29 Weeks Pregnant: BellyBuds Wearable Speakers for Expecting Mamas

My unborn babe and I are loving bellybuds ($49) – which are wearable speakers for moms-to-be that plays music and sounds to the womb. Just use the splitter to hook it up to your MP3 player, put the bellyphones on your belly using the hydrogel rings, and choose any music you want, or even play recorded voice messages from family members.

The bellybuds Deluxe Package includes:
(1) set of bellybuds bellyphones
(2) sets of hydrogel adhesive rings
(1) set of bellybuds buddons
(1) one neoprene storage pouch with belt clip
(2) bellyphones dock
(1) audio splitter

*Adult headphones and mp3 player not included.

The little guy in my tummy goes crazy and kicks like mad when I use the bellybuds. bellybuds include a standard 3.5mm audio jack that works with ipods, iphones and most other digital music players. I only wear it at home right now, usually after my other two kids are asleep. My baby’s favorite song seems to be Glee’s version of “Can’t Touch This”! And I love to feel him kicking like crazy when I use the bellybuds. The company recommends to limiting the length of time to 1-2hrs per session when using bellybuds,  so as not to risk over-stimulating your child and encourages users to consult with their doctors before use.

21 Weeks Pregnant: Chiarakruza for Target

Hey expecting mamas — have you seen Chiarakruza’s line for Target yet? Since I am a regular Target shopper and I’m pregnant with my third child, I was so excited to review two pieces from the collection — the Kate Top ($19.99)- pictured – and the Olivia Dress ($29.99).  The flirty Kate Top is a  floral print with purple, ebony, grey and coral. With a deep v-neck, a keyhole back, and short sleeves, this woven top is made of 95% rayon and 5% spandex. I found the shirt ran big but I loved the way it hugged my growing stomach. It’s machine-washable (cold setting) and can be tumbled dry on low.

I also checked out the fab Olivia Dress ($29.99). The sleeveless dress  can be worn casually or dressed up a little with some cute jewelry. It’s a knee-length jersey dress with a v-neck and a cute back time. I love that it also is machine-washable and can be tumbled dry on low.

Find Chiarakruza at Target.com or in Target stores.

15 Weeks Pregnant: Entering My 2nd Trimester & Taking Inventory

Image and video hosting by TinyPicI’m entering the 2nd trimester of my third pregnancy. While this pregnancy was a surprise, this baby will be coming mid-August and I’m getting really excited. I did pregnancy product reviews for Mommies With Style in 2007, when I was pregnant with my now 2 year old, Allegra. This is me on the left (hint, I’m the shorter one). The amazing Nicole Felicano of Momtrends interviewed me recently for her Great Expectations Quiz Series — click here to read my answers!

These are some of the products that I loved during my last pregnancy & the first new product I’m enjoying.

Bella Bands: I’m still too small for maternity clothes, but my tummy is starting to stick out a little bit. I’ve turned to the fabulous Bella Bands – which I absolutely lived in during my second pregnancy.  I can throw them under a t-shirt and not have to worry about my tummy becoming uncovered. My favorite was the black lace Bella Band. Click here to read my original review: Bella Bands. They’ve also got some new products, part of their Essentials Collection – the Everyday Cami, a Ruched Tank, Belly Leggings, and an Everyday Pant, which our writer, Julie, reviewed during her pregnancy last year. My Pregnancy Must-Haves

Thinking about having a baby?  Know someone who is expecting?  Already pregnant?  Whether you’re shopping for a gift or just for yourself.  Here is my list of the top 7 items that have kept me happy (and sane) these past 8 months of pregnancy.

Number 1: Maternity Pillows  selectcomfort

I can’t imagine these past few months (and the next one) without my Select Comfort Maternity Pillow.  About the middle of my second trimester I began to wake up with a sore back and realized that I needed some extra support.  I tried sleeping with a throw pillow between my knees, propping an extra pillow under my head and building a pillow blockade to keep me from rolling over onto my back.  None of these seemed to do the trick.  It wasn’t until I received Select Comfort’s pillow that I began to sleep soundly again.  The pillow is really two pillows in one.  A pillow to support your back and one to rest your ever-expanding belly are connected by an adjustable velcro pad in the middle.  It folds in half and has little cloth handles for travel.  And believe me, this pillow has gone with me anytime I was planning to sleep away from home.  The pillow is currently on sale for $29.99 on Select Comfort’s website, but hurry – the sale ends at the end of January!

Number 2: Leggings

I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful it is to be pregnant at a time when leggings are in fashion!  To me, they are the most comfortable thing to put on besides sweatpants, and I’m even able to dress them up to wear them to work.  The best part is that you don’t even have to buy maternity leggings – since they’re stretchy you just have to go up a size.

