second glances. And although it was fancy, I loved that it that it brushed clean, something the canvas Skip*Hops of old wouldn't have done, they'd have collected the dirt and needed a thorough washing.

The exterior, available in trendy, funky patterns, is mostly a soft vinyl, not shiny and thick (more like the exterior fabric of the Lexie Barnes). And to make it a bit more luxurious, you'll love the leather... yes, real leather, on these Skip*Hops. A bit of detail is embellished in leather, as well as the base and tote straps--which are thin, round and stay on the shoulder surprisingly well.

The detachable wristlet, though a little big for me, was so handy for places (like our beloved reptile house) that aren't stroller-friendly. My huge wallet, my camera. lipstick and phone all fit, albeit snuggly, inside. It looks tres' chic attached to the bag, too. It clips off to be a wristlet or a shoulder bag and if you're in a hurry and don't want to reclip it to the bag (which doesn't take long at all, but it takes too long for a running toddler at a busy zoo) it fits nicely into the interior of the bag.

In addition to the fabulously organized interiors that Skip*Hop is loved for, they also kept the outside cup holders (3 cheers!!). These look nicer than the mesh bags of the canvas Skip*Hops, and they hold cups firmly. I fit my drink in an exterior pocket without a lot of spillage (gotta give a little credit to the suspension on my stroller) while chasing the kids at the Children's Zoo. What's so nice about these holders, versus the mesh, is that they're sturdier because of the vinyl--so the cups and bottles fit in and out with one hand, no need to open the area with hand number 2.

An addition to the Skip*Hops of before, the City Chic has feet! About a cm (maybe smaller?) off the ground. It stays upright and steady. Another standout is that this Skip*Hop has a zipper at the top. This is an upgraded Skip*Hop, they upgraded the zipper, rings and attachments to silver metal. Speaking of attachments, gone are the days of pinching fingers while attaching your Skip*Hop to a stroller handle. The City Chic has a thinner, yet still-sturdy piece and which is attached with a metal spring hook and ring.

I'm impressed. We're not talking absolute luxury, but a sharp look on a proven and beloved design. A definite upgrade. People know the Skip*Hop, they come back to it again and again for a reason. They like Skip*Hop bags convenience, organization and durability. And didn't let that go. Its all still there, just shilded. (From the exterior, I wouldn't even know it was a Skip-Hop, the label is so low-key I had to search to find it.)

Due in November (deep breath... its only a few days away), you'll soon find the City Chic at Skip*Hop's own webpage, as well as many favorite local and online boutiques.

Baby on the go by Debbie Rott

debbierott.jpgEverytime we take a trip I am torn between the urge to pack a separate toiletries bag for baby or just throw the baby stuff in with my own. Honestly I hate to give up my own shampoo space so I am very happy that Debbie Rott has come out with her Baby on the Go Gloria bag.

The Gloria bag is crafted of buttery soft leather with a groovy printed waterproof lining and cute ducky key fob on the zipper pull. The versatile size is just perfect for travel but you could also use it for organizing essentials inside your daily diaper bag. It also makes a great car kit for emergency diaper change situations. It's a bag that you will enjoy using every time because of the fine leather and great quality - at $38 it is a nice little luxury for any mom.

I love that this is one bag we'll use for years to come. Even after diaper days are over, it is perfect for travel, for sleepovers, etc. Mommies with Style enjoy free shipping with the coupon code FREESHIP at Babystud.com.

Amy Kathryn does it again with her fabulous diaper bags!

Earlier this year I reviewed a diaper bag by Amy Kathryn and it was a huge hit on this site. Lots of you ladies purchased Amy's cool, trendy bags, and I know many of you are wondering what new items Amy has to offer.

I recently got a hold of Amy's newest bag called the Hydrangea diaper bag. It has her signature slouchy style but they added some big pockets to the outside. I absolutely love the color combination of chocolate brown, denim, and taupe. The fabrics are unique and soft, and the textures are varied (some cord, ultrasuede, and satin) and interesting. The bag is spacious enough for me to tote around for my infant and three-year old, but not too big that it is overwhelming. There are plenty of pockets outside and a few inside to keep your organized. The bag also comes with a matching (plush) changing pad with pocket.

And one of my favorite features of Amy's bags is that they are eco- and animal-friendly. Though it looks and feels like leather and suede, all materials are eco-conscious!

This bag is functional, eco-friendly, and fashionable -- what more can you ask for in a bag!? Trust me, pick up one of these bags and you will be stopped by many asking where you got it. Enter code MWS20 to receive 20% off, plus, if you are in the US, you will receive free shipping too!
