  • Immediately reduces side impact forces through the precise release of air
  • Extended use from a tiny 4 to a full 35 pounds
  • Additional leg room for baby’s comfort
  • Customizable insert and low harness slots make the seat ideal for preemies and adjustable for growing babies
  • Carry Curve™ Handle features ergonomic design
  • Base Belt Lock easily secures your vehicle seat belt during installation
  • One Click LATCH installation system

Here’s some important information from Safety1st:

1 in 4 car crashes involving children are side impact collisions. They are by far the deadliest type of collision for children, accounting for 1 in 3 child fatalities; nearly all of which are caused by head trauma. These are frightening facts, but Safety 1sthas been by your side for 25 years providing innovative products to help protect your child from becoming a statistic. It is in this tradition that we proudly announce Air Protect™ side impact technology.

Safety 1st engineers designed Air Protect™ using next generation testing methods that simulate the most violent types of side impact crashes, those with vehicle intrusion. Using this advanced methodology, Air Protect™ was engineered to defend your child in two vital ways. During a crash, the system immediately shields your child’s head from the impact. In a second layer of defense, Air Protect™ allows air to escape from the headrest: channeling crash energy away from your child, creating more ride down time. It is this double layer of protection that makes Air Protect™ technology unique.

Love it.  I know if I were putting my baby into an infant carrier today, I’d certainly want a double layer of protection.  I’d want to protect my baby any extra way possible.

Make Your Home Safe With KidCo Baby Proofing Products (Givewaway!)

As a parent, it’s your job to make your baby’s world a safe place to learn and grow. Baby-proofing helps protect your child from dangerous areas in your home–and helps protect your belongings from damage. There are many products marketed to parents to baby-proof their homes, but as with most parenting issues, sometimes the most basic solutions often rely on common sense. But along with common sense it never hurts to have a brand that you can trust, and when it comes to safety items, KidCo is that brand.

A major question moms may ask themselves is how do I know what is dangerous? In order to get a clear view on what your baby might find the most interesting.  You will be amazed at what catches your attention at your baby level. Keep a list of dangerous areas, and then search for items that could remedy that danger, or at least make it a little safer. Here are a few to start with.

Electrical Sockets:  Cover them all with KidCo Outlet Caps, or better yet, replace them with the Universal Outlet Cover. Its spring loaded cover automatically covers outlet and prevents injury from inserting objects into the outlet. Best yet, you only need one cover no matter what style outlet you have because it works on both Standard and Decora style outlets.

Fireplace: HearthGate will help protect your baby from not only the hard hearth surface, but also from the dangerous flames when a fire is burning and the fireplace materials that could pose a chocking hazard. If you don’t want a gate to entirely surround your fireplace, keep your baby safe from falls onto the hard hearth surface with KidCo Hearth Guard. Unlike other hearth guards on the market the KidCo Hearth Guard doesn’t require the use of adhesive and therefore can be removed when not needed, with no messy adhesive residue left behind.

Cupboards/Drawers: Secure cabinet doors and drawers with childproof locks. KidCo has a number of different styles of these locks, one will surely fit your needs:  Swivel Cabinet/Drawer Lock, Sliding Cabinet Lock, Adhesive Mount Cabinet/Drawer Lock, Adjustable Locking Strap (great for Lazy Susans where little fingers can get pinched merely by pushing on the door), Spring Action Lock and the Magnet Lock-the only magnet lock on the market that installs without drilling!

Stairs: More than half of all nonfatal injuries to children are from falls, according to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign. Many of these falls involve unprotected stairways. To avoid stairway falls, install safety gates at the top and bottom of open stairways and be sure to keep them fastened at all times when baby is around.  Remember that only wall or hardware mounted gates should be used at the top of stairs. KidCoSafewayline is perfect for top of stair applications and the pressure mount Gateway line is great at the bottom of the stairs and as room dividers. For KidCo complete line of safety gates visit www.kidco.com.

Furniture: When babies use furniture to pull themselves up, they can pull things over. Remove wobbly tables that could tip over and fasten bookcases to the wall. Use KidCo Anti-Tip Furniture Straps to secure furniture to a wall. The Anti-Tip TV Straps are specifically used to anchor flat screen televisions to the wall or furniture. Take the sharp edges off your furniture by covering them. KidCo Soft Corner Protectors are adhesive mount and come in both clear and white, or try KidCo Foam Corner and Edge Protectors. These large, neutral colored adhesive mount cushions will do the trick in helping to soften hard sharp edges.

Doors: Doors pose several hazards. Doors can lead to areas of the home (or outdoors) that aren’t safe for your child. They can also pose a finger-pinch hazard. Additionally, an often overlooked problem exists in the doorstop. If you have the metal coil doorstop, the end cap can pose a choking hazard. You might be tempted to just remove the cap, but the metal coil can be sharp. Instead, remove the entire unit and replace it with a one piece Soft Jamb Door Stop from KidCo. Its slips right into the previously drilled hole.