Number 3: Organic Body Products  aquatica

Even before becoming pregnant I dabbled in natural and organic body products.  But from the moment my pregnancy test turned positive, I tossed all the old face wash, lotions and body wash and replaced them with products that I knew were safe for both me and my baby.  I figure that I’m exposed to so many chemicals and pollutants from everyday life, that the least I should do is try to reduce any additional contaminants I put in my body when I actually have control of it.  Sweetsation Therapy has a wonderful line of organic body products.  Two that I’ve been using throughout my pregnancy are the Aqua*Tica Organic Botanical Night Cream and Q*Lumiere Organic Day Creme with Cucumber and Co Q10.  Both of these pregnancy-safe skin treatments not only prevent wrinkles, but also treat skin discoloration that often occurs during pregnancy.  The ingredients list on both of these products is full of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and plant extracts.  They smell fresh and they’ve certainly done a fine job of replacing all the face lotions I used pre-pregnancy.  Sweetsation Therapy has a wide range of organic and natural products on their site for everyday use, pregnancy and even for babies.  Use coupon code Mommies with Style at checkout to receive 20% off of your purchase.

Number 4: Water Bottle

For someone who’s never really thirsty, the amount of water you need to drink while pregnant is staggering.  I quickly learned that if it wasn’t in front of me at all times, I was definitely not drinking enough.  Very early in my pregnancy I purchased a 750ml, BPA-free water bottle that has been filled with water and hasn’t left my side since.  It’s kind of like a baby bottle for pregnant women, though it’s certainly kept me from getting in trouble with my doctor!

Number 5: Layering Tees  lovemybelly2

Pregnancy and layers just go hand in hand.  I could be overheating and sweating while my husband’s teeth are chattering in the car.  It’s the complete opposite of my life for the past 30 years, but it’s something I’ve learned how to overcome…it’s called layers.  It’s not very often these days that I leave the house (or my room for that matter) without at least one or two layers of clothing that I’m able to take off througout the day.  Between my tank tops and long cardigans, I’m usually wearing a long-sleeved tee.  One of my favorites is one I received from Love My Belly.  They are an online maternity clothing shop specializing in tees, though they also sell dresses, bottoms, and baby clothes.  My double-sleeve tee is a short sleeved black t-shirt with longer, patterned sleeves sewn into it.  It’s perfect with a pair of jeans or leggings to be casual or paired with a long skirt and short-sleeved cardigan for work.  And it’s extremely comfortable.  Place an order on the Love My Belly site with coupon code MWS20 and receive 20% off.

Number 6: Yoga DVD  yoga

Now I have to be completely honest – I haven’t used my Pregnancy Yoga DVD much.  However, just the knowledge that I have it and that it’s ready for me whenever I have the motivation to actually use it keeps me feeling pretty good.  Pre-pregnancy I was all about working out and going to the gym.  Staying active and fit was pretty important.  There’s just something about being pregnant that takes that drive out of you, but that’s where a good yoga DVD can come into play.  I received a Yoga 4 Pregnancy DVD led by Brenda Strong of Desperate Houswives.  It’s a great workout for all three trimesters.  She even gives some great labor techniques that you can do with your partner.  The exercises aren’t too challenging and I’m sure they will certainly help during labor.  So if you’re expecting or may be in the near future, it’s definitely something to have on hand….just in case!  You can purchase the DVD for $24.95 from the Yoga 4 Fertility website.

Number 7: Accessories, Accessories, Accessories!  earrings

I’ve always loved adding accessories to any outfit, though since I’ve been pregnant I’ve learned the value of doing so.  All it takes is a coordinating scarf, a chunky bracelet, or some big earrings to take the focus off of an ever-expanding baby bump.  Plus, with all the stretchy cotton pieces you’re likely to wear while pregnant, some fun accessories can help to make any outfit a little bit more exciting.  Twister Silver has some stunning jewelry that will liven up any outfit.  Despite the name, they have more than just silver and the styles range from delicate to showstoppers and from classy to bohemian.  Their prices are extremely reasonable and the pieces are definitely unique to anything you’d see in a department store.  I have a pair of their Glacier Earrings with a Victorian design and dangling Swarovski crystals.  They’re definitely stunning.  Check out all Twisted Silver has to offer on their site.  Their jewelry makes a wonderful gift for any woman, expecting or not!

Samples of some of the above products were provided for review on MWS.

Stylish maternity sweat pants? Yes, please!

