madii & dyl: Luxe Needs of Today’s conscious Parent

With all the scary information about crib safety I was lost as to where to find a great pillow for my son. I know he isn’t supposed to be using one just yet, but I will admit to cheating a bit and giving him one now that he’s reached a year. I am happy to report that the madii & dyl Teenii Tot pillow was a perfect addition to my son’s crib.

Designed to meet the luxe needs of today’s conscious parents and their savvy tots, the Madii & Dyl range came about when mother of two, Jackie was unable to find products that met the sensitive needs of her children. From there she created a line of products that where Hypoallergenic,  all natural and chemical free. All things that any mom would want for their child.

The Teenii Tot pillow ($49) is made for toddlers and walkers. Tur distinctive wave design conforms to the child’s head offering proper neck support and spine alignment. The Self-ventilating cores provide maximum air flow, keeping the child cool and comfortable. Perfect for allergy sufferers, it is the only pillow that can be washed and never change its shape. It makes a great beginning pillow for you child.

Madii & dyl also makes the Sookie Babe pillow ($39) for newborns, and The Mini Me ($59) for a child of 4 plus years. Each pillow has a special design will be a perfect fit for any child of that age. My son had flat head, so the Sookie babe which is designed to prevent flat head would’ve been great.

When you feel ready to put a pillow in your child’s crib I think any of these would be a good choice. The special designs and the fact that they are made chemical free can allow you, as a parent to sleep soundly at night too, knowing that your child is safe, and sleeping comfortably.

TummyTub: Making Bathtime Easier for Newborns

For nine months your baby feels safe, comfortable and secure in mother’s womb – what better way to help baby relax than to mimic that environment?  TummyTub was developed in Holland in cooperation with physicians, midwives and nurses to help ease the transition from womb to the world.  The unique womb-shape allows baby to maintain a fetal position and stay warm while you bathe him.

TummyTub is said to help calm colicky babies.  I received my tub after my little one was past her bout of colic, but judging by her enjoyment of the tub in later months, I’m sure it would have helped us during some sleepless nights.  We did have some successes with the TummyTub, though.  Water stayed warmer longer since there’s less surface area exposed, we could use it anywhere…not necessarily in the sink or bathtub, and clean up was a breeze!  It was super easy to travel with as well and even served as an extra container to pack baby’s things – something that’s always a plus when traveling with a little one!  My little one loves bathtime and has progressed to the tub, but TummyTub is suggested for toddlers up to 2 years old.  Yep, up to 2 years old!  I know when you look at that little tub you wouldn’t think that even an 8 month old could fit in there, but I assure you that they can.  You can read all about the benefits for every age on TummyTub’s site.

TummyTub retails for $42 and can be purchased directly from the TummyTub website or from retailers around the world.  The company has also designed a Two-Step Stool that allows you to sit comfortably in a chair while bathing baby in the TummyTub and can then be converted to a step stool or seat for your child as they get older.

30 Weeks Pregnant: Summer Infant Supreme Inclined Sleep Positioner with Heartbeat

To me, a  a good sleep positioner is a new baby must-have. With our third child coming in 2 months, I was thrilled to test Summer Infant’s Supreme Inclined Sleep Positioner with Heartbeat ($32-39).

It comes in one piece and offers 3 individual adjustments for a custom fit. It keeps baby in the center of the crib/bassinet/co-sleeper and sleeping on their back.  The incline elevates baby’s head to help digestion and also includes Summer Infant’s patented heartbeat sensation.

The heartbeat includes three different settings: Heartbeat mode (re-creates the heartbeat feeling from the womb and automatically turns to Listening mode after 10 minutes), Listening mode (which allows the positioner to “listen” for your baby. If baby starts to cry, the heartbeat sound will automatically turn back on the comfort your baby to sleep) and the Combo mode (which begins in Heartbeat and after 10 minutes fades to Listening mode).

This positioner includes the TOTS reminding system to help parents remember to alternate the direction they lay baby down to sleep, in order to prevent plagiocephaly, or Flat Head Syndrome.

Naturals by Safety 1st

Image and video hosting by TinyPicSafety 1st recently released their Naturals Line and I am a big fan! This line does not contain any parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde or dyes and has no harmful chemicals or preservatives – which as a mom makes me happy. For this line, Safety 1st follows the natural product standards set by the Natural Products Association (NPA). The standards say that “natural products must be formulated with at least 95% all natural ingredients and contain only synthetic ingredients specifically allowed under this standard and environmentally-friendly products that are nurturing to us and as harmless as possible to the Earth.” We tested out 4 of the products: Shampoo and Body Wash, Bubble Bath, Intensive Moisture Lotion for Dry Skin and Daily Moisture Lotion. All had very reasonable price points of around $5.99.

While we liked all the products, my children’s favorite product was the Bubble Bath. My kids beg for this every bath time. They love the bubbles- I love that it’s not harmful to them. It’s recommended for babies ages 6 months and up. I kept stealing the Intensive Moisture Lotion for my own dry feet and love the way it moisturizes. The Daily Moisture Lotion is great for applying to baby-soft skin after the bath. The Shampoo and Body Wash was gentle and tear-free, which is a must in my household.