Safety 1st Nature Next Bio-Plastic Booster Seat

Safety 1st® Nature Next™ Bio-Plastic Booster Seat ($11) is just perfect for my 4 1/2 year old son – who still needs a booster seat. We were using a soft booster seat for him, but it kept falling off the chair (with him) when my son would fidget. This eco-friendly seat now also comes in a bright blue.

Safety 1st® Nature Next™ Bio-Plastic Booster Seat is made from 50% bio-plastic, which is developed from renewable plant resources.

I like it because the the booster seat includes adjustable chair straps and non-slip rubber feet to help keep the seat steady. While it’s not adjustable, it is perfect for children who need a smaller boost to reach the table.

You’ll have to thread the chair straps in the back and bottom of the chair, but it was pretty simple. It also has a 3-point harness, which my 2 1/2 year old can use (when she sits in his seat). Add in a low price and this feeding booster seat is a bargain!   Get it on Amazon for $10.99 with free shipping.

Thank you to Safety 1st for providing a sample for review.

Car seat review: Evenflo Symphony 65

Looking for a new car seat?  Evenflo’s Symphony 65 has been getting great reviews for both safety and ease-of-use.

Some of the specs:
-Evenflo’s SureLatch system, making install incredibly easy
-the Infiniate Slide Harness Adjustment System makes for easy height adjustment without having to rethread the whole strap
-Rear facing 5-35 pounds, forward facing from 20-65 pounds – and you can use it as a booster up to 100 pounds!

Other random notes:  while it has all of the necessary features, it seems a little bit smaller than some of the other 5-point car seats we’ve had in the past – which is really nice when you’re looking for a little extra room in the car.

The straps also tighten/loosen very easily (a pet peeve of mine when I’m having to dig around to adjust)

Get Evenflo’s Symphony 65 on Amazon for $189 (retails for $199) plus free shipping.

Also – a little bonus for Toyota owners:  launched today from Evenflo, enjoy a $10 discount on Serenade, Triumph Advance, and Generations65 car seats at www.evenflo.com/safecarseat because the last thing you want to be concerned about during all of these crazy car recalls is whether your car seat is safe!

To take advantage of the $10 discount offer, Toyota owners should visit Evenflo.com/safecarseat through the end of March and input the model and year of their vehicle. They will then be offered a coupon in order to receive the discount on their purchase at retail. Offer is valid on Evenflo’s line of car seats including: Serenade, Triumph Advance, and Generations65.

A sample of the Evenflo Symphony 65 was provided to assist in this review.

Child Safety Kit: A very practical baby gift

child-safety-kit-smYou know, not all baby gifts are sunshine, roses, butterflies and balloons. Or even teddy bears. In fact, cableorganizer.com sent me a sample of their Child Safety kit and, upon really looking at it, I’m thinking it may be one of the greatest holiday or baby gifts one can receive. Because, really, with the holidays rolling around I can tell you we don’t need another teddy bear, baby blanket or burp cloth or bottle. But what we do need is to make our home safe for our oh-so-curious (and very rapidly growing) 4 month old.

The kit, which retails for less than $60, includes over 100 safety items. Items that keep your child safe from electrical and common household danger. In just the one kit you’ll receive outlet covers, cable tubes (which keep the wires inside and hidden away), drawer locks, corner cushions (for tables and, in the the case of my home, hearths), and much more. There are so many safety things to think about, this set makes the thinking a little easier, because so much is provided for you.

So, while the parents still have to do the work of making the house safe, what a big help a safety gift really is. (Come to think of it, it’s probably a pretty good idea to send this set to the grandparent’s houses, too. Just a sly little reminder that everyone needs to safety proof!)

Childproofing with Safety 1st

Image and video hosting by TinyPicMy daughter recently turned a year old and quickly got into everything — so we had to childproof again much sooner than we had expected. So, we turned to products from Safety 1st to make our home secure from our little Houdini. We love Safety 1st’s Essentials Childproofing kit ($9.99). It contains 4 Grip and Twist Door Knob Covers, 12 Wide Grip Latches and 30 Press ‘n Pull Plug Protectors. I like the Grip and Twist Door Knob Covers because they are the only door knob covers that actually work on our bedroom, closet, and bathroom doors (we had been through many brands). I like that you can actually touch the door through the grip holes — which was very helpful. The Press ‘n Pull Latches were great because you have to push in the little prong to release them from the outlet –meaning my little lady couldn’t yank them out herself. The Wide Grip Latches came in handy when my little gal started opening any cabinet and drawer she could reach (as well as getting up on a stepstool to get at more drawers).

We also put some other products from Safety 1st into service. The Magnetic Tot Lok Starter Set ($13.99) is magnetic locking system that helps keeps cabinets and drawers closed. This starter set includes two locks and one key. It was easy to install, but you’ll need a hand drill and a Phillips screwdriver. We also installed the ProGrade™ Push-Button Toilet Lock ($22.99) to secure the toilet lid. It fits all standard toilets,  just use the push-button for to open with one hand. It has a locking indicator, an adjustable base for a custom fit and it attaches to existing toilet hardware.

Safety 1st’s products are widely available.