When not at work, my standard pregnancy attire has been based on sweatpants and long-sleeved tees.  There’s nothing wrong with this wardrobe.  In fact, I’ve probably never dressed more comfortably and my husband’s starting to get used to it.  But sometimes I feel like I could have tried a little harder while choosing an outfit.  The perfect solution would be sweatpants and long-sleeved tees that not only fit and look stylish, but are also extremely comfortable.  And wouldn’t you know…I found the exact solution!nuka_maternity_thermal_image

Nuka Maternity offers contemporary materinty clothing that’s both fashionable and comfortable (two of my favorite “-able” words!).  They sent me a pair of french terry Leisure Pants and a Netalie Burnout thermal tee to review – both of which have become new staples of my wardrobe.  The terry pants are as soft as sweatpants, but have added front pockets and a form-fitting cut that makes them much more flattering than sweats.  The Burnout thermal tee is a beautiful orchid color and has a sexy (yet not too sexy) neckline.  All of Nuka Maternity’s clothing is made of ultra-soft premium fabrics, so they wash and wear well.  They’re created so you can “love what you wear and wear what you love all through your pregnancy and fourth trimester”.

Their versatile maternity collections can be found in boutiques across the country and can also be purchased directly from their site.  However, as a special offer for our readers, if you email your order directly to craig@nuka-la.com, you’ll receive 30% off when you mention Mommies with Style.

Layer it On Maternity Style

As I’ve already learned, a pregnant woman can go from freezing to “I’m so hot I may pass out” in about 2.3 seconds.  Finding outfits that fit while you’re putting on the baby weight can be a challenge on its own, but getting dressed to accommodate heat flashes and cold streaks makes it all the more difficult.

motherhoodbrowntoggle1As many a new mom has shared with me, dressing in layers can prevent a literal meltdown.  Luckily for those of us pregnant this season, the sweater coat is back and is the answer to many fall and winter wardrobe dilemmas.

Because of their usual roomy and open designs most sweater coats can be worn throughout a pregnancy.  However, there does come a time when you may prefer to have a few extra inches.

Motherhood Maternity’s new fall line includes a handful of sweater coats as well as multiple other layering options.

I woke up this morning to some chilly 38 degree weather.  Instead of throwing on a winter coat, I buttoned up Motherhood Maternity’s new Toggle Closure Cable Knit Maternity Sweater over my long-sleeved tee.  And it was a good thing that I did – my office was freezing, so I just left on the sweater and went about my day.  I’ve learned my lesson about layering.

To check out Motherhood Maternity’s new fall line, drop by one of their retail stores near you or visit them online.

Ingrid and Isabel – Not Just for Pregnant Moms

ingrid

I never thought I would say this but… I miss my maternity clothes. Not the tentlike garments that made me feel huge. The soft stretchy comfy magical garments that lifted, supported and pampered me. The ones that fit no matter what sort of day I was having and made me look and feel fabulous.

It’s easy to get spoilt by the fashionable, technologically advanced and fashionable clothing that is available for expectant moms today.

But guess what, you don’t have to get knocked up again to have an excuse to wear clothing that is both comforting and flattering. You have Ingrid and Isabel to thank for that. I recently met the owner of the company. She was looking very chic (and very unpregnant) in one of her own creations, a side ruched tank from the essentials collection. Her sales reps looked equally excellent in their outfits. None of them were pregnant. All of them were comfortable and fashionable. Lightbulb! I had to try some of these clothes myself!

Slipping into these garments is like greeting an old friend. Excuse me while I slip into something more comfortable. Only this time I’m free from indigestion, nausea, itching and having to pee every five minutes. What a treat! Everything looks great and is perfect for my daily runaround to school, gym and casual business meetings.

If you too find yourself nostalgic about your pregnancy comfy clothes, just know that Ingrid & Isabel are still there for you. Even if you’re not expecting. Go ahead. Treat yourself to some clothes that love you back. Your skinny jeans might get a little jealous, but do they feel this good when you’re rolling around on the floor with a four month old? Yeah.  I think not!

33 weeks pregnant: Keeping track with the Mommy Measure

mommymeasureLook, I’m not about to tell you just how big my belly circumference is at this point (trust me… its big. Scroll down for pics) but I can check any time I want, and measure the fundal height on my own as well… with the Mommy Measure that I recently received as a sample.

What a clever record-keeper the Mommy Measure is! This simple measuring tape provides space to record notes about your pregnancy… like a mini-journal that keeps track of time via your measurements. More than journaling (“16 weeks: felt some kicking!”) you can use the measure with your bigger kids: they measure my belly (yeah… fun for them) and then we compare the circumference with other “normal” things. Which is bigger? Mommy’s belly or the height of the couch? (Like I said, fun for them.)