You’ll be able to find Safety 1st’s Naturals Line at Babies R Us.

A Cleaner Solution to Diaper Changes

It’s fair to say that diaper changing is not the most celebrated responsibility of mommyhood.  And while I’m waiting for my little one to arrive, I’m certainly keeping my eyes peeled for anything that could make the job a little less messy.  Bottom’s Up Baby Gear’s changing pad cover helps minimize the mess while also cutting back on laundry.  Solving one problem while alleviating another?  I’m sold!

nurseryWith their patented design, Bottom’s Up Baby Gear has created a changing pad cover that provides a plush upper half for baby’s comfort and a wipeable bottom half for mommy’s easy cleaning.  A typical changing pad cover needs to be tossed in the wash after every messy diaper change.  With this cover, clean-up is as simple as a quick wipe.

The high-quality, vinyl bottom is both non-absorbent and extermely durable.  By using baby wipes or disinfectant wipes, an accident during a diaper change can be resolved in seconds.  Plus there’s peace of mind knowing that your baby’s skin is always touching a clean surface.  The top portion is created with ultra-snuggly minky dot fabric offering a more soothing experience for your baby.  Each cover also comes with a matching pillow contoured to support a baby’s head and neck.

When needed, the sections can be detached by a zipper allowing for separate laundering or swapping out colors for a new look.  You can change the look of your cover to match a nursery by mixing and matching bottoms and tops.  Choose from nine color options for the minky dot (white, light blue, light yellow, light pink, dark pink, sage, dark blue, latte, and chocolate) and two vinyl selections (white and chocolate).  The cost savings of not needing multiple changing pad covers practically pays for itself.

For a cleaner way to solve a messy problem, Bottom’s Up Baby Gear’s changing pad cover can be purchased for $39.98 online.  Use coupon code baby and receive free shipping until 1/31/10.

Tommee Tippee Products Come To the US

Image and video hosting by TinyPicThe year was 2001 and I was in England to visit my friend Sam’s new baby Ella. While shopping at the English drugstore chain, Boots, I found these great soft roll bibs by Tommee Tippee. Now, as a mom of two, I’ve never been able to find a bib that worked as well since. I was pleased to find out that Tommee Tippee is coming to the US and will be exclusive to Babies R Us and Toys R Us. One of the best selling brands in Europe, I was also happy to find out their products are BPA-free.

They’ve got two major lines launching in the US very soon. The closer to nature line (for infants and babies) consists of bottles, breastpumps, pacifiers and baby accessories (like bibs and weaning cups). The explora line (for ages 6 months to around 4 years) consists of bibs, cups, feeding bowls, and utensils.

The expora® Easi-Roll Bibs (2 pack for $6.99) are an an updated version of the ones I loved in 2001. They are made of silicone, have a crumb catcher, and can be cleaned in the top rack of your dishwasher.

We loved the explora® Truly Spill Proof Cups (2 pack for $7.99). They were easy to grip, insulated (so drinks stayed colder longer) and looked a little more chic than regular sippy cups of the same size. They hold 9 fluid ounces, and have a valve that’s designed by a physicist so liquid flows on demand, but it’s still spill and leak proof. Both my 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter kept reaching for these cups. We kept tipping them over (which most of the time accidentally) and no liquid ever spilled. We even took them with us when we visited my inlaws over the Christmas holiday.

Look for Tommee Tippee products very soon!

The reviewer was invited to a comedy show and gifted with some Tommee Tippee items.

15% off coupon code – Plush Pad for Baby

Let me start off by saying that someone should market an adult-sized “Plush Pad”, especially for us pregnant women who have trouble getting comfortable!  I’d love to have one of these to carry around.

plushpadThe Plush Pad is designed as a portable changing station but can be used for so much more – a mat for “tummy time” or an extra cushion during a nap.  With its memory foam cushion and roll-up design, it can be taken anywhere and used for just about anything.  When open, the Plush Pad measures 2 ft. by 2 ft. and offers a memory foam center surrounded by ultra-soft (and stylish) boutique fabric.  The cover is water-repellent protecting against accidents.  Simply remove the cover from the cushion (like a pillowcase) and toss it in the washer.

If you’re not familiar with it, memory foam is a remarkable material.  It is made up of billions of high-density, elastic microcushions.  When the temperature sensitive cells come in contact with a warm area of the body, they become soft and more pliable.  In cooler areas they stay firm.  The cells actually shift position and reorganize to conform to the body.  Memory foam acts as a shock absorber to help protect a baby’s head and neck.

The Plush Pad comes in 13 different fabric selections and can be purchased worldwide at select baby boutiques and online for $24.94.  Purchase a Plush Pad from the site prior to January 20, 2010, and receive 15% off when you enter coupon code MWS120 at checkout.