And what a simple keepsake. The tape can be cut and pasted into a scrapbook, or stored in a treasure box for years to come. The Mommy Measure comes with a marker designed to write on vinyl as well as heart stickers to place at special milestones.

33 Weeks Pregnant: What I’m not wearing, but wish I was

More of Me Maternity has a fantastic website. She combines the beauty of her clothing with a zine, making it a pleasure to hop on over to check out the site. And then you’re hit with the gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous, maternity clothing.

In the Spring/Summer Gallery at More of Me Maternity, you’ll find everything you need to look smashing at your next big event, be it a wedding, reunion, or other special evening out. The designs are hot and comfortable, just what a stylin’ pregnant woman is looking for.

I received a Take it to the Maxi Dress as a sample and was so very excited to wear it on my anniversary next month. In fact, I love the dress so much that I was ready to plan other “events” for the huz and me just for an excuse to dress up in my Maxi dress. Sadly, the dress is too big. Way too big. Now, you all know I’m pretty petite (even with my beach ball belly.) But the size small dress (for reference, at Gap and ON, I’m fitting mostly small, some extra small right now) jsut doesn’t fit. Especially in the booby area (where this time around I’m still waiting to fill up the nursing bras). The More of Me Maternity designer tells me that she hasn’t heard the dresses are too big for most, but that most customers my size would be wearing an XS, and not a S. So if you adore the dress like I do (because it is gorgeous and I haven’t seen anything to compare in the stores) be sure to pay special attention to the sizing. Also, check out the image of the model, you’ll see just how long the dress is. For someone short like me, it would need to be shortened. But the dress was designed to be long (think bridesmaid) to cover up all the way through the ankles.

Of course, there are other dresses on the More of Me site that aren’t geared to wear so long. I love the look of the L.B.M.o.M.D. Maybe that’s the dress I should wear (in a size XS) for my anniversary. Hmmm… fingers go a-clickin’.  Use code OVB for 10% off your purchase.

Maternity at Target… all the basics plus some style

targetMy first pregnancies I tried to shop at Target for maternity clothes. Attempted it because I wanted to save money. But what I found was that the clothing was huge, no matter how pregnant I was, not too impressively made, and there wasn’t much style.

So when Target offered to send a sample of their Liz Lange  line, I was interested in checking it out, but not exactly jumping with excitement. But Target surprised me this time. Their colllection fits better than the past. Their sizing is still a bit generous (as are most of the Target lines, be it non-maternity or maternity) but I’ve been able to wear their tops this time around. And with compliments. That’s where the style comes in.  The top looks cute on and its comfortable. They also sent a dress which is too long for me, but will be fine with a little hemming. Very flowy–definitely the hot look of the summer.

As for the wear, as I mentioned, its comfortable and basic. I’ve worn the top several times and its been through the wash: I don’t expect the clothing to last through several pregnancies, in fact I’ve had to clip several loose threads already. But, then, its Target and the price is right for wear-it-for-a-season pieces: perfect for maternity.

So, looking good in my new sample top, I ventured over to the Target today that recently opened in Lionville, PA. Their maternity section, while not huge, definitely surprised me in terms of style this time around. The materials are softer and lighter and the look is much more “hip” than the bulky, boxy tops I recall from years ago. I was impressed by the prints and cuts and very tempted to try on a few tops and a dress or two… had my 3 year old not been about to run off to the toys section.

My advice: Head over to Target for Maternity shopping with a little time (and peace and quiet) to try things on. You’ll love the prices and comfort and likely be surprised by the stylish flair.

Glow Chic: Maternity Lingerie

glow-chicYou need to know that I am not the night-gown type. Most nights, much to the huz’ disappointment, I’d be happy wearing boxers and an old frat-party t-shirt.

So, I recieved a sexy little number from Whoa Mamma recently and wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. I mean, I have a few teddies and things from my wedding/lingerie shower way back, but the frequency with which I put them on… lets just say its flatlining. Ahem. You can imagine the surprise for the huz when I wore this Chemise and Lace Skirted Panty set from Whoa Mamma’s Glow Chic line. Now don’t get too imaginative… I’m 30 weeks pregnant.

Anyhow, the nighty set is absolutely perfect for these hot summer nights. And it manages to make my big body (seriously, the huz keeps glancing over saying “whoa, you are big”) look a little bit sexy (which makes a 30-week pregnant mama of 2.8 feel pretty good.)  The wash is fantastic: no pilling, no shrinkage. And the fit is rather loose and forgiving.

Target just started selling Glow Chic, and you can find a variety of their line on Target’s site. To kick off Glow Chic’s introduction at Target, they’re offering 10% off your purchase: click here to get your coupon.
